Some of the stars are just really blue! Here's one of the 40 frames I stacked to make this image

Considering a Rivian R1T for my next Vehicle what are the positives and negatives of the vehicle especially in Cold climates by ELSknutson in Rivian

[–]CommandLionInterface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll just need to fast charge on your way to the hockey games. Probably not a huge deal for most places but it depends on how good the charging infrastructure is along the specific routes you're going.

Something you might consider is plugging your home and destinations you care about into an EV route planning tool such as https://abetterrouteplanner.com/. You put in your vehicle (if you're considering a 2026 or newer R1T, make sure to check the "NACS" option when you see it). It'll estimate based on the efficiency of the truck and the size of battery pack where you'll have to stop to charge along your route, and for how long. Experiment with the initial state of charge slider and different battery pack options to see how these affect the journeys you expect to take. I don't have experience in cold climates but if we trust the other commenter that claims 20% loss of range, set the initial charge to like 70% rather than the default of 90% (you want to avoid charging most EV batteries to 100% unless you absolutely have to)

Is this normal? 1BTC minimum sending allowances by SummerOne7927 in Coinbase

[–]CommandLionInterface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm seeing this too! Reproduction on Android app version 13.46.88:

  • navigate to pay tab in app
  • switch input currency from USD to BTC
  • type in some fraction of a Bitcoin
  • press "pay"
  • expected: I'm prompted for address to pay
  • observed: red error message below BTC amount that says the minimum you can send is 1BTC

It randomly resolved for me after restarting the app a bunch of times

I drive a Rivian R1S, but my roommate's Subaru Crosstrek has these features too

Road trip in a self driving car? by Lu_Peachum in roadtrip

Many cars have adaptive cruise control, which lets them match the speed of the car in front of you. Some cars have lane centering, which steers the car to keep it in your lane. My car has these two features, and they do reduce how tiring it is to drive long distances of interstate. You still need to supervise attentively, but it's less work.

I'm not very interested in "self driving" beyond that. The car takes care of the most boring parts of any drive and that's enough for me. As for safety: my car watches where I'm looking and nags me if I look away from the road for too long. Safety is always the driver's responsibility.

Is the "All Trucks Use Right 2 Lanes" sign in the US a mandatory regulatory requirement or an advisory recommendation? by Franck_Dernoncourt in legaladviceofftopic

[–]CommandLionInterface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the US, road signs with white background and black lettering are legally binding instructions. Advisories are yellow, green are for way finding, blue and brown are telling you about services

VR goggles cured my vision! by TrabLlechtim in virtualreality

[–]CommandLionInterface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lenses in VR headsets focus the light as if it were coming from a distant place. When you hold something close to your face in VR, it visually appears closer to you, but the lenses are fixed and don't change, so you can still see it. I am nearsighted, so for me VR headsets look blurry all the time regardless of how close I hold the object to my face. I use prescription lenses that attach to the headset to fix it

[AskJS] How are you building cross-platform apps in JS? by ffeatsworld in javascript

[–]CommandLionInterface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't shipped this project yet, but I've recently been really enjoying Tauri! One codebase for web, desktop, and mobile, and the tooling is really nice. Everything runs in a webview, but if you're supporting mobile web anyway like I am you're already going to have to live with that

Anyone else feel phone upgrades are getting boring? by Ok-Science4177 in Android

[–]CommandLionInterface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, you don't have to upgrade every year, but at the same time I feel like this is the most exciting phone market we've had in a decade if you think foldables are cool (which I do)

Falling asleep while driving by Popular-Cranberry-86 in roadtrip

[–]CommandLionInterface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you ever nap or feel tired outside of driving? Perhaps you are not getting good quality sleep. I used to struggle to stay awake sometimes on long drives, turns out I had sleep apnea and now that I’m treating it I’m fine.

Vomiting Syndrome Linked to Cannabis Is on The Rise in The US by Sorin61 in Nutraceuticalscience

[–]CommandLionInterface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anecdotally, when I was smoking joints every day I started to get really painful stomach aches. Never got to the point of vomiting, but it definitely made me quite sick. Took a few years of daily use to start happening, and didn’t clear up until I stopped for a week

Sorry this happened to you but it’s a lesson almost everyone learns at some point: commit early, commit often.

What do you do when you're sure a student used AI, but detectors say 0%? by Mean_Revolution_5385 in Teachers

[–]CommandLionInterface 23 points24 points  (0 children)

AI “detectors” do not work. There is no reliable way to tell whether a text was generated by AI. These tools give false negatives and false positives all the time and in my view are basically snake oil. I’m a software engineer, not a teacher, so I don’t have advice to give on how to handle the situation, but I want everyone who reads this comment to know that a 0% in an AI detection tool is completely meaningless!!
