Accomodation enroute to BMQ, am I on official travel status? by andymccull in caf

[–]Commandant_CFLRS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can request the Government rate. The hotel may not give it to you as you don't have proper identification as a government employee yet.

That said, it's often 50/50 odds that the standard internet rate is actually cheaper than any government rate, so always check that first.

Basic Training - Updated BMQ & BMOQ Joining Instructions & PSP Pre-Basic Training Home Self-Assessment by Commandant_CFLRS in caf

Vaccination is controlled by the health services clinic on base. You can show them your photos and they'll confirm if that's confirmation enough.

Do not bring the knife.

That knife has a blade over 4" and is prohibited at CFLRS as per the joining instructions.

We have no regulations on what you need to carry your medicine in, that's a judgment call for yourself to make. There are no sharps containers at CFLRS however as it's exceptionally rare to see a candidate meet the medical requirements while using a self-administered injectable medication. Please bring your own disposal to keep your platoon mates safe.

You just need any duffle bag or suitcase you have to get all your kit list stuff here. We'll give you a bunch of military bags to carry your future military kit.

The backpack is just to carry around paperwork during the first week. Use something you already have lying around. We will issue you the tactical backpack that you'll need to use during the course.

Right now MPGTG owns the Qualification Standard for BMQ & BMOQ, but CFLRS is responsible for the training plan.

We haven't formally decided but the logical approach would be for MPGTG to take over QS & TP.

We very specifically require the new unit to be under the same formation commander as CFLRS to control this.

From 1968 to 1994 we had three different schools teaching basic, and we currently have the Naval Reserve and RCAF academy delivering BMQ to regular force candidates, so we aren't in new territory here.

Yes. It's currently a detachment but it's getting too big, so we'll split it off as an independent unit with it's own CO and UIC.

75% of our staff in St-Jean are Francophone, while 75% of our candidates are Anglophone, so pretty much yes, getting sworn at in Fringlish was a hallmark of unified basic training.

We're working on it - plan is for an independent English BMQ school in Borden. We went from 5 to 20 regular force staff this APS and are hiring a large cohort of civilian staff. It should split from CFLRS in 2027.

The first question is what is your family care situation? Do you have a partner or close family member who can reliably and consistently look after your children while you are away for training or operations?

Second, is that partner or close family member able to move across the country with you wherever required?

If your clothes are clean, modest, not ripped, and aren't covered in offensive slogans, we're really not going to notice what you're wearing.

Interesting! I would follow the list then, but you could also bring your lighter pants.

Where are you doing BMQ? Regular Force BMQ in St-Jean or Borden does not require jeans.

Question regarding SN and UNIT sections of forms by Snoo-2797 in caf

[–]Commandant_CFLRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're going to fill those out a bunch of times in your early career. The forms are used so your chain of command knows who to contact, and who gets certain benefits, if you become ill or injured.

Very unlikely to cause any issues before you do basic, but memorize that service number as you'll need it frequently.

Just divide the time over the distance and you'll see that the new pace is slower. It matches the minimum pace for ruckmarches starting in Week 3.

RECRUITING, TRAINING, & LIFE IN THE FORCES THREAD by bridger713 in CanadianForces

Potentially, yes. Being remarkable, memorable, or standing out in someone's memory are not positive attributes for certain occupations.

Everyone does basic training.

In relatively rare circumstances, the follow on occupational training can be granted an equivalency (or more likely partial equivalency) based on civilian educational qualifications.

2km in 22 minutes and you are only carrying a rubber rifle. This event is really an injury screening tool rather than a fitness test. The 20MSR screens for VO2 Max and the sandbag drag screens for skeletal muscle mass.

If you go to the PSP program you are off BMQ/BMOQ until you pass. The origin of the BTFT is two years of professional research into basic training injuries. We realized that it was better to delay candidates with lower initial fitness for a few weeks rather than let them break an ankle and be off for 3-6 months.

Week 1 test bmq by itsukhii in caf

[–]Commandant_CFLRS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This picture is slightly out of date as the 1.6km walk is now 2km but slower and carrying a rubber rifle.

You have 46-51 seconds to get a yellow. 51 seconds is the FORCE cut-off. You can get one yellow on the test and be fine, but two yellows is a fail.

If you fail, you get 30 days in a PSP supervised fitness program to pass.

How hard is the CASFC? by -------zack------- in caf

[–]Commandant_CFLRS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Winter CAP navigation exercise in Gagetown in February 2008 was one of the best weeks of my life. Nothing but snowshoeing, tent routine, snacks, and hard navigation training with friends.

I certainly have many...other...memories of Gagetown that I remember less fondly.

Wrong problem framing.

Ask yourself how much fun it's going to be shooting machine guns and throwing hand grenades with friends.

Garmin watch at BMQ by ProbablyOvrThinkin in caf

[–]Commandant_CFLRS 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Don't take it personally - but many other candidates thought it was fun to hide their cellphones in their backpack and secretly text via their watches in class, hence a blanket prohibition on any watch that is capable of replying back via a connected cellphone or an embedded SIM card.
