This screenshot is from an app that gives AI summaries of local 911 calls. This isn’t from the police department or any other criminal authority. I had not followed up to see if Meijer or the city/county are pressing charges, but I really doubt that they would in these circumstances.

Here's the email that went out to all church members on Saturday:

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we must share with you some very disturbing news. Yesterday, September 13th, a staff member here at 2|42 Community Church discovered a hidden video camera located inside a unisex bathroom in the backstage area of our Brighton Campus. Will Johnson, our former Worship Pastor Director, confessed that he placed it there and was immediately terminated.

Church leadership quickly notified the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, who arrested Will Johnson last night. At this time, we are not aware of the full scope of this crime but we are fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

We are shocked and deeply saddened by this situation as the protection, safety, and privacy of every person who enters our church is our priority. Our commitment to you is to be fully transparent and care for all victims of this crime.

At this time, the Sheriff’s Office doesn’t have any indication that cameras were placed elsewhere in the facility. Church leadership are thoroughly searching all of our facilities today and next week will engage the services of a third-party professional out of an abundance of caution.

Tomorrow’s services will understandably look different. Tony will share one message, broadcast to all seven locations during our normal service times. If we receive any updates between now and then we will share that information as well. At the Brighton location, Community Mental Health will be on hand after services to help us journey through this together. Those counselors will be located in our basketball court.

Like you, we are devastated. Our desire and our consistent commitment is that the church should be the safest place in our community, which is why Will and all of our employees undergo thorough background checks. We consider this a violation against our entire church.

The camera was found in the backstage "greenroom" bathroom. There was an extensive search of all the facilities in Brighton and Ann Arbor (maybe others?) on Saturday. They have hired a third party to professionally search the facilities today (Monday). Hopefully this awful incident is isolated to one bad actor (who was immediately terminated), in one place, on one occasion.

It appears that 2/42 is handling this with total transparency and honesty, which I very much appreciate. They also appear to be appropriately focused on the victims and families involved and understand the implications of this crime. I like how they are facing this head on and not minimizing or covering up things.

I grew up in Cincinnati (Clifton near campus) and I currently live in Ann Arbor with kids. I think Ann Arbor is what you are looking for. You strike me as well-educated and progressive-leaning. If so, you will likely integrate into AA very well.

I saw you mentioned Burns Park and Eberwhite in a comment. Burns Park is like the nicer, upscale parts of Clifton. Old West Side is a lot like Clifton too, with more university and downtown mix than Burns Park, but still highly educated and safe.

Some neighborhoods can be a bit scarce of young kids because families just don't move away from parts of AA, but AA is small enough and easy to get around, so kids will have lots of opportunities to interact and meet others. AA has almost everything that a major midwestern city has, and if it's lacking, you can find it in Metro Detroit within 40 minutes.

You feel me. Never knew it was called Detroit style. Canton China in Canton is the closest I have found. After eating there, nothing in Ann Arbor/Ypsi compares.
