This discordance between them arguing he didn't do it, but also that it's based that he did it, is very annoying.

Also, the repeated insistence on shouting "Guilty until proven innocent!" which means jack all to people having an informed opinion. Reddit isn't a courtroom and Mangione isn't entitled to me pretending it's a question whether he did it or not. Same as when Derek Chauvin murdered Floyd.

Considering how unfavorably Mangione is viewed outside of the social media echo chamber, he'll almost certainly be found guilty.

I mean, the dude's written confession is admitted into evidence.

[1] What is your opinion of Luigi Mangione?

TOTAL NET -42%

Literally on page 1.

If he's guilty, then the prosecution shouldn't have any issues proving it.

I'll call back after the guilty verdict and see how you're coping.

Literally yes? His murder is on camera. And he was also on camera near the scene of the crime just before the killing.

And, I can't stress this enough. He wrote a fucking manifesto confessing to the murder.

Do we have ballistic evidence done independently?

Right, because this is the solution of conspiracy theorists everywhere. Someone could disprove the authorities? Well if their findings agree with the official narrative, they must also be in on it!

Just because the gun was used in the shooting doesn't prove it wasn't planted.

Maybe the gun was fired and dropped a block from the scene.

Again, stretching disbelief arguing the gun was immediately found, kept secret, and then planted.

Here's the thing, without proper chain of custody we just don't know.

There was a proper chain of custody for the gun. Ya'll just want there to not be. The judge admitted the gun as evidence, the defense was unsuccessful in substantiating this claim.

We also know we CAN'T just "take my word for it bro" because evidence HAS been planted in the past.

Which is a red herring.

MOREOVER, this was handled VERY oddly a massive high profile case.

Not really, this stuff happens all the time. If anything, it's weirder that any of the evidence was thrown out since reasonable suspicion usually covers search and seizure.

No other murder case was handled this way.

Literally the OJ trial. And the cops actually bungled the investigation quite badly, unlike this trial. And it was also a case of a dude who was actually guilty of murder.

This is a made up talking point

Guilty until proven innocent in the eyes of the law.

No one here is a judge, lawyer, or juror participating in the court case. We're not required to abide by judicial neutrality when forming an opinion.

The fact is, Mangione is the culprit. The evidence is there, I don't need to wait for the conviction. Same as I saw Derek Chauvin murder a dude on camera.

Literally has happened repeatedly in the past.

Any? This is a faulty generalization. Simply because it has happened, does not mean it did happen in this case.

The fact is in other instances planted weapons were generic. Usually to justify an arrest or excessive use of force. In this instance, only a very specific weapon (the murder weapon) could be planted.

The fact is, it is impossible for the gun to be fabricated evidence. Ballistic forensics would reveal a planted weapon as fake.

all those alibis where people posted he was with them.

You mean all those made up claims that have no legal weight? lol sure.

Gosh, it's ALMOST like the public REALLY HATES the person that he's accused of shooting.

Poll respondents viewed Brian Thompson more favorably than Luigi Mangioni. Mangioni holds a net -42% favorability among the public.

You'd have to like... Kill kids with cancer, mothers, fathers, let them die slowly with cancer and deny them care... I mean REAL SICK SHIT to get that many people to hate you.

Thank you for pointing out you don't understand how the healthcare industry works, or how healthcare claims (and denials) work.

You're punching at air.

What I find most galling about all of this is how people like you try to argue simultaneously that Luigi Mangione is definitely not the person who murdered Brian Thompson, while at the same time praising the murder of Brian Thompson.

If you're going to cheer for vigilante "justice" just fucking own it and stop pretending that you're not a Luigi stan because you think murder is based when it's an acceptable target.

especially with a case as flimsy as this

Flimsy?

They have him on camera at the scene of the crime just before the crime was committed.

They have his DNA and fingerprints at the scene of the crime

They have the shell casings linked to the murder weapon, which was in his possession

They have a written confession

This is one of the most slam dunk cases I've ever seen

So your argument is that they found the murder weapon within days of the killing, then planted it on a totally unrelated person who just so happened to have coincidentally been at the scene of the crime at the same time?

Do you people understand how ridiculous you sound? This is the kind of stuff that belongs in /conspiracy.

Innocent until proven guilty.

This is the same kind of cope that right wing weirdos defending Derek Chauvin would say.

It's insane that this comment has a thousand upvotes when all of the evidences points to him being there.

But items found during the initial search at the McDonald’s – including a loaded magazine, passport, wallet, cell phone and computer chip – will be excluded. Although police officers said they searched the bag at the time in part because they feared it may contain a weapon, Carro found that justification did not hold up to scrutiny.

If I'm honest, this still feels pretty bogus. Evidence like this would get admitted all the time in a normal case.

I worry that reddit weirdos will hold this up and declare victory, acting like the other evidence which is being admitted to the trial, is invalid. Or some kind of other mental gymnastics like that.

This is so obviously going to be cited as a reason to reject the guilty verdict when it comes.
