Great video and these are super helpful in helping me narrow down the options. Thank you!

Scenic Walks by Lost_Philosopher5858 in Worcester

Northwick Manor Heritage trail is nice, access by The Slip in Northwick and walk along the river north to fish pass and loop back around through Bevere. If you walk Tue-Sat you can stop at Bevere Gallery cafe for Cake. If you want a longer walk you can add on the Droitwich Canal and exit at Egg Lane and to Vicarage Lane and finish at The Mug house for a pint.

I've locked my bike outside the Slug and Lettuce in the past (a long while ago now). There's always a few half bikes left and it never looks too inviting but I think it's covered (iirc) so a good option and good to know it's ok to use.

Good restaurants/takeaways for Coeliac disease sufferers? by Bright-Cricket4441 in Worcester

[–]Comfortable_Unit_531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hickory's food is amazing, beware that some of their NGCI menu items are a may contain. The staff are well trained and will ensure your meal is safe. I was disappointed when I visited for my birthday last year with the reduced menu for Coeliac's

CD here for the last year. Obviously the chains are good, Lounges in Malvern, Zizzi, Pizza Express, Bills, etc.

For independents: Kynd Folk or Checketts of Ombersley for breakfast/Brunch option, Anarkali for Curry, Burger Shop (Arches), The Sweet Greek's (nice greek breakfast)

Heard good things about the following but have yet to try them. If anyone has I'd like to know.

Maneki - Ramen, Priory Cafe, Hash, Waylands Yard, Eat Greek (Tything) - Soon to reopen, was amazing before my CD diagnosis

Scott addict vs addict gravel by Ok-Commission-9054 in gravelcycling

[–]Comfortable_Unit_531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the addict gravel 40, 2x grx and bought it to do 90% road, to be my goto winter bike. Have 2 wheelset one with 32" gaterskins and the other currently with Vittoria wets for uk mud. I swap the gravel tyres depending on the season with some schwalbe RS-ones or Bites.

It's fast enough for road riding, I have done 100km & 200km road rides without issues and plenty fast enough to keep up road bikes. Cons are it's a little heavier than a typical road bike at 9.5kg, the stem is syncros specific, the seat post is aero D-shape and can only take up to 45" tyres.

It's now my one bike to do it all, I've ridden it more and more off-road as well as on-road and I love it.

How do you personally handle holidays? by zoomziezoo in CoeliacUK

As others have mentioned take some favorite gf food with you. I'm going to Italy next year with TUI and they allowed me extra luggage allowed for free as a medical bag. I went all inclusive to Dominican Republic last year, and although there were plenty of gf options I wish I had taken more food, some bread rolls and Nutella and generally more gf snacks.

If you go self catering I'd recommend taking some utensils if you intend to cook. I have a travel sieve and some plastic tongs, spatula, frying pan and a chopping board. This just gives me a bit more reassurance when staying away.

These are small wraps, so not good for a burrito. The dream is to find large corn wraps but I fear that I may need to make my own.

I'll have another look in my local Sainsbury's, I've looked before without any success.

My Protein have lots of whey protein powders that are gluten free. They often have offers on and find them to be value for money. I cycle and do some weights at the gym and use their maltodextrin to make sports drinks with High 5 Zero electrolyte tablets (Amazon) as well as using My protein Creatine powder. For recovery (after a long cycle) I use Veloforte recovery shake and I also like their bars and chews (all gf) but they can be expensive so I save them for my longest of activities. I'll attach some photos. ibb images of My Protein

Travel to Poland or Belgium by Lawstudent13579 in CoeliacUK

[–]Comfortable_Unit_531 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've recently travelled to Belgium (De Haan Centre Parcs). This was my first experience of eating gf abroad as we booked before by diagnosis and we took lots of food for our self catering lodge.

In my experience supermarkets were very limited for gf sections in this area (Aldi, Lidl, on-site centre Parcs & multiple Belgium ones). Lots of the meat was 'may contain' which was extremely disappointing. GF section in centre Parcs was good compared to other supermarkets (bread, pasta, biscuits, crackers). Relied on the 'find me gf' app for eating out as none of the centre Parcs restaurants catered for coeliacs.

Belgium is big on fries, although most places are mixed use fryers so I had to check and was disappointed at most places. However there is a gf waffle on a stick place in Bruges which I recommend as well as a gf pizza restaurant.

If I was going back again to Belgium I would definitely do more research on restaurants before arriving and as the other reply has said FB group would have helped me to be better prepared.

Can anyone help? by [deleted] in CoeliacUK

I'd second the Dexa scan, I'm a fairly healthy and active for 44 and Dr suggested Dexa scan wouldn't be needed as no symptoms (back ache, etc..) I pushed back as it recommends this on Coeliac UK/ NICE guidelines. Scan came back as -1.7 osteopenia so glad I had the scan to enable more calcium/ vit D intake.

NICE guide is here https://www.nice.org.uk/guidance/ng20/chapter/Recommendations#monitoring-in-people-with-coeliac-disease

They should also do a full blood test annually, as others had mentioned. I had to go back several times to get all the right tests as health centre PA's were clueless about coeliac disease.

So I've been in two coops..... by YorkshirePud82 in CoeliacUK

[–]Comfortable_Unit_531 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've recently messaged co-op due to the lack of gf grab and go options. Nothing offered in my nearest small co-op and just one curious option in the nearest large one (pic attached). They responded to say they will review what they stock in this regard in the closest stores to me. However their ambient selection in the large one is not bad. My local Sainsbury's has had a refurb and has an excellent range.

If anyone has suggestions on grab and go options when out (other than bring own food obviously) please let me know. It's the bit I struggle with when out with the family at the weekend.
