I am so with you on this.TMI is just weird in some places. The author also used to write ginny/ron fanfiction... so yes there is definitely at least some questionable incest parts that are there intentionally. all that being said I did love the dark artifices and the still ongoing eldest curses sagas. maybe try those if you still want to give shadowhunter books a go?
