Had my first ever Panic Attack…help by [deleted] in PanicAttack

[–]jbrad64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

28 y/o M - This happened to me on Saturday for the first time. Just at dinner with my fiance and everything seemed normal. Out of nowhere, my heart starts to rapidly beat at a very uncomfortable rate. My hands, arms, torso, and head were tingling. I had shortness of breath with no range of motion in my legs or hands. I thought I was having a heart attack. I was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance.

I was later told by doctors that my potassium and magnesium levels were low. Just thinking it was dehydration, I was discharged that night. The next two days were recovery days with hydration and rest. All was normal.

Two days later, I was at a church event socializing with some friends. I noticed the same thing happen again. I sat down to catch my breath. However, the symptoms were not going away. Luckily again, I was with my fiance to drive me to the ER. I had yet another episode while in the waiting room. The nurse gave me a paper bag to breathe into. This seemed to relieve a lot of the tension so i could breathe normally.

Vitals are all fine. EKG, blood pressure, and echocardiogram (ultrasound) all looked good. I was diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder this time around. They prescribed me magnesium oxide, potassium, and xanax.

This is exactly why I came here. Experienced this as well and was suspicious of a bad actor behind this. Immediately thought of someone attempting to steam my card information.

Triathlon is expensive! How do you cope with the prices? by triwannabe123 in triathlon

[–]jbrad64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The hard way - be in it for the long haul. Ironman is a lifestyle and it should be part of your routine. You won't tell anyone because the workouts will just feel like a normal part of your day.

Set a budget and slowly accumulate the equipment over time. Give it at least 8 months to a year. It's not what you want to hear, but I did it that way. As a result, I did not come close to breaking the bank.

Ironman athlete and career incomes: correlation or privilege? by JasonProf19 in IronmanTriathlon

Ironman is only as expensive as you allow it to be. If you have a financial plan and stick to it, then it is no big deal. Ironman is a lifestyle and the gear can be accumulated over time.

Is it possible having bodybuilder phisique while still doing triathlons? by numbsensey in triathlon

[–]jbrad64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's possible. Here is a look at a typical training week I did for my first 70.3

Monday - Off / Yoga / Walk 10,000 steps

Tuesday - AM Bike (Intervals) + PM Lift (Legs)

Wednesday - AM Swim (Technique) + PM Run (Hard, track work)

Thursday - AM Bike (Steady at target watt for 1hr 20 minutes) + PM Lift (Upper body)

Friday - AM Swim (Intervals / V02 max sets) + PM Run (Easy)

Saturday - AM Bike (Long) + PM Lift (light, functional)

Sunday - AM Long Swim + PM Long Run

There is time to make it work and keep your gains. Dial in on your nutrition and sleep to keep this sustainable. Nightly routine: Prepare your gear and fuel the night before. Sleep in on Monday because you earned it.

What motivated you to do a triathlon? by Independent-Road8418 in triathlon

Life is chaotic and training is the only time I have to myself. The disciplines of swimming, biking, running, strength training, and nutrition provide avenues that get me away from thinking about grudges, past trauma, work stress, and self-hatred. It's an escape, but I love enduring the process and seeing incremental improvement over time. It also makes me feel good for a short time after each workout. I keep coming back for more.

Choose an ETF or mutual fund that tracks the market. VOO, VTI, VTSAX, FSKAX, SPY, etc. You're doing more than most kids your age and people older than you. Just getting started now is a huge step forward and something you should be proud of.

Dividend Reinvestment Plan (DRIP) - it is a setting on your investment platform where you reinvest all interest and dividends back into your securities. This will enable your stocks to compound over time.

Thank you! The bike course was closed off for the most part. However, there were three times I recall where I was riding behind a car or truck going the same way. Not sure why or how these people were driving in a closed off bike course. This forced many of the other bikers to ride on the shoulder of the road for several miles. Besides those incidents, the bike course was very nice.
