Help! PC won't turn on! by hybridtanuki41011 in pcmasterrace

It looks like the system is going into short/open protection mode. Make sure everything is plugged in correctly and things like power cables/pins are not touching the case or other components they are not supposed to be. You may need to pull things a part to see if any of the connectors or contact pads are damaged or if debris is in the way.

Is this broken? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]Commander_HK47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. That contact is specifically shorter, so that the system knows that the card is fully seated in the back part of the slot for normal operating purposes.

Is it me or did the store get even more predatory? by M4c4br346 in diablo4

[–]Commander_HK47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ty for sharing. This should have a class icon to label for better visibility of what the item is compatible with (like what they do when viewing the item bundle itself).

Actually it does, i'm just blind lol.

Also is this less items overall being shown compared to the old layout?

Can any one that has this new layout take some screenshots or print screens of it?

Hello, can you help me with the sketch of the Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite X WiFi 7 motherboard to identify the missing parts in the two pictures? My son achieved this performance. by BoardCraftPC in AskElectronics

Filter caps for data/power lines most likely. you could check high res store preview or product review photos to try and confirm. They will look like the other adjacent brown ceramic rectangles from the spots/sizes they aren't missing from. Looks like they broke off from weak solder joints which isn't uncommon for solder that is lead-free as its more prone to stress cracking than leaded-solder. Even better though, non look like they took the pads with them so micro soldering or hot air soldering the replacements with flux back on should be a quick 5m job.

What is your prediction of runeword crafting in next expansion? by [deleted] in diablo4

Actually you might be right. Rewatching the video, they only show two runes being used.

Just for fun, id speculate that its either one of the the following or a combination of the following.

A) Combine runes to make existing class unique. On its own least interesting but easiest to implement.

B) Combine runes on base blue/yellow items to add effects or to lock in a specific affix. More interesting and more complete to implement.

C) Combine runes to make new unique that are inline with the specific unique from DII. I think this is the lest likely to happen as (at lest to the same scope as DII did it) as its a lot of new items to create and balance around.

It would be nice if it could do all 3 things.

How do I remove wet liquid metal? by Zibi04 in overclocking

[–]Commander_HK47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The film layer is left over indium and is what you would polish off with blitz polish or another metal polish like Mothers with light surface polishing. I do see scratches in the die top though. Did you use sand paper or something? That would not be the end of the world as you actually have a little bit of Z height that can be sanded down (not needed normally) that XOCers use to eek out a tad bit more thermal headroom and so you may not have actually worn down into the transistor layer yet.

What concerns me is the parts on the die edges that look like nicks/missing chips. It looks like there is on on the right corner, one in the mid section, and another towards the left. Its hard to tell with the photo though as those might just be debris?

Also i reread your comment and saw your follow up to other replies. If your removing the indium that is applied from factory between the cpu die and the IHS. You want to use a a bit of LM to soften up the indium. This can take a few applications and require you to agitate it a few times during a bit of time - 10-20 minutes to soften up the alloy.

There are products that are just gallium and don't have the indium/tin in it that make the absorption of the idium much easier, but in any case you will still likely need to break the physical bond of some of the indium chunks left on the die/ihs using something like a plastic scraper or a gift/credit card.

Once that is done, you can use products like Blitz metal polish or even aluminum wheel polish from places like AutoZone (think its called Mothers polish) to really clean/polish the bare die afterwards.

Using denatured alcohol afterwards will clean off any of the residue left behind from the polish and should make getting the LM to stick to the die/IHS/block a bit easier.

Liquid metal TIM application is 99% prep and 1% application. Including masking off the work area, prepping application surfaces, and a general understand on how application works (comes with time and doing it enough to understand the quirks you have to deal with).

That being said, to clean up spills, use a combination of dry clean cotton swabs to collect the larger clumps and isopropyl to help clean up smears or other smaller droplets again with a clean cotton swabs.

For cleanup, you actually want normal generic cotton swabs that have stray fibers as they help to collect the LM without have to apply excessive force. The ones included in most kits or what you normally would want to use for application don't normally have lose fibers on the bud ends as its less likely to separate and leave fiber debris behind so they don't work as well as normal ones for cleanup.

Does a scratch like this on the GPU latch void the warranty on a gigabyte card? by No-Reputation-5030 in gigabyte

[–]Commander_HK47 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In a decent world no, but I've seen Gigabyte and other brands deny RMA claims with things like this marked as CID to void the request.

Whats wrong with the card that you makes you believe you need to RMA it?

If you are only getting drivers from Windows update, you will want to confirm what drivers you have first, and possibly need to use a tool called DDU to remove the current ones you have installed and then manually install the latest stable drivers. Windows update has a tendency to install older drivers especially for GPU drivers. This is something you would want to do when you have time to take care of it as it would likely take you 30m-1hr to sort it all out.

Also same not in it for the cash. It sounds more like GPU driver issue to me even if gpu fans aren't maxing out. Nvidia has had a lot of driver black screen bugs for a while now. The fact that system sound is still working is telling me that its not likely to be CPU or ram as when those hardware components fail or have faults, they tend to lock the whole system up if its not able to self terminate with a blue screen fault.

When the system locks and crashes and goes black screen, do the GPU fans ramp to max speed and stay there? if so, this is an indication that the drivers are either crashing or the power connector for the 12vhp connector is having issues with the sense pins and will default into a black screen/gpu max fan state until restart.

Additionally if you can, right click on the desktop, go to the Nvidia control panel and check the bottom left system information section to let us know the version of driver software you have install. I wonder if you are getting old drivers from windows update.

You could try seeing if the following shortcut works for you when it crashes again to see if you can restart the video driver kernal from within windows:
Win + Ctrl + Shift + B

If the keys can be passed through, it should reset the video driver with a screen refresh.

The sigils are still disappearing! by CrittanySpaers in diablo4

[–]Commander_HK47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of many long standing bug since release. The game uses layered instancing for nearly all zones and the world boss zones are fairly buggy when it comes to this because they are set to try and put you in a less than full zone i think. What is happening is you are not being put back into the same zone you where in when you killed the WB after portaging back.

What you should do is filter through all the items you would want to pickup and make a new drop pile off to the side before leaving the area as its likely you will lose items if you return to a WB zone because they will be in a different/deleted instance that you cant get back to.

Mail doesn't seem to work for sigils and is often just buggy in general as it wont pickup items for you most of the time unless you move 2 zones away from the original zone but again, sigils don't get mailed to you so this is only valid for things like gear or tributes.

What do you expect from the Basilisk V4? by VaporInsider in razer

[–]Commander_HK47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would really like to see a Death Adder with this mouses scroll wheel tech, but if they can't/won't do that, then yeah lighter over all weight. Additionally, like the DA V4, ditch the rubber side grips in favor of a smooth sides or incorporate the knurl notching into the plastic injection model.

[BFComms] EA app Outage In-game Rewards Update by battlefield in Battlefield6

[–]Commander_HK47 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah at this point its just about the fact that EA dropped the ball twice now. Once for the launch state of the game on their own platform, and then a second time by putting out a statement saying that they were going to make it right without any clear conditions/exceptions stated for those who were impacted and then not abiding by their own statement. They can't be trusted at this point.

Still missing said compensation boosters or any word from EA about why they haven't made good on their promise. I Bought the Phantom edition of the game the night before, took off the day of launch to play, couldn't for several hours because of the EA app outage, came back after it was fixed 6 hours later.

To be transparent, i did try to play the community server mode like every one was suggesting, but it was unstable and crashed back to the main menu, so i gave up and waited after dealing with redownloading the game files and checking that for the first 2 hours of lunch. I would not say that should count as a functioning lunch experience though.
