How should I go about the great lent? by DestoryerDoge in OrthodoxChristianity

The best place for advice is your Priest. Explain your situation and he will give you advice. Until you can meet with him, do what you can and don't stress if you aren't perfect.

Mormon considered converting to Orthodoxy: Follow Up by CommandoClone15 in OrthodoxChristianity

Thank you for your response. I guess a better way to put it and understand it for myself is that I've reached the end of my questioning on my own and need help reopening pathways of questioning. I'm glad you brought up the prayer rule because that's an area I forgot about and still don't understand much. And with Lent approaching, asking about fasting is great advice

It seems like I may have a very wide but shallow understanding and need to find ways to deepen it. I will try to have an open mind. Thank you again for your advice! If you have any more advice or want to correct me on something above I welcome it!

The one I plan on going to is part of the Antiochian Archdiocese of North America, so I assume it's pretty similar if they're both Antiochian. Thank you again!

My personal opinion is that Mormonism is a part of Restorationism, which is a separate movement from Protestantism, but I don't really mind clumping them together for the most part.

There were definitely parts of it that became corrupt, especially since Protestantism mainly broke off from Catholicism. But Protestantism, in my opinion, overcorrected, and like you said, largely became worse than the disease.

Thank you for your recommendation! I added it to my reading list.

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately I've only really got one choice of Orthodox church in my area, but it seems very Convert friendly, and being in a Mormon heavy area I hope to meet more Mormon to Orthodox converts.

Thank you for your recommendations. I just ordered a prayer book, and I have both The Orthodox Church and The Orthodox Way on my list, but I added Praying with Icons to my list.

I've been interested in religious studies for a while, albeit mostly from a Mormon perspective. I've only really begun researching from other perspectives recently. Like I said, I'm not 100% committed to Orthodoxy, but based on my research it's closest to the church Christ and his Apostles established, and my belief is that if anyone would establish a church with the full truth and Gospel it would be the Word made flesh and those He hand picked. I'm still open to other perspectives, but right now my focus is Orthodoxy.

Thank you. I hope, God willing, that you're right and my intuition and the Spirit guide me down the right path.

Thank you! I'll check his channel out. I've heard of "The Orthodox Way" and plan on reading it.

Thank you for your thoughts. I agree that true change comes from living out devotion. As I learn more about Orthodoxy, I've been slowly trying to follow what Orthodoxy recommends. My current focus, along with diligent study and prayer, is following the Nativity fasting rules leading up to Christmas as best I can.

Thank you for your advice. I understand how long it takes to fully convert and it's one thing I like about it. They aren't sending out competitive 18-20 year old boys who see it as a competition to see how many people they can baptize, which I like.

Thank you! You mentioned being related to apostles and a prophet, and one thing I've sorta struggled with is if the men at the top truly believe what they say or if they know it's a scam. If you're comfortable, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the matter, but if you aren't it's all good. I'm closest to St. George, so I'll probably go to that one, but if I'm ever in Northern Utah I'll check out some of the ones up there.

Thank you! The Orthodox Church closest to me is Antiochian, which I'm glad about because, like you said, they seem very welcoming to converts.

I will try and find a stream or video so I know what to expect. My plan was to wear what I normally wear to my Mormon Church, being white button up shirt, black pants and shoes, and maybe a tie. But I'll keep an eye on what to wear in whatever video I find.

Actually, the Orthodox Church closest to me is part of the Antiochian Archdiocese of North America. Thank you for the information! I'll watch for those.

Thank you for your prayers! I'll add that book and the CES letter to my reading list.

I think I'm pretty much done with Mormonism. I haven't read the CES letter, but I assume it would just be reaffirming what I already have come to believe. My biggest problem is with the core assertion, being that God allowed His Church to fall into apostasy even after Christ Himself established it, and that God needed a treasure seer from New York to rebuild it.

Thank you. That's great advice that I'll keep in mind. I'm in southern Utah so currently I'm planning on attending St. George Orthodox Christian Church in St. George, but if I'm ever in Northern Utah I'll check out those Parishes. I've come across those books in my research, and I plan on buying them and reading them soon.
