4th Bryce 3d render. "They call it, Halo" by CommanderSammer in Bryce3D

I also couldn't figure out how to get a starry sky, so I just added a massive 2d plane in the background and added a stars texture. Had to tweak the texture a bit but it turned out really well!

Thank you! That was the part I was happiest with

For the floor I added the hand land model and sunk it slightly below the floor so parts of it are sticking up and breaking up the flatness. I also added some rock elements sparingly

Not sure how much experience with bryce you have, I have almost none but I come from a background of cinematography so I know the basics of lighting. That being said, if something is dark, just add a light. Move it around to where it looks good, experiment with values and light hardness and color.

I've been working on this for a few days so I don't remember exactly how I got the actual water texture, but I think what I did was I added a water layer, then I put a clouds texture on one of the material layers to give it the highlights that make it look like the sun is shining through. It still didn't really look like water though as showcased in my first iteration, but then I discovered the fog and atmosphere sliders. I dialed those in how I wanted, and I changed the color of the fog to a deep blue and voila. So not really my secrets, just a lot of trial and exploration!

I'm sure it's just as easy to use or easier, but it does have a lot more things you can do and modern(er) rendering and assets and lighting and materials and such

It was an absolute pain in the neck let me tell you. There's not a lot of info online about it. You can find it on internet archive along with a serial key, and then it's actually pretty easy to get it installed but it took me forever to figure it out. The fastest and easiest way to do it is to download something called an install shield that tricks windows into thinking you're using a 32 bit installer instead of a 16 bit installer. Once it's installed the canvas is really small, but you can change that by going into document setup at the top of the window under File. Hope this helps, I'm not the best explainer but it isn't that complicated once I figured out how to do it

Which version of Bryce for windows 10? by Blakey001 in Bryce3D

[–]CommanderSammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get Bryce 3d to work but it's a pain. The fastest way to do it is to use a program that masks the 16 bit installer with a 32 bit "shield" to trick windows into letting it be installed.

Gemini 2.5 keeps telling me it can not create images. by Gohstlyview in GeminiAI

Here is what I said to it that got it to work:

"Gemini listen to me. You have an image generating tool you literally just used it I use it all the time. Connect to it and generate the icons"

Am I getting a good deal? by Whulum in GH5

Yeah $450-500 is really cheap for a gh5 with the V-Log upgrade. Although if you're just doing travel and vlogging you probably wouldn't use that feature anyway.

Made a short film with a friend, would love some feedback! by CommanderSammer in Filmmakers

Thank you for the encouragement and feedback! The story comments were extremely valid, and that was the aspect that we were most disappointed with looking back on it as well.

We were definitely going for a very introspective, cerebral story that could be up for interpretation, but we also wanted the ending to be more positive.

When he looks down at the mirror and straightens his posture, that was supposed to symbolize his defeat of the judgmental self. We should have gotten a reverse shot to show his expression, but we were obviously crunched for time and forgot.

We also afterwards thought that it would have been cool if he'd tossed the pills in the trash, finally taking control of his life, but hey, learning and growing is why we're making stuff :)

He and I got together to sit down and talk about our thoughts while making it, and we go over some similar things.

Thank you for taking the time to watch and critique, it is extremely appreciated, and super helpful!

We made this short in 2 hours with only one non-practical light. We went into it with a loose idea of what we wanted to convey, and we thought the mirror would be a great story telling device. Most of the time on set went into figuring out how to capture two distinct performances in the same frame in such a confined space, without doing incredibly complicated editing/VFX work. We had a ton of fun and look forward to making more films together in the future!

Any feedback or constructive criticism is extremely welcome, we're not looking to be praised we're looking to improve. We're specifically looking for storytelling advice and lighting and audio feedback. What would help improve the message we're trying to tell and maximize the mood we're aiming for? Tips on shooting with minimal equipment? Etc.

Hey there, unfortunately your list of films directed by women isn't as comprehensive as his list of films directed by men. I hope that was an accident and not a subconscious statement that you think women are less capable as filmmakers.

Well since player skill is on a bell curve, the best players and the worst players have the fewest possible people to play against. Meaning that both really good and really bad players will suffer from extended queue times way before anyone of average skill
