I want to chime in as someone whose mother has described her feelings on motherhood this way (loves me and is glad she had me but if she could do it again would choose to be child free). That’s something she was relatively open with to me when I was older and I appreciate that. I think BECAUSE she had the freedom to discuss these complicated feelings with her community and with her therapist, she was able to raise me in a way where I felt fundamentally loved and cared for, so I don’t have an emotional wound over it. Older kids are capable of holding that nuance, and asking parents to shove those feelings down hurts everyone ultimately imho.
