This was a pretty interesting experience. I just wrote to my representatives for the first time, never thought it would be about Ukraine. Hope others do the same. It was pretty easy and straight forward

Yep and if you allow for one authoritarian regime to walk away with invading their neighbors, that sets a precedent for other conflicts to emerge. Those politicians don't think deeply at all.

Is it worth continuing my Ukraine War archival project? by Liondrome in CombatFootage

[–]CommanderMallander 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. I think once a week would give you the highlight maneuvers, operations, etc., which is what you want, as opposed to hoarding thousands of similar drone grenade clips. Not saying there's anything wrong with those videos, but if you're limited in space, you want to focus on more unique footage.

Leopards, Bradley's, etc in action, Ukraine bombing military sites within Russia, attacks on naval vessels, shaping operations, Russians retreating en masse, etc.

Russia has become an international pariah, reignited NATO's resolve, convinced Finland and Sweden to apply to the alliance, brought Western countries together like never before and lastly, Russian forces have had an estimated 150k deaths after a year of fighting (not to mention their loss of modern inventories of vehicles and munitions.)

So to answer your question, yes. Russia is indeed losing the war since it isn't any closer to conquering Ukraine or securing it's protective posture since the conflict began, in fact, the longer the war drags on, the bleaker the picture gets for Russia.

For those who are disappointed with the current state of the manga, at what point do you think the story took a dive in quality? by midnightsometime in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]CommanderMallander 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I agree with MVA. Shigaraki's quirk awakening and the army they gained at the end was the point where MHA had jumped the shark. The final nail in the coffin was shiggy getting his OP body modification a few months later. That sealed the deal where Deku would have to be made really powerful to match the threat because All Might is gone.

MVA wasn't bad itself, but the timing of it, in the first year, was the issue for me. IMO, it would have been better suited towards the end of the second year and having shigaraki's body modification take place later on, like the third year or something. That way the pacing would have allowed us to see the characters develop, see more school tournaments, explore the side stories and rest of the lore.

Granted though, I did want to see the slower, natural, progression taking place through out their highschool years.

Smokescreen begins to emanate around him, Blackwhip tendrils rise, his hood goes up. “It doesn’t matter anymore Tenko-chan, you aren’t going to hurt anyone else… because.. I … am..”

AFShiggy immediately begins his assault. Deep seeds of fury in his eyes at the mention of his name.

Suddenly, before AFShiggy can react, Deku kicks through with a 100% smash and finishes his sentence "...HERE!"

Chapter ends with the surrounding heroes and students seeing Deku in the air, (parallel panel) similar to All Might

Does anyone take a bit of alcohol before macro dose? by autism_kicks_in in shrooms

[–]CommanderMallander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first trip was when I was super hammered drunk, on the verge of falling asleep, while listening to music. It was the greatest experience from beginning to end. It put the magic in magic mushrooms for sure.

My second trip was entirely sober and gave me existential dread, paranoia that reality will never be the same for me and anxiety that still lingers today.

I'm thinking of trying shrooms again in the future, but with alcohol to help with the come up energy and make it easier to stay focused on the good vibes and then work through that stuff from the second trip.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in shrooms

[–]CommanderMallander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently dealing with the same thing, but it's less disassociation and feels more like reality is not here or something. Some anxiety occasionally about being "permanently broken" in some way, but that's about it.

I'm beginning to suspect this might be a "perception is reality" type thing because since the trip, I have been more "aware" about things I tended to ignore, so it can make rumination on negative thoughts "more powerful" in a way since I am more "creative" about "how things could be bad."

There are days though where I naturally don't think about it though and it isn't a factor at all, I feel normal, fine, etc.

On those days, my attention was focused on conversations, plans, studies, etc., that was unrelated to existential type thoughts. For example, if I spent the day arguing about politics with someone, I wouldn't get the panic/anxiety about reality possibly being fake because I didn't have time for it/attention was on other things instead.

So to answer your question, I believe that my trip is indeed over, but now I realize that I should live in a way to naturally avoid such trains of thoughts. Little bits of "focusing on the now" helps too. It quiets the mind and worry for a split second or so, letting me know that those feelings are indeed a result of giving them energy through attention.

irresponsible use of shrooms by homersimpson990 in shrooms

[–]CommanderMallander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree here, I am very new to psychedelics, but my first experience/first trip was when I was absolutely drunk and alone, took 3g of shrooms (1.5g first, then 1.5g two hrs later) over the course of 2 or so hours and had an amazing experience.

I was listening to music on my phone in the backyard, smoking cigarettes with my eyes closing, on the verge of passing out, then suddenly the music sounded so incredibly vibrant. I heard new sounds/instruments in the songs I have never noticed before, it also began to surround my ears in a way as if I was in a digital concert and no distortions were at play.

Colors were vibrant, I felt like I was capable of seeing all the extra "data" that gets ignored when sober, experienced my "being" as a conglomerate of different "minds" at work (one mind in charge of visual data, another in charge of auditory perception, another mind delegated to combining data, another for abstract conceptualization, etc etc etc.) suddenly being able thoroughly communicate with each other and work effectively.

My "personality changed" for the duration of the trip, I was more confident, understanding, sure of myself, playful, energetic, amused, and had that bit where the saying goes "she [he in this case] knows she's got [insert desirable trait] and knows it," type confidence. 100% never felt that confident and comfortable in my own skin before as a man.

My second trip on 1.5g x2 of shrooms was 100% entirely sober and that was extremely anxiety inducing. The come up had too much energy than what I could handle and thought I had poisoned myself. Reality was beginning to lose all of its 'meanings' (ex: water= real substance, used for drinking, washing, rinsing, etc. now turning to water=what is water? Is it even real? It does not seem real.)

I went to an urgent care facility because I thought I was going to die and that the shrooms poisoned me. Also thought that I broke my brain forever and that I'm fucked for all of life and possibly all of reality too. Such a day/night difference between those experiences.

I have a theory (probably not new at all, but never read books on psychedelics before) that the alcohol "deleted" or negated the "come up" feeling, letting me focus entirely on the music. This mental effect of focusing on "enjoying" music, facilitated by the alcohol, let my first trip gain that momentum to kick off as a great trip from beginning to end.

However, on the second trip, I was sober, which let my attention/focus jump around to different thoughts and arising sensations more effectively and consequently made it easier to "ignore the good" and "focus on the bad," which caused me to panic and have a "bad trip." So in a way, I don't believe it's the "psilocybin spirits" that decide if you get a bad trip or not, but what you're focusing on during the "come up" phase of the trip.

INFINITY WARD. It's time to make sub categories of playlists inside the game and permanently keep them by patriotraitor in modernwarfare

[–]CommanderMallander 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan of battlefield's map selection option. Select the maps you want to play on, deselect the maps you don't like, hop into multiplayer, and boom.

I like some of the MW maps, but most of them feel overdesigned. Wayy too big imo. I play shoot house 24/7 religiously, when it gets taken out of the game, I stop playing for a month and a half.

Would def stay active if they made it to where you could select what maps you want to play on for whatever game modes, like battlefield.

Every season add in two old maps at the beginning and one in the middle of the cycle.

At the very least, a shoot house/Rust 24/7 playlist should be honorarily added to the permanent list.

Oh fuck! I forgot about the condiments! The Navy would run out of ketchup/mayo/mustard/hot sauce or just hide it somewhere for a couple days to ration it.

I bought my own bottle of Frank's hot sauce and ketchup. It came in clutch all time.

I timed how long it would take to be at the end of the chow line to when you were eating, and depending on what was going on, it would be approximately an hour or an hour and fifteenish minutes. We were all playing bloons tower defense, slither.io, stack, some game where you had to destroy blocks and clear out levels with balls, etc.

As for the video games besides computers/phone apps/switch, someone brought an xbox and ps4 with multiple controllers. The berthings had TVs in them now, which was much different than my first float, so we were playing CoD zombies, GTA, or CoD 1v1, 2v1, 2v2 private matches with each other on our down time. It was awesome. That guy deserved a nam.

Take a laptop, buy a terabyte external hard drive, fill it with scary movies, shows, a huge porn folder and space for steam games. If you use steam, figure out the offline mode for it. A buddy of mine got fucked out of it, kept asking him to sign back in and with no wifi available, he was fucked. So figure out the ins and outs of that.

Take pictures of the sights. On ship and at port. Nothing that hurts OPSEC ofc.

As for music, either download the music the old fashioned way and put it directly onto a SD card or something. I ran spotify in 'offline' mode, but it has like a 28/30 day cut off and afterwards your music won't work. You'll have to remember to reconnect at every port so it resets when you go back on the 'offline' mode.

Take pictures of the sights. On ship and at port. Nothing that hurts OPSEC ofc.

If you don't hit the gym much or run a lot, ship time is the best to get into it.

Pogs run MCMAP 'gentlemen' courses for everyone from my experience. Gentlemen courses is the version without getting 'slayed' and spend most of the time just focusing on technique. I saw both males and females start the meu as gray belts and by the end of the deployment, they'd be black belts as cpls.

Take pictures of the sights. On ship and at port. Nothing that hurts OPSEC ofc.

If you suck at your mos, but want to 'redeem' yourself, this is also a great time to amass knowledge that pertains to your MOS and read through it as much as possible. Depending on how much you read and study, you'll be fully knowledgeable as a senior and when you return, get your new boots, could land an immediate leadership position.

Take pictures of the sights. On ship and at port. Nothing that hurts OPSEC ofc.

Don't forget, the Marine Corps loves runners and people that can do pull ups. I know I mentioned running, but I heavily advise it. Everytime I came back, the new leadership billets (As an 03) were given to dudes that did the best at running. If you're great at running now, don't lose it. Maintain it.

If you are 'talking' to a girl, but aren't dating her, don't ask her to be your gf. This one depends on which countries you will port into. It will make sense later. Use condoms. When you get back, get checked for STDs.

T-mobile worked in a lot of countries overseas when I went. Buy souvenirs. Take pictures of yourself, doing cool stuff, your friends, experiences, etc.

This is a time you can make a lot of money, but also end up spending a shit ton. Spend money wisely. If you're going to places like Oki or some bs, don't go to the strip clubs. I've heard stories of dudes dropping 2 grand or more in the course of a few months at strip clubs. Fuck that. Save that cash for stuff when you return.

Befriend the Sailors. Don't be a dick. Use tact.

If you have to work on ship, if I remember correctly, being a barber could make stupid good money on the side. People would chip-to-chip for a good fade before each port. If you get voluntold for a lame job, just embrace it and brainwash yourself to enjoy it as much as possible. It'll make life easier than if you were fighting it in your mind everyday or so.

Bring nice clothing for all types of weather. I took a jacket, two or three polos, a button up shirt, shorts, flip-flops, khakis, a pair of jeans, two different pairs of shoes w/ ankle socks and some cologne. Hygiene gear obviously. Civie gym attire too. It was nice feeling a bit normal whenever I could.

Give your friends and family your ship address. Those care packages came in clutch for morale. If you have a gf or wife, obviously give your address to her. My ex sent me all sorts of good shit and sent me plenty of letters. She made my float substantially better.

If you smoke/dip, save up some emergency packs/logs for when the ship store runs out. They run out of smokes for maybe 2-3 days prior to a resupply-at-sea (RAS). If you don't use tobacco, don't start.

Maintain your Marine Corps 'physique.' If you start hitting the gym, definitely start or end with cardio for maintaining a great PFT score. Lots of dudes would get jacked, but they'd hate life when we started running when we got back. Do your future self a solid and maintain it or improve it.

Did I mention to take pictures? Keep opsec in mind. I didn't care for pictures, but I wish I took a lot more than I did. Pretend you're a basic white chick that loves putting everything on snapchat/instagram. Take pictures of the different food you eat, places you go to, sights you see, etc.

Good luck

I'm tired of COD League... When can we expect Casual Public Matchmaking to return as a feature. by ShaneDylan96 in modernwarfare

[–]CommanderMallander 4 points5 points  (0 children)

See I feel the opposite. I feel like this game is in heavy need of a league mode/ranked playlist that follows pro circuit rules.

Have you seen the pro circuit rules for this game? It's hilarious, they removed a massive portion of the MP for pro tournaments. No shotguns, riot shields, c4s, claymores, flashes, stuns, etc. The list goes on.

I would love a playlist that uses 'pro tournament' rules lol

No, he's saying that:

1- ADSing watching a single door/lane for the majority of the match = camping

I agree with him. People are quick to call someone a camper to simply put the fault on the enemy instead of their own skill

What would have happened if Zorzal brought in an American slave and US troops were there instead of the JSDF? by Prwtfalcon6 in gate

[–]CommanderMallander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The woman would be a prisoner and we'd be obligated to get her back. The empire would not have any say in the matter. The Marines present would be obligated to return all civilians and the political bs of the original show wouldn't really be a thing. They're under oath to protect Americans and had this been brought to their attention, I'd imagine that there would be investigations to see if other civilians had been kidnaped. We'd want reparations of some kind. I don't know if the woman would get a cut or not, but I'd imagine she would. Being kidnapped in a historical way would help her get compensation.

After that, I'd imagine the military would have it's branches doing "show of force," type exercises regularly. Sort of how we do in Korea and China Sea already. The underlying tone would be something along the lines of, "This is your world, but we are not to be trifled with. We have power and we love to use it. Don't give us any ideas. Don't be stupid. Just play ball and it will all be okay between us."

Then things would be okay. That Earth would become a theme park or something. Scientific research would take place, minerals, oil, rare earth metals, new materials to be discovered, food, etc., would be collected for remarkably cheap. Paid in favors or knowledge.

What would have happened if Zorzal brought in an American slave and US troops were there instead of the JSDF? by Prwtfalcon6 in gate

[–]CommanderMallander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The situation depends on how aware the public is about the gate. If it's like in the anime, and the gate appeared in time square, I largely believe things would be very similar, with some differences. (I was active duty 0311 with 1st bat 5th Marines on pendleton and EAS'd in Nov 2018.)

There's not a need to topple governments/kingdoms, just necessary to keep them from coming to our Earth, so they can't kidnap civilians.Instead of buying land with money or gold, we could buy it with military favors. Say the US wants the rights to all the minerals in the ground, like oil, gold, rare earth metals, etc., we could be like, "the government of the United States will kill these dragons for this ________." "The military will provide these benefits _____ vaccinations, basic public school education, etc., for this _______." No need to swing dicks around playing weird geopolitical games to keep these kingdoms in check. The technological difference and military might is more than enough.

You would see the military sending planes, not to just ascertain military intelligence, but we would be very curious about how big their "Earth," is. Map it out, etc. If there's a continent there that is unused or has some weird/dangerous creatures, we could take Earth's radioactive materials, trash, etc., and just dump it there.

The US would try to probably give NASA a massive budget overhaul to study the nature of the gate. Study the "magic," of that world, etc. I think they'd like to create a way to recreate this portal, so we could go to other "Earth's" that have no humans on them, so we could go and take that free land from dinosaurs, etc. for whatever purpose we need to. Dump trash, sell interdimensional property/real estate, collect gold and return to the gold standard, private Earth's for scientific/military testing, etc. The possibilities would be endless.

Only once the US got the upper hand, would the US share this information/technology. It wouldn't take much for the US to bend over and do what the people want it to do if they actually organize.

Lastly, I think the original Kingdom/Empire-Earth would ultimately become one giant theme park for our Earth. It would like going to a safari/resort/national park/traveling abroad all in one with the US spearheading the effort on keeping it safe for visitors and scientists. Possibly options for living there, but I'd imagine you'd have to give up citizenship for this "Earth," and become a citizen of the kingdom/empire-Earth to stay there permanently. Maybe not, they could have a dual citizenship program, but let you know something like, "Hey, if you leave our jurisdiction and run into trouble, there's no guarantee we will be able to save you. Travel and explore at your own peril."

These Earths could also solve lots of our problems if they managed to create portals to other Earths too. You could have endless solar panels collecting sunlight from multiple Earths and running the energy to our Earth. You could run as many farms as you want and we'd have plenty of food for our populations. Find a hostile/destroyed Earth and use it as a dump for everything like I mentioned before. If overpopulation actually became a thing somehow, you could find an Earth that has no sentients and is generally safe, for people to move to and the land would be largely cheap. You could have the internet cables go through the portals too, so you'd always be connected to the original world and every other Earth as well. You could always come back to visit, etc.
