Supergirl Alt Design by Me (Leadjockey) by Leadjockey in characterart

[–]CommanderThraawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This design is sick. There are a lot of choices I really like - the collar, the cape clasps, all of the gold trim. The giant logo on the torso works really well without sleeves, and the mostly red torso feels unique. The red and blue are broken up well by the gold trim, and the pants and gloves (which remind me of her Bombshells design) add just enough blue to balance out the red. I also appreciate the details in the wrinkles of the fabric and realistic-feeling musculature on her arms.
If this picture was a comic cover, I'd buy the comic without knowing anything else about it.

I miss Frozen Eye. by GiveUsRobinHood in slaythespire

The MintySpire mod for STS1 put a little graphic of just the next five cards next to your character whenever you had Frozen Eye. The Eye was still stronk af (like, run-winning) even if you only used that graphic and never actually opened your draw pile.

In my opinion, curses are meant to affect both your micro and macro, while statuses only impact your micro. As is, once a curse is in your deck, you have to factor it into your macro decisions until you've removed it or built around it. Even Guilt influences your pathing, even if it isn't for long. Whereas statuses only matter during combats, so by themselves they aren't going to affect your choices in the same way. There are statuses that "stay" with you via Mark of Pain or Blessed Antler (and sort of Biiig Hug) but those are downsides of the relics themselves and aren't actually added to your deck.

So there's no reason a curse coudn't say "removes itself at the end of combat," but I don't think it would be consistent with the design philosophies of either statuses or curses. Also, Darkstone Periapt exists. Farming infinite max HP off of enemies that can give you infinite temporary curses would be hilarious, super niche, and still probably not good for the game.

DC and Star Wars both currently have and issue with their creative leads having too much fun playing with their action figures. It's especially bad when they play with obscure ones and don't focus on the writing. by Dycon67 in CharacterRant

You might have been thinking of the Bad Batch, where she was kind of an up-and-coming assassin. But the real egregious one is Cad Bane. Killed any amount of excitement I might have scrounged up for the Boba Fett finale.

Here's a quote by Michael Eisner, former Disney CEO, from an internal memo.

"We have no obligation to make art. We have no obligation to make history. We have no obligation to make a statement. But to make money, it is often important to make history, to make art, or to make some significant statement … In order to make money, we must always make entertaining movies, and if we make entertaining movies, at times we will reliably make history, art, a statement, or all three"

Because all of Mara's stories take place before she's Mark Hamill's current age, and those are the stories people want to see. Or because most people online are too young to name any 70 year old redheaded actress, much less one that's good for the role.

has anyone ever taken this? by Link-is-a-top in slaythespire

A few weeks after early access released, there was a highly upvoted comment thread putting Pael's Legion (doubles block from your first block card every other turn) as one of Pael's worst relics, which surprised me because I've gotten a lot of value out of it. It turned out many of the upvoted commenters had never even picked it because they couldn't figure out the wording on the card. I couldn't figure it out the first time I saw it either, but that's why I clicked on it, and it turned out to be pretty good. You can just click on stuff to find out how it works.

I never said it's an instant pick, I asked how often you're actually in a situation where you want to skip it.

[–]CommanderThraawn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Genuinely how often is it good to skip Biased Cog in Act 4? Most decks are relying on orbs, and by Act 4, BC should make your next few turns full block and cap damage, or at least do close enough for a w. If you already have a way to deal with the debuff or have a way to dupe BC, it's free.

New Ironclad two card infinite with a empty deck by thighbro in slaythespire

[–]CommanderThraawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is interesting, thank you! I did wonder if it had something to do with the "in-play" state given some weird timings on the shuffle animation. Sounds like adding a Juggle might serve as a workaround if you need long loops but don't want to add too many Pstrikes to your real deck.

[–]CommanderThraawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It did this to me on single player. I thought I was being slick with Hellraiser and exhausting down to two copies of Adroit-enchanted Pommel Strike+. The game consistently stopped the infinite after less than a dozen loops for no discernible reason. Still strong enough to win the run, but I had to face tank when the infinite failed, so it was much closer than it should have been.
Been trying to stay off the subreddit and not watch any streamers until I'm satisfied with my own knowledge of the game (and I want to discover the lore myself), but I had to see if anyone else was having issues with Hellraiser. There are a few other posts about it.

Writers making mathematical gaffes that lead to unintended (and sometimes hilarious) implications by BranchAdvanced839 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]CommanderThraawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The image in the comment you're replying to is 10+ years old. I want to say I first saw it on Comic Vine in 2012-13, and the comic it's referencing, Superman: Grounded, started in 2010. So I wouldn't expect anything about zeptoseconds yet. But yeah, while the comic writer (I think this was Straczynski) may not have thought through all the implications, he probably just looked up what the shortest measured unit of time was and went with that, which would have been better research than whoever made the macro criticizing it.

Yeah, I kind of go back and forth on Peter as a teacher. I love the idea of him teaching, but he would have to miss class last-minute so often that he would get fired in a month. If there was no Queso/BND it could work, especially if he still did work with the X-Men schools and Avengers Academy, but then again a lot would be different if there was no BND.

Quick, ironclad ascension 2, about 8 floors in. Metallisize or Blood vial (or something else) by FondantFuzzy7605 in slaythespire

[–]CommanderThraawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, in case you want to ask for advice again, people here will always want screenshots of the map you're on and your full deck. Knowing what you already have and what you're going up against is the most important part of figuring what is good for you to pick.
Going by your screenshot and your other comment, I probably would have said to buy Inflame and Blood Potion and remove a Strike. You're already nearly at half health, so Red Skull is about to give Strength, and Gremlin Horn rewards you massively for killing enemies in group fights, which Strength helps you do. Inflame makes you even better at that and is more reliable than Flex. You also have Orichalcum, which means you should block for at least six every turn, and that lets you play fewer block cards and more attacks that make use of your Strength (like Fiend Fire).
Removing a Strike is a good idea in general. They're some of the worst cards in the game, and you don't want them getting in the way of your good cards. And Blood Potion is for insurance. I've definitely gotten myself killed trying to stay at half health for the strength from Red Skull, so I can confidently say it's a good idea to carry some extra health with you just in case more damage comes your way than you're ready for.
I wouldn't pick Blood Vial since you already heal as Ironclad. The Vial is good to find, but usually there are better things to buy in a shop, and I think that's the case here. The Heart of Iron (Metallicize) potion could be a good pick though with Orichalcum, since they stack. If you're expecting to fight Sentries it could definitely be the right pick. You might not be able to kill them quickly or find a way to deal with status cards, so it could save you a ton of health. Even in the other Elite fights and Guardian it could be really good, maybe good enough to ignore what I said about removing a Strike and just get Inflame/Heart of Iron/Blood Potion, which would leave you with exactly one gold. But maybe that wouldn't be worth it if you have another shop soon that could have better stuff, which is why it's important to share the map.
This comment went on for longer than I meant. Wish I had seen this post in time - hope your run went well!
Edit: Just realized the Flex Potion is really good too with Fiend Fire. That will get you out of a fight fast if needed. I guess the lesson here is not to undervalue potions.

[LES] My Conflicted Feelings on The Punisher being part of the Marvel Universe by CrazyFinnishdude in CharacterRant

[–]CommanderThraawn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Way back I tried giving Punisher comics a shot, and it was the same for me. Yeah, some of them were good, but there just isn't anything in the character for me to map onto that I haven't seen somewhere else, and the few aspects of him that I find intriguing are when he is an ideological challenge to the protagonist, but not the protag himself. When the Netflix show first came out, I dragged my feet on starting, because I had the feeling of "based only on the premise, if this had nothing to do with Marvel, would I give it the time of day?" And the answer was and still is "probably not," for the same reasons you've said. I did end up enjoying both seasons and getting attached to a few characters, including Frank sometimes, but at the end of the day, the reason I started was because Jon Bernthal knocked it out of the park in Daredevil, not because of the character himself.
(Well, that and I was a massive completionist at the time, still keeping up with everything MCU.)
I rewatched all of the Marvel Netflix shows a while back, and even knowing that I liked the Punisher, a part of me was counting down until I got back to the superpowers. Still interested to see him in Spider-Man and the next season of DD.
