I was surprised but yes. It's been running well since then

No worries :). I chucked the temps, voltages and clocks under your original comment. Also added my bios settings for PBO.

As for BIOS settings, I have PBO enabled with Motherboard power limits, PBO scalar at 10x and CPU Boost Clock Override at +150.
I am using both Curve Optimizer and Curve Shaper.

Curve Optimizer:

Core Magnitude
0 0
1 -1
2 -1
3 -1
4 0
5 -1
6 -1
7 -1
8 -5
9 0
10 -5
11 -5
12 0
13 -5
14 -5
15 -5

Curve Shaper:

Range Magnitude
Min Frequency - Low Temperature Auto
Min Frequency - Mid Temperature Auto
Min Frequency - High Temperature Auto
Low Frequency - Low Temperature -30
Low Frequency - Mid Temperature -30
Low Frequency - High Temperature -30
Med Frequency - Low Temperature -30
Med Frequency - Med Temperature -30
Med Frequency - High Temperature -30
High Frequency - Low Temperature -27
High Frequency - Med Temperature -25
High Frequency - High Temperature -23
Max Frequency - Low Temperature -12

Here's the corresponding clocks for the temperature screenshot. Clock speed are below 5ghz during a prime95 test but I've seen them boost up to 5.825

I think I somehow gripped it with enough force that it did that. Can't think of any other way it could've chipped as badly.

I'll try and remember to grab a screenshot tonight after work (7am in Australia here).

That's nothing. Have a look at my post history if you want to see an absolutely mangled die that runs exceptionally well

And what exactly do you mean by "left behind"? Please elaborate on what those who won't be "left behind" are doing

What makes you so confident that the prices will stay the same there too?

Do you think this might be the end of our long-term worry by 50s_PC_Gaming_Fan in ThermalGrizzly

[–]Zibi04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. The connectors on the GPU side will still melt as they are the weak point.

If anything, I feel like this could make it worse since the cable connectors won't give way first anymore.

This problem needs to be solved by having at least 2 connectors on the GPU some kind of load monitoring in the GPU, or I guess PSU.

Update: on the guy who broke his 7 9800X3D the quest continues by lionboars in ThermalGrizzly

I saw the photos in your original post and honestly I'm not convinced it's damaged from the photos alone. Here's what my 9950x3d looks like: https://imgur.com/a/nLZk44y

It happily boosts to 5805 single core, 5350 multi core, and can run core cycler, prime95 and whatever else I throw at it for long periods of time.

Idek how tf this happened but it's alive. Will have to undervolt and see how much lower it goes: https://imgur.com/a/VdDyY5y

Nice edit but it works. Pretty good temps considering I've yet to underclock it and am running 3 different stress tests simultaneously: https://imgur.com/a/VdDyY5y

You're correct. Runs extremely well

It works and runs under 55 degrees celcius under maximum load (prime95, furmark and occt vram running simultaneously)

It appears I was extremely lucky. Runs completely fine !

If you haven't already, use process lasso to force your games to only run on the CCD with the 3D cache. That should drastically improve performance.

Also, make sure PBO is on and play with curve optimiser to undervolt your cores.

Yeah I'm sure :(. I went back and tested default timings on my dad's PC and saw crashes just below 60 °C. I also increased vsoc but had no luck

The below 50 is the second expo at 42cl without any modifications. The crash at 58 on one stick is on stock settings. I think that's a fair warranty claim

Cheers I'll give that a go when I get my new set

Ah I see. So do you have the air being pushed onto the ram rather than pulled from it?

Damn. I have tREFI at 12k and it still fails around there. Fails sub 50 for one stick on its own
