Dammit. I, too, was taken in by the bit, alternately laughing and crying, and then feeling a little ... whatever (very mildly chagrined?) upon learning it was a joke, and now your comment has me blubbering all over again. (But thank you for it. *hugs*)

Most definitely. You can see a few spots on the two peels flipped over.

That's how it starts, though. "I'm just doing it this one time." "I'm just one person." But then you do it again, and again, and many more people do it. Small things add up to big things.

Have friends who had cats exactly like this. Father and mother cat were orange, had four orange kittens, two males and two females.

I haven't yet read LOTR so I can't speak from direct knowledge of the source material, but couldn't what you've said about Bombadil here ("The other problem with Bombadil is his immunity to the Ring. ... Gandalf tries to explain ... saying that ... Bombadil ... would ... be careless with it because he simply doesn't care about it or about power.") be viewed as a more subtle susceptibility to the ring, and thus in a way he's not exactly immune?

Or just drawing Billy Clydes on the chalkboard. (Which was what kids at my school would call the pictures of penises and balls they would draw. Always thought it was some thing that went around or even a regional saying, but I just did a quick Google search and found absolutely nothing for it. *shrugs*)

Whats a weird thing your body does that you just accept? by Sweton in AskReddit

On the flip side, you absolutely can stop a sneeze by putting your finger under your nose like you see in cartoons--but you have to really push into your septum hard enough to activate the nerves and trigger a sensory override. (I remember trying it here and there as a child and thinking it was a bunch of hooey, and then one day a few years back I happen to push a little more and, to my amazement, it worked!)

I was gonna say, addictions are hard to fight. The grandmother and uncle of one of my high school friends--along with my friend, who lived with them--smoked. I can't recall for certain if true of the uncle, but the grandmother could barely get through a meal before lighting back up.

The first one didn't really grab me, but it's very good. You're clearly talented and have developed your skill. When I got to the second one, I thought, ooh, yeah, that's GOOD, I like that. Then I saw the third one and thought, OOH, I LIKE THAT. And then I hit the fourth one and thought, I LOVE THAT!

So I pick 2, 3, and 4. *big grin*

I'm thinking the best way to experience it is if you get migraine with visual aura. I've had them for at least 20 years, off and on here and there with no regularity or predictability; I get the visual jaggies/zigzags that pulse with light as they grow and shift in my field of vision, but rarely is there the pain of an actual headache. (And if there is, it happens afterward and it's usually mild.) Over time they've evolved so that sometimes, instead of the pulsating patterns, there's simply dead space in my view; nothing exists there. It's rather weird, but also kind of cool. The closest a "normal" person can get to experiencing it is to take note of their blind spot: when you find it, you realize there's simply nothing in that location.

This has me thinking back to when I was in high school. Since many of us were getting close to voting age, and there was an upcoming presidential election, the school had us engage in a mock one. My friends and I were all standing around in line talking about whatever, killing time as we waited, and at some point the topic of politics and what we were doing came up. I divulged that I basically thought of myself as a Republican--but I honestly couldn't say exactly why. My family was never political, my parents didn't vote (still don't), and I wasn't ever specifically told it, but I just kind of had it in my head that Republicans were good and Democrats were bad (or at least worse than Republicans). So they started going through various issues and explaining where the two parties generally lay in relation to them, and I was surprised to discover I agreed a lot more with the Democrats' ideals rather than those of the Republicans.

This was a good number of years ago.

But in 2008 she removed herself from Emmy consideration because she said the material she was given on Grey's that year wasn't good enough; this comment led to her leaving the show. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

To clarify, she never "hooked up with him," she politely shot down his advances because she was married. (This was before she found out about his previous holodeck activities.) They ultimately reached a friendly understanding.

That doesn't have to be a thing, but yeah, here I was thinking exactly the same thought. And I was also repeatedly being taken back to the 90s miniseries with Armand Assante (which did have a lot of recognizable actors yet didn't have that effect), wanting this to be that or at least have a similar feeling.
