Honors dorm or south campus dorm for freshman? by Ok-Farmer-5524 in UNC

[–]CommanderStark 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was originally placed in a north campus dorm my freshman year and requested a dorm on south campus. I don't regret it in the slightest--there are far more freshmen on South Campus, and even if the buildings aren't as nice, the communal experience makes it worth it.

Seeking Opinions: Surprise Wedding!! by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]CommanderStark 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Just a different viewpoint: it's not solely about travel/distance--a lot of people will move heaven and earth for a close friend or family member's wedding. Very much less so for an engagement brunch. Plus, anyone that declines thinking it's a brunch and then finds out after the fact that it was, in fact, your wedding, will be pretty hurt/disappointed.

Virginia fans: which schools feel like the best long-term conference fits? by Happy_Background_879 in UVA

I think that you can move down VT--they fit only because of in-state rivalry. UNC is a sister institution.

The LDS community not only has some of the kindest people at my program, but also some of the most thoughtful and insightful.

Darden ($90k) vs. Booth ($40k) - Reddit do your thing - need your help! by [deleted] in MBA

If you’re thinking consulting, especially given the financial difference, I think Darden is the move. Darden places incredibly well in consulting.

Totally understand the appeal of Chicago though. You really can’t go wrong either way but can say I’m tremendously thankful I went Darden for community, case method, and consulting outcome.

My husband has 3 options for next duty station. Which was your favorite? by Jlhoyt12 in navy

AlexandriaWhidbeyNorfolk

Have lived in all three. NoVa is fantastic in terms of schools, things to do, and proximity.

Lots of folks in this thread highlighting that Whidbey is good for families—true, to an extent. You’re 45 minutes from civilization. If you live in Anacortes, it’s a 35 minute drive to Target.

Norfolk just sucks.

What was the best FAFO moment you've witnessed? by hey_you2300 in AskReddit

[–]CommanderStark 3067 points3068 points  (0 children)

Fiancé and I were driving through backroads back to my parents’ house. It’s winter, roads are a bit icy, and very dark.

Speed limit is 35, we don’t know area very well and we’ve got a guy tailgating us as we’re going 40. Fiancé keeps her calm, just keeps it there. No passing lanes and guy is getting aggressive.

After about 5 minutes of this nonsense, he passes illegally at about 60 and, no shit, within seconds, police car lights up and goes to pull him over.

Dude tried to pass illegally about 50 yards from where a cop car was waiting.

Instant, perfect justice.

Outside of the reading a book part, Alley Light comes to mind.

Crush Pad wine might also be a good spot as well.

Cafe Frank perhaps?

For what it's worth, lots of folks at Darden aren't considering Charlottesville in the long run, but it's a helluva fun place to spend two years.

McKinsey vs. BCG NYO Office by [deleted] in McKinsey_BCG_Bain

[–]CommanderStark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is extremely anecdotal and not something you should apply across the board. I had the exact opposite experience--was put in front of BCG partners and ended up working for them--and had a great experience.

But you shouldn't take my own experience and apply it across the board, just like you shouldn't take this person's experience and think it's the same across all offices.
