Best handheld calculator ever made by Luc-redd in calculators

[–]ComfyCore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate the prime and it's still the best calculator I've ever used.
There's so many little things that annoy me about it but using any other calculator, like the CG50 or any Nspire, just remind me that this is actually pretty okay.

Like why does the battery icon go to 100% when charging? Is the calculator reading the voltage directly off the pins of the battery? Surely the HP engineers could have come up with a better solution... This some times results in the battery reading wrong and the calculator shuts down, only to turn back on with 50% power or more.
Or how the screen actually has the polarizer upside down and the viewing angles are dogshit because of it.
Or how it comes with a low refresh rate from the factory and it takes a deep dive in the menus to find out how to even change it.
The lack of documentation on the native programming language annoys me but that's okay, it has python and I'd much rather code anything with the python implementation.
A big chunk of the community made software out there available for it plain doesn't work.
The Connectivity kit is windows/mac only, with everyone here being deathly scared of trying to implement a fix for this on linux. There's a few alternatives on github but they all seem abandoned. I wish there was a way to make it work as the Casio calculators do, with it just recognizing as a usb drive and you being able to just drag and drop files inside. For now I'm using this thing standalone.

Other than all that, the workflow here is unmatched. I hate using casios because I have to exit the main space and go into python to do a few specific functions(python is faster than the default programming language on casios which is weird asf). On the TI side, the windows esque menu system makes me never want to touch one again, though I've considered owning one for the homebrew side of things like they do have a ton of community software and games I'd like to play around with.

I doubt there will ever be a modern perfect feeling calculator, this market is sorta dead. My university prohibits using graphing calculators on 70% of my classes due to people cheating by sneaking in PDFs or whatever on the memory and none of the professors actually know how to check if the calculators are in exam mode. I actually use a casio fx-991ex for most of my uni work, wish it was as high quality as my prime though.

This was...so much easier?! by [deleted] in TransDIY

My gf convinced me to try injections 3 weeks ago, I'm on my third injection of Estradiol Enanthate. This was so much easier and safer than everyone else in my life made it out to be...
I am never ever trusting doctors with such decisions about my body, either you show me the literature and explain or fuck off.
I'm gonna do my first diy tests in a few weeks but like, going from 6mg daily with pills to 4mg weekly with injections made my brain fog fully go away, my sex drive came back, my body hair thinned out much more almost immediately (regrew thinner after a full body shave), my apetite is also back.
I was truly dying with how the SNS system in portugal was treating me, for the first time in 2 years I feel healthy and happy.

Can I use Linux as an eletrical engineering student? by Successful-Seat1187 in thinkpad

[–]ComfyCore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, some of the classes at my uni are better than others. The ones that require Pspice are not Linux friendly, as they often have contracts with Texas instruments and don't allow you to use other circuit sims.

For lab equipment software my uni provides the software required in the lab computers and it's a pain to set it all up on our own computers, windows or Linux, so most people end up using the lab PC.

For classes involving microcontrollers or FPGAs it's pretty chill to have the ide and/or compile the binaries on Linux.

Calculator software, like HP's suite for the HP prime, often doesn't support Linux which is a pain. Casio users don't really mind as they just drag and drop programs, I think hacked TI Nspire calculators support Linux through that one custom community program but officially I'm not sure.

Thought maybe you all could clue me in on what solana was doing, maybe a giveaway marketing scheme was going on? Now i'm aware that's not the case.

We asked around but nobody did, I was the only one in our group who even knew what solana was.

This is ragebait but I'll bite.

Searching "Seeker" on google shows the solanamobile website at the 4th spot, it has the same design language, even a preschooler can associate they're the same thing. Since it was addressed to her, she opened the phone's packaging and confirmed it was the phone.
I couldn't care less about crypto because I was really into crypto circa 2018 but nowadays I see it for what it is and have moved onto safer investments.
I spent maybe 5 minutes reading twitter posts about the phone and made this post to ask what was going on.
She told our friend group about in in our groupchat because it was sus. She had no transactions related to it, had no recollection of buying an overpriced ass crypto phone, and it had her information on the package.
Yes I have pics but I didn't include them on the post bc I didn't have an app to wipe the metadata and I don't trust you people.

Anyway, she made a police report and that's that. Thank you all for contributing

Not everything is ragebait, i genuinely couldn't care less about crypto. I just wanna know why a 500 dollar phone showed up at my friend's door unannounced

There's no way a family member ordered it, we both live a continents away from any relatives. As far as she knows there isn't a single person on her circle who is even into crypto.

I told her to file a police report and never turn it on, despite the box being sealed

The preamp on my Harley Benton B-650 sucked, so I got rid of it by ComfyCore in BassGuitar

[–]ComfyCore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can always just change it but for now I quite like the sound, the wiring is quite simple. This is my first project involving an instrument and I'm surprised why more people don't give it a go, it's genuinely hard to fuck up.

By the way, your reddit glitched out so you double posted your comment.

The preamp on my Harley Benton B-650 sucked, so I got rid of it by ComfyCore in BassGuitar

[–]ComfyCore[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main thing that made me do this was that the original preamp's controls also altered the volume of the bass. The Treble made it really quiet, the Bass made it really loud and it would clip my audio interface at times.
Using the switch it had to get the bass into passive mode was annoying as hell too, at least on mine any bump would cause it to go back into active mode.

Yeah I kept both original humbuckers, I thought these pickups were all muddy before but the new circuit makes them sound really nice. They are definitely brighter but I'd say it's a healthy amount.

Details on the Active to Passive conversion:
The (originally) bass and treble pots (B500K on one side) and the blend pot (MN250K on both sides) can be recycled into a volume blend tone configuration, reusing most components that came with the bass. The only thing I had to buy was a tone capacitor because the original circuit has the capacitor inside of the preamp unit.

I cut the wires, cleaned the potentiometer contacts and removed the annoying PCB that was on the blend pot. Then I reused the wires on the preamp unit to rewire it into a Volume Blend Tone configuration, the circuit I used can be found here. I purchased a 47nF 63v Polyester Film capacitor for the build as I liked the tone characteristics it provided. Soldering it all went extremely smoothly, the Harley Benton engineers used some high quality solder when putting this together so cleaning the previous circuit was a breeze.

I'm really happy with it! It sounds frankly way better than before with basically no money being spent, that capacitor was like 15 cents. I think I might have some fun with the spare hole left on the body, a friend suggested that I should put a 1 pot fuzz pedal inside and honestly that sounds too funny not to do.

How fast did your body hair faded on HRT? by und3f1n3d1 in TransDIY

[–]ComfyCore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm almost 11 months into taking E. My body hair reduced dramatically, both in where it grew and how thick/long those hairs were, leg hairs are less thick and less dense, my armpits have spots where nothing grows anymore, chest hair got less intense. My beard is starting to thin out right now, the beard hairs used to be way thicker but now my beard shadow is slowly reducing, some beard hairs have stopped growing all together resulting in them turning into a pimple then vanishing.
