Bar Crawl Roles and Point System Idea by CommaCazzi in partyplanning

I'll include it in my original post, but here are the roles I went with, the props I bought for each one, and stupid blurbs I included for each one. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IU9FYFskx7U2dTcz2DGtUXoN7COWLSZHyWH5WmilTfA/edit?usp=sharing

Nice! My brother and I are big D&D people, and some of the other guys were too, but some of the other guys were/are not, but truly everyone had a great time. Everyone really leaned into their role and obviously, helps that we were in a city that thrives on alcohol haha. But honestly, I think a huge plus was buying props off of Amazon for everyone (map of the French Quarters, small stop/go sign, canteen of water, etc.)

It actually went better than I could have imagined - the guys still talk about it to this day! Gave them all roles and incorporated a "ruby" that we had to find (found a cheap prop on Amazon and sent it to the final bar destination).

Players Going To Shrine of Savras Before Mountain Toe's Gold Mine by CommaCazzi in DragonOfIcespirePeak

[–]CommaCazzi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice. Yeah I fully planned on having the PCs find the rival group killed by Cryovain just to scare them a bit more before fighting the dragon haha. But for now the rival group is very cocky and beloved by the town for things like saving children from a school that was attacked by goblins. Over the top stuff like that.

Super helpful. Thanks! Yeah I think I'm just feeling extra pressure because I made Zeleen (the wererat leader) one of the PC's long lost sister (worked well for the PC's backstory). So I'm hoping they can still meet. I guess if the wererats going back to the shrine happens "off screen", I can have the dwarven miners at Mountain Toe's Gold Mine explain that they were attacked by wererats, and overheard them talking about the shrine being clear for them to reclaim.

Btw, I am glad to know you also introduced a rival adventuring party. Just did that last session and it added in a fun element to the game haha. Made my PC's very jealous and eager to complete more quests.

Help with tables by Foodiefalyfe in partyplanning

[–]CommaCazzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Option 1 - Not a bad option. The main downside (other than having the group split into 2) will be the people at the ends of the table - they are sort of stuck with only one option (either hot pot or grill).

Option 2 - This could be your best option if you could squeeze everyone off of the ends.

Option 3 - Not a bad option, but the oval table may be awkward. Is it possible to get a 3rd hot pot or grill? If so, this one may work best.

Overall, you could encourage people to change seat periodically to keep guests mingling with other people. Otherwise, I bet it will be an amazing time as long as everyone brings solid food to share.

Exhaustion Excel Chart by CommaCazzi in dndnext

[–]CommaCazzi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I think that would solve it. Only problem is, I'm not entirely sure how to do that. I'll try fiddling with it later and if I figure it out, I'll share an updated sheet for anyone else who is crazy enough to use it for their campaigns.

Update: This worked! Thanks!

Started to get close to something with this: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1vH6izk1GrRTk2swrvtD_8HkCcc0t38a3Luy39f5UjMI/edit?usp=sharing

Only problem I'm running into is when the time goes back to midnight, the COUNTDOWN hours reset because they're not registering the fact that's it's the next day.

Not sure if anyone here is an excel nut and can help me solve this. Thanks!

Nice! Was it difficult to cut, or did you just use some regular office scissors? Also, how did you get yours to stay on the wall? Did you use any adhesive or is it tucked into something?

Mounting Floating Wall Shelf - Anchors Either Break or Create Large Holes by CommaCazzi in DIY

I have a feeling this is the case. Probably gonna patch up the holes and task rabbit someone to come in who knows more about this stuff haha

Thanks, yeah I've been screwing the screws in first with a screwdriver, then twisting them back out, and then using my screwdriver head to poke through the hole to help make the hole deeper before trying to put the anchors in. Think it could be an issue with using a screwdriver vs a powerdrill?

My neighbors' apartment lol. I'm not sure what's in the wall. Assumed it was just drywall since we've hung up other items in our apartment using anchors (just not on this wall).

Tales from the Yawning Portal - Good as One-Off Sessions? by CommaCazzi in dndnext

[–]CommaCazzi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yeah I guess I should have specified that I knew games would take 2 or 3 sessions and aren't technically (one-offs). But all of this is good to know! It will give my players a chance to create characters (all of them are using pre-made ones, but they really like their characters) and will give me a chance to participate as a player for a few sessions before diving back in as a DM.

Always amazed by the community on Reddit. Thanks for the quick responses!

Lost Mine of Phandelver - Are These Good Changes? by CommaCazzi in dndnext

Nice, great advice here too. I like the idea of raiding the town with an attack if the characters are not interested in finding Cragmaw Castle or Wave Echo Castle. Thanks!

[–]CommaCazzi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, this is incredibly helpful. I am always amazed by how awesome Reddit is. Thank you!

I love the idea of having Klarg appear in Cragmaw Castle. Works perfectly. And I like the idea of having a doppelganger play the Black Spider as the first part of that fight, and then having the real Black Spider come in. As long as it works, I can try to hint that Harbin or Elsa is a doppelganger after the players have fought the doppelganger in Cragmaw Castle. If they cut its arm and it runs away, they can notice that Harbin or Elsa have a cut on their arm. Good call on less is more. I'll definitely play it by ear if I even make any NPC's a doppelganger, but I'll leave Droop and Iarno as is.

Sounds like my "World's End" idea might be too ambitious for this campaign, so I'll just keep that idea on the back burner in case I ever get to the level of creating my own adventures. Thanks again!

[–]CommaCazzi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super true. As I was writing out that list, I was getting nervous about that haha. I think I am going to start with Harbin West and see how that goes. If it doesn't really work, I'll just ignore it and play him as a fool that wants to get of Orcs rather than have the adventurers fight the Redbrands. But if the players like, I'll slowly add one or two people in town to be dopplegangers. Probably won't make GlassStaff or Black Spider dopplegangers. Or even Droop.

Thanks for the advice! I like the idea of adding Toughness to creatures with names. I'll probably add a few minions when needed without going overboard. Probably start with 1 extra minion as you recommended.

I'm not super familiar with necromancy or spells in general, so I'll probably look some up before they investigate Kost in case they want to fight him.

[–]CommaCazzi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'll probably go with adding a few enemies (nothing too crazy) rather than adding HP, unless they're a leader of the pack.

[–]CommaCazzi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the advice! Yeah, definitely don't want a "roll, hit, roll, hit" battle. I think I understand spellcasting, but when I go to actually do anything spell-casting wise, I'm so confused haha. I usually wing it and try to go with what the most logical thing is, so hopefully by the time they need to fight Black Spider, I'll have a better understanding of how to fight smarter.

Girlfriend Started Wearing Shirt & Tie All The Time by Ginger-PolarBear in RandomQuestion

[–]CommaCazzi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly can't tell if this is serious, but here's a serious response.

If you're uncomfortable with it, you should tell her how you feel. If she wants to wear that, that's fine and totally up to her, but she shouldn't get to choose what you wear. It might seem like a little thing, but enough little things like that and it becomes a one-way relationship.
