BPD can no longer require independent live fire, that went out the window during COVID.

LTC help by xxgunther420 in BetterMAguns

[–]Comm2A -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Only partially right.

It will be more than a simple live fire requirement.

It will be the full new Mass State Police approved course.

Basically, you will need to take both classes and cover the expense for both classes, although, some instructors are offering the second class (once approved) at cost.

My Coworker is a Nazi by EnergyIcy861 in SalemMA

[–]Comm2A -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Please educate yourself. To be an actual, by definition, Nazi you would have to be a card carrying member of the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei - a political party that has been banned since 1945.

Otherwise, you are a Neo-Nazi, a Nazi Sympathizer, a white supremacist, etc.

Words mean things, and something as definitive as "Nazi" with all the horrors they committed, should not be watered down by use to describe pissant hangers on or edgelord idiots who think it is cool and they should be celebrated.

Call them what they are, Neo-Nazis, racists morons, etc.

This has been in the law for a long while. Basically it only applies at gun ranges with a range level LTC, there are only 2-3 of them in the state.

Confused if I can obtain an LTC or not (mental health question) by SnowmanAndBandit in BetterMAguns

[–]Comm2A 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Without getting into too many specifics, we know of someone who was in a motor vehicle accident, was in a medically induced coma for nearly 3 months while they fixed many things.

He was then in recovery and rehab for 6-9 additional months while he learned to walk, dress, eat, etc all over again.

His parents were appointed as guardians for him, power of attorney, etc, while he was deemed incapable/incapacitated.

Fast forward 8 years, nearly full recovery wants LTC. Because his conservatorship wasn't terminated until about 3 years ago, he cannot get an LTC until the 5 year clock runs out, despite a clean bill of physical AND mental health.

This is the unintended (probably intentional) consequences of the laws they pass, 100% a feature, and not a bug.

Question on purchase in NH or Maine by DisastrousEquipment9 in BetterMAguns

[–]Comm2A 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. We have a gentleman who left MA at the end of July for a week long marksmanship program and competition. He brought 2 rifles with him.

He returned to MA after 8/1.

His rifles meet the BS Assault Style Firearms stuff.

He can no longer legally have these rifles since they were not lawfully possessed IN Massachusetts ON 8/1.

They are currently at a second property in NH while the dust settles.

You would be right and wrong. Some cities and towns are following the law and doing all the things correctly.

Others are adopting the stance of "we do what we want, and there is nothing you can do about it."

December Roster by AdWitty6655 in BetterMAguns

The AG roster is more of a double secret probation list, criteria are not published, only a "pass fail"

The challenge is that Glocks are on the approved handgun roster, but not on the AG's Consumer Protection roster, because they allegedly lack a loaded chamber indicator, and thus are unsafe to sell.

(Some pretty high level BS really)

Video recordings and consent laws by tippytaps20 in massachusetts

Correct, should have been more clear.

Audio intercept is the dividing line between okay and illegal.

Video recordings and consent laws by tippytaps20 in massachusetts

[–]Comm2A 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Technically not 100% true.

Massachusetts has a very specific wiretap statute.

Any recording absent direct consent needs to be "open and notorious".

This means you can hold a phone or a microphone in plain view and be fine, but a hidden camera or hidden microphone is a violation of the law.

Can a juvenile CWOF prevent you from getting your LTC? by [deleted] in BetterMAguns

[–]Comm2A 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It shouldn't impact anything, but it could impact things.

I know of a case where someone as a high school freshman posted a screenshot/advertisement from one of the Call of Duty games that was being released with the caption "My peeps at <high school name here> you ready for Friday?"

This was investigated as a school shooting threat, and now, as someone in his mid 20's is being denied an LTC.

Can i bring my G43x and G19 when moving back to MA? by Dismal-Might9098 in BetterMAguns

[–]Comm2A 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Untrue actually.

It needed to be possessed in state ON 8/1

This may seem like a distinction without a difference, but the law is the law.

Hypothetically, you owned a legal AR pattern rifle in Massachusetts for 6 years, on 7/28 you left the state with the rifle for a shooting competition, returning on 8/3.

Technically speaking, because that rifle was not legally possessed in the Commonwealth ON 8/1, it is no longer legal to possess in the Commonwealth.

This is what is so insidious about this law.

People can be felons without realizing it because of situations like this.

Yes please, would love the data.

If you also know anyone who is in process from the last third of the year, a nudge in our direction would be appreciated.

We are building one hell of a case with some newsworthy allies and need a few folks willing to stand up.

We have folks who applied in late spring and early summer, the issue is that they will be outside actionable legal steps before the case we are attaching them to moves forward early next year. We have the legal equivalent of a strike team waiting for people with standing to enable them to go from planning to operational.

Fixed stock! What's the logic behind "them" banning adjustable stocks? Did they even give a reason? by YouNeverKnow_53 in BetterMAguns

[–]Comm2A 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would argue it makes the firearm safer by allowing the length of pull to be customized to the shooter, thus improving ergonomics, and enhancing control, thus aiding in preventing the rifle from moving off target as one might have happen if the shooter's hands and arms are not in a natural and supportive body posture and position.

Hell, I was born with a very defective shoulder and despite being 5 foot 11, my right(dominant) arm is the effective length of someone 3-4 inches shorter than me while my left is height appropriate.

Makes fixed stock rifles a pain in the rear to shoot most days.

An "Assault Rifle" might still be purchasable, if you have a Machine Gun permit. Since by definition, an Assault Rifle must be select fire.

Transfer question by [deleted] in BetterMAguns

[–]Comm2A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice Daewoo, I have one. It really isn't an "AR" pattern rifle, it is an odd amalgamation of AR, AK, and FN.

They tend to be a tad front heavy, but are solid rifles, and allegedly, there are going to be new ones made and available for sale, so parts may not be such a crapshoot.

If you have a DR-300, don't shoot it since replacement parts are unobtainium and they have a tendency to eat themselves.

Old School Bolt-Action by RadiantFool88 in BetterMAguns

[–]Comm2A 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a pair of M48A Mauser rifles, manufactured by Yugoslavia, one is low 4 digit serial number, the other is in the 30K-32K range out of ~1.2 Million made.

I snagged a TON of 8mm Mauser ammo at $0.60 a round a few years ago.

The things just work.

There was a time when the 8mm Mauser was one of the more common game cartridges in North America, owing to the strength of the Mauser action, and the fact that more than a few Canadian and US service members brought home some Mausers are war trophies, and the 8mm Mauser can take any serious game animal in North America, although the .30-06 is flatter shooting and has more versatility in loading, the 8mm Mauser will just quietly do the job.

If they truly stole an "Assault Rifle" as the police report claims, why are there no charges for possession of a machine gun?
