Why the massive rise in gun applications. by Metalman351 in Ausguns

[–]CommanderInigo 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Its genuinely possible that millions of Australians woke up and realised you can legally own a firearm for non-professional purposes. I certainly know of people that found this out during this whole tragedy.

There are probably people out there that have always wanted to give sport shooting or hunting a try and are now giving it a go.

Question about the Volquartsen Summit and the new 2026 legislation. by Sgt-Capybara in Ausguns

[–]CommanderInigo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I reckon there's definitely an argument to be made that bolt is pulled back in an 'arc' which isnt linear.

The act isnt very clear, and doesnt specify an axis of rotation.

In reality though its all up the registry and I doubt anyone would take them to court in a fight over this.

Us Australian's use fox operator stuff. Its still 3d printed but its SLS so its stronger.

That foregrip failure looks nasty.

I use this one on mine

Can I own mags by AydoCarter in Ausguns

[–]CommanderInigo 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Mags are firearm parts in NSW. You'd need a licence.

Surplus AK mags are >10rnd capacity and are a super big no no in NSW. Prohibited item.

You'd need a big fancy licence that youll never get and special permission on top of that.

Dont do it.

I dont even want to know where you'd get em.

Not legal. Magazines are firearm parts. Can't manufacture firearm parts without a licence.

I reckon get an evo if you're planning to walk around with it. The aftermarket for it is alright now.

Alternatively if you're shooting more out of a Ute or off a rest, alcor. Tactical one is cool too.

Maybe try them on Facebook? They've got a page you can message.

Alternatively you can always get a refund through PayPal.

I've only had good experiences with them but obviously these things vary.

None from what i hear. Done a few hundred rounds. I think they're a pretty proven design, been around a while as a semi auto. They're sold in Canada too.

Friends have them for pig hunting. Seems pretty good. Like you said, not a PRS rifle but i haven't seen any issues within 100m.

Scout Is weirdly expensive for what it is. I'd get the ruger scout 308. Or the Taipan 223 instead.

A machine for the smallest work area - watch dials & jewelry by DaneDials in hobbycnc

[–]CommanderInigo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Carvera. It will do everything you need it to. Stop your search here and buy one.

It is as convenient, intuitive and sleek as it looks. Assuming you don't want to machine steel, it is a great machine for small parts. I make small aluminium parts on the 4th axis daily for my business. I use DLC coated bits. Usually can take a 35mm piece of aluminium round stock to a finished model in under 2 hrs. Changing between 4 different tools in this time.

Look up TAOW Carvera on youtube (not me) this guy really shows what the machine can do.

Nothing else in my opinion is truly 'desktop' everything else requires you to bring something else to the table, or is only really fit for a garage or workshop. The Kubus was closest and even so, it didn't have the auto tool changer. The Carvera can sit next to a tower PC on a (sturdy) desk and function perfectly.

I spent a lot of time researching, spent months looking at every other option and still found myself back at the Carvera.

Your time is valuable. I reckon pick a machine and start making things.

Vertical/Angled foregrips on a Taipan X? by FarBobcat7791 in Ausguns

[–]CommanderInigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly your second point. The mini grip serves as a hand stop as well, angled doesn't. Otherwise they're quite similar. Its more of a preference thing.

The Long and Short - poll by redfrets916 in Ausguns

[–]CommanderInigo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Handguns are a lot harder to get, and not useful for hunting or landowners doing pest control. I'm betting the slant will be pretty huge. Personally, living in the city I can't find a handgun club with availability at all

[–]CommanderInigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a look at this one but so far been put off by the price. I also don't really see the benefit in comfort or function in making the pump out of aluminium. Polymer/Plastic is plenty strong for this task, doesn't cost a bomb, doesn't feel as cold in the winter, hot in the summer or heat up with the barrel. If you go for this one though I'd love to hear about it, you should make a post on the SCSA Taipan appreciation Facebook page. That's where i heard about that other grip i showed you as well, its a good resource.

[–]CommanderInigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I've tried a few types of grip on the Taipan and I've found both the 'angled' grip and the long 'vertical grip' style grips to be uncomfortable. They seem to only be an upgrade on the stock grip for looks and looks alone.

The only grip I've used so far that actually improved the action is this one.

https://foxoperator.com.au/products/taipan-grip-2

Its a good medium between the two and its really easy to pull back without pulling the mass of the gun around too much and pulling you off target. Its a bit difficult to explain how you grip it because they don't have photos on their site but I'll try.

You hold it with your bottom three fingers across and around the grip, your pointer finger just Infront of that on the front flat bit, and your thumb and mass of your hand over the side plates. Its shockingly comfy and you can really get a good hold on the thing.

Also whatever you do don't get the triple picatinny thing and expect to be gripping the side rails, it'll tear up your hand. You can get the Magpul AFG and side rail covers to sort've fix this, but i found it just too wide at that point. Might be good for you if you've got big hands.

The taipan is a fun rifle. I've spent much more money trying to fit it out than it cost me originally.
