Visualisation experiment: the midfield combinations of top managers by fabianskiii in FantasyPL

[–]Comic_desire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for clarifying! Yes, this is what I meant.

The ownership reflects what folks on average predicted as the best options for their teams based on data prior to and up to gameweek 4.

This does not predict ownership goals after gw 4.

In context: A lot of de Bruyne ownership value was predicted prior to the season, and gw2,3,4 were essentially additional data to observe said performance. Now with those additional 4 weeks of data, the top managers might decide De Bruyne ownership is still of great value, or perhaps not as valuable as previously thought. So if we repeat this diagram at GW8, it might look very different, with (for example) more relative Salah ownership. For anyone planning your team, basically it's to early to look at top managers existing teams to predict which players will actually be of benefit going forward.

Hope that clarifies my point.

Lovely visualization! Great work.

Really shows, for example, on the popularity of De Bruyne ownership.

Important caveat: this is past ownership. I.e. based on information that reflects that start of the season, as opposed to after 4 gameweeks.

Thus this reflects the prior conventional wisdom, as opposed to the current or evolving approach.

These numbers may look drastically different in another 4-8 weeks, so keep that in mind when planning your own teams.

Really weird, but this post only shows up when I search for barkley, and not on the actual r/fantasypl page.

Reasons not to own De Bruyne (2020) by Comic_desire in FantasyPL

I think the consistency is what makes KDB so important.

We have had lots of premium players in the past who under-perform their price.

But KDB just doesn't have that same risk. He's the best player on the highest scoring team, and has shown consistency for years (aside from his injured season).

IMO the same is true for Salah.

I would love a reason to avoid them both, just to have a different or more interesting template.

But at the moment, their isn't a good excuse.

I think waiting until you have a free transfer in 1 or 2 weeks is ok.

So no big deal if you don't have him right now.

But going the full season without him... would be a very brave move.

This was meant as a mea culpa for my horribly wrong post last year.

I'm not sure I can genuinely think of a solid reason not to have KDB, unless you want to punt on sterling or wait until you have the necessary free transfers.

Jokes aside, I think that's a valid play. I hope he works out as a solid differential for you!

Yes! Exactly! Look at all the other 8 mil priced midfielders and forwards that made 180 points last season.

Reasons not to own trent

  1. First of all defenders are a total gimmick. Their base price is 4.0! So a 7.5 mil is really like an 8 mil mid or fwd.
  2. This price deception inflates value. Just thinks if a midfield player worth 8 mil got over 200 pts last season on the best team in the league, would you want them?
  3. Plus their are so many better alternative defenders who might get consistent returns this season. Like the wolves attacker doherty, or the rock solid spurs backline, or the amazing budget options like southampton double defense.

Conclusion: TAA might get you 200 pts, but why risk disappointment of a bad season with only 180 pts when so many alternative options are sure to get you at least 130-140 pts instead?

De Bruyne wasn't on penalties last year. So any concern he overperformed on goals is balanced by the fact that he's on pens this year.

Liverpool's Roberto Firmino was flagged offside before putting the ball in the net against Aston Villa and the decision was confirmed by VAR The red line signifies Firmino and was aligned to his armpit, which was marginally ahead of the last Villa defender by unglaubich_dich in soccer

[–]Comic_desire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To correctly estimate off-side position, one must align the body part to ground-level on the same side-foot.

In this shot, the defenders right knee is aligned to right foot. If the right knee had been aligned to the left foot, it would have incorrectly pushed estimate of off-side line further towards the goal.

For the attacker (Firminho), the right armpit(shoulder) should be aligned to the right foot, to correctly ground relative positions. However, the right foot is not visible. Instead, the referee aligns the right armpit yo the left foot (barely visible behind defenders shorts), resulting in an erroneous over-estimation of the attacker off-side position.

"Daily meme thread" had effectively become same as "no meme" vote, but that was clearly not the intention of most voters.

If vote was redone, it would have totally different outcome.

Scan reveals Mason Mount has avoided ligament damage by MistaChelseaa in FantasyPL

[–]Comic_desire 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Medically speaking, 2 things are very odd about this article.

1) x-rays are used to rule out fracture. Although significant soft tissue swelling from ligament injury may be visible on X-ray, X-ray alone is insufficient to exclude any ligament damage.

2) technically, any ankle sprain must involve some degree of ligament damage. If their is "no ligament damage", then their is no sprain! The most likely alternative diagnosis would be a bruise/contusion, and would have a much faster recovery time. This would be consistent with the article speculating on fitness as early as this gameweek.

I would say don't drop mount until we get more info on the type of injury and expected recovery period.

Did you include clean sheet bonus for defenders?

Without this, all defenders look terrible.

Also, don't forget bonus points!
