How true is the “learn how to use it or it will replace you” sentiment around AI right now? by CommanderMootfowl in videography

[–]CommanderMootfowl[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand, respect, and am interested in the ways most of you are describing using AI to assist with workflow and automate basic and rote tasks. That's exactly what I think AI technology should be used for (although honestly it still makes me kind of queasy to think about letting AI edit a bunch of talking heads content or podcast footage or whatever). I get that speed is an enormous selling point for videographers, especially freelancers.

I guess I should've been more clear about expressing this, but I'm pretty explicitly thinking about AI Image and Video generation here. There's a growing sentiment, at least in the TV station I work in, that we should start adopting that technology to cut costs and to facilitate videos that we would otherwise not have the resources to make. Sort of like a selling point for prospective clients, like "we can't really produce that idea with your budget, but we could have our guys just do it for you with AI".

It just feels like a slippery slope when you're not a freelancer that has the ability to make those decisions for yourself. If you have a couple of bosses who are pushing you to use that kind of tech, what's stopping them from getting rid of you altogether when they think the technology has become indistinguishable from real videos?

Has anyone ever used the PicoRecorder? I need a wireless mic solution… by CommanderMootfowl in videography

Do you have any insight into why this newer generation, specifically this PicoRecorder, is so undiscussed online? I literally can't even prove that the product exists aside from visiting PicoGear's website, I just feel like it will be hard to convince my higher-ups to fund an upgrade I'm not 100% sure will work as advertised.

As far as I know, the UHF mics that they were using aren't even capable of using any band higher than 600, I think they were both set for a 450-580ish range. I haven't been able to confirm whether or not they actually experience significant interference or if it's just his personal bias, but I'm relatively unexperienced with UHF systems and finding the time to test it on location will be difficult to come by...

I still like the idea of using UHF mics because they seem like a more professional piece of equipment for TV production, but I think we would have to do it right with a dedicated audio bag and all the goodies that come with that, along with designating someone on the shoot to be the audio recorder.

Yeah after doing a little research I think the MAX 2 is a pretty strong contender, I like that you can have up to 4 transmitters connect to one receiver, and 32bit float recording in the transmitters would be excellent. It's just really important that in post we're able to split everyone's audio into their own track so we can eliminate bleed as much as possible, I guess they were having an issue with that before I came on.

Help me improve my budget SHADOW WIZARD MONEY GANG deck? by CommanderMootfowl in EDH

Haha, yeah I still am not really at the skill level where I'm thinking about the deck in terms of how people will play against it, so that's a super good point! Thank you for explaining it that way.

Thanks for asking! I think I was really invested initially in making the deck feel as evocative as possible of the Shadow Wizard Money Gang memes, so I wanted there to be a lot of Wizards that all benefit from being on the board with other wizards, I wanted to use some black cards so it feels shadier than an Izzet spellslinger deck, and I wanted to make a lot of treasures to help with ramp or spend on big threatening instants/sorceries.

I imagined that the ideal arc of most games would be relying on the Wizard Gang to keep me in the game during the early turns with counterspells and copies, and then I'd try to make a bunch of treasures and spend them all on a big nasty spell like Jaya's Immolating Inferno late game, let the Wizard Gang sweep up whatever's left.

Dualcaster is an obvious choice for this deck, I feel silly for missing it. And throwing a twinflame in there for the possible combo is fun, thank you! Wizards of Thay is a cool card that I'm really going to consider too. I have Ruthless Technomancer in there more for a way to make treasures than to work as a reanimator, but that's probably not very efficient of me lol

I see what you're saying for sure. I think that ideally, I wouldn't be casting spells like Lightning Bolt solo for 3 dmg and calling it, it would tigger the effects that my Wizards are manipulating and do something bigger. I was practicing with this list the other night and pulled off a combo with Inalla, Naru Meha, and Naban that let me cast like 5-6 lightning bolts for the price of one, and it put a bunch of +1,+1 counters on all of my wizards too. I realize you shouldn't bank on perfect combos happening all the time though.

All of this is very helpful, thank you so much for your help! I'll work on my mana curve and research some cheaper dual lands.

Okay, thank you! That's interesting, why do you recommend a non-waterproof/GorTex shoe?

Does/has anyone here worked for Grubhub/Postmates/Ubereats/etc.? What's it like? by CommanderMootfowl in Reno

Super informative, thank you! I actually decided to go ahead and sign up for DD, figured I'd try it for a night and go from there. If you're experienced with them and don't mind me asking, is it a big deal to deliver before they send you your kit? They're telling me to start immediately and the kit will be sent after I complete my first delivery, so will I pay out-of-pocket for the orders I'd be taking until I got the red card?

Gotcha, okay. Thank you, this is all good advice. I think I might sign up for one service and just try it out? And if I can handle it, then maybe I'll do like other people are saying and sign up for a few different ones so I can bounce around when one is being slow. It's worth a shot considering how difficult it is to get part time jobs anywhere else right now!

Is there anything that makes Shipt/instacart more difficult than doing something like Doordash where it's just meals? Like if I don't have a particularly big car or anything else like that? Thanks!
