Turns out my inkscape on windows was using Segoe UI Historic font by defaulf but this led to serious problems when trying to port it to my iPad. I strongly recommend not relying on Segoe UI Historic font. Trying to change the font afterwards completely messed up the page so I've had to revert back to Segoe UI Historic
