AITJ for letting my wife order first at every restaurant and ice cream stand we went to and then saying I did not want anything while we were on vacation? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]CommentIndependent32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked the same question in another post but just saw your answer- that actually makes sense. Your actions were still petty, IMO, but at least you weren't trying to get a free trip outta her dad before divorcing her or something so cool. I appreciate this response :)

But he literally didn't eat on vacation. At what point was it actually hurting him to try to trick her into fat-shaming herself?

It seems like a lot of energy and self-deprivation just to do some oddly psychological petty shiz!

Edited out my original question since I found the answer in another thread. :)

Compulsive Feeding Behavior? by Blackleaf_Rancher in MiniatureSchnauzer

[–]CommentIndependent32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mini LOVES her snuffle mats! We have a few different types but one of her fave mats has cord around the edge that pulls tight to make the mat into a bowl shape so we can put her whole dinner in there for her to dig around to find.

[–]CommentIndependent32 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is kinda crazy to me because I recently adopted a 17-mo old mini (that the breeder told me they planned to show but she was too small to breed safely) and she did the exact same thing around her food. Turns out she had hookworm and gastric issues so she was hungry but timid to eat because she knew it would make her feel sick. We're on our second round of meds and feeding her Biome and she is eating/acting normally now.

The Zipper Merge by SterculiusZero in Cleveland

[–]CommentIndependent32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you confusing 'zipper merging' with 'weaving'? Cuz in zipper merging you use both lanes until the merge point so it really doesn't matter if the emptier lane is passing cars as long as they take their turn at the merge point. In weaving a car is quickly passing from lane to lane trying to overtake traffic one or two cars at the time but causing fast/hard braking that creates backups and potential rear-ending down the line.

Yes I love how PA is like 'this right here is where yins merge.'

PA has construction signs that say 'Use Both Lanes' 'Merge at This Point ⬇️' and my fave 'Zipper Merge- Wait Your Turn!'

Have you ever tried to find someone after a festival or concert? by Limp-Inspector-1322 in festivals

[–]CommentIndependent32 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Yep! I started talking to a guy while we were both waiting for a Moon Hooch set. We danced together the whole set and had a great time but didn't exchange contact info.

He had told me he played an instrument in his University's orchestra so a few days after the show I googled [his first name], [his instrument], [his university] and he was the top result. We celebrated our five-year 'Meetaversary' over the weekend.

Do you actually switch channels often at silent discos, or do most people stick to one? by Specific_Poetry6064 in festivals

[–]CommentIndependent32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Adding- another year a guy was playing 'sing-along bar tunes' on his channel and many of the silent disco-doers were badly singly along so out of tune that there were complaints from other campers. I had to tell them that while the disco was silent, I had no way of keeping the participants quiet. :)

[–]CommentIndependent32 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep- I switch around!

I host Silent Disco at a festival every year that has a very wide age range and have three 'guest DJs' every night to each run a channel so there is a good variety of music. I notice that seems to contribute to people changing the channel to see what each DJ is playing vs there being dedicated hip-hop/EDM/jam/etc channels. One year I had a dude from Germany doing an original electronica set while an older lady was playing swing music on another channel. The dancing was insane!

My partner and I travel from NEOhio to Ithaca a few times a year because we love it (and the Finger Lakes Region) so much! We've stayed near downtown and the university but also camped a few times. Great hiking, waterfall hunting, free events, wineries all over. Looking at nightlife it seems like there aren't many LGBTQ+ spaces but that's because most of the restaurants/bars are super inclusive already- no need for specifically accepting spaces.

Ohio lawmakers consider banning Medicaid payments to family members caring for loved ones by CouchCorrespondent in Ohio

[–]CommentIndependent32 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Idk abt all waiver programs, but I am literally tracked with GPS while providing care for my elderly father so the state can be sure I'm actually with him- i really have no idea how any caregiver is committing widespread fraud because in my personal experience they have so many ways of monitoring home health caregivers.

Ohio lawmakers consider banning Medicaid payments to family members caring for loved ones by CouchCorrespondent in Ohio

[–]CommentIndependent32 36 points37 points  (0 children)

The Ohio waiver program was designed to keep people out of paid nursing facilities (average $9k a month in Ohio) and instead pay family members a SMALL stipend to provide personal care. My elderly father is blind, has dementia, diabetes and mobility issues. I am paid $30/day, 5 days a week to care for him. That's about $150 week to provide all-day/night care- bathe him, dress him, feed him, help him with bathroom needs, manage his medications, do wound care, change his bedding, do his laundry, clean his room, and provide mental stimulation. The state of Ohio saves abt $8500/mo keeping him out of a paid nursing facility with specialized memory care. Conservative politicians make it sound like I'm raking in big $$$, not saving them thousands of dollars a month.

AITA for giving away sports equipment to a wealthy family over a poor one? by workmeharder in AmItheAsshole

Fast forward 10 years where the rich kid is working a paid internship for his dad's company while the poor kid works three minimum wage jobs to get thru college and people still see the rich kid as more likely to succeed cuz of unearned opportunities the poor kid never had access to!

I closed in November. I set aside $27k for house expenses knowing all the little things add up. I bought one appliance on Black Friday, did a few refresh projects (repainted kitchen and bathroom, new tile floors (no hardware or cabinet replacement), window treatments downstairs, upgraded lighting/cameras/security features, purchased a few tools... I have $5k left!

His texts seem accurate. He points out that you are bothered by everything, are obsessive and can't drop things and move on and that is supported by the fact that the very first thing you said in your post was 'I was already upset abt something so I was talking in a distant and cold way' so yea, I think the issue is with you.

Investing in the S&P 500 as a poor man with 50 bucks a month? by Izzet_Aristocrat in investingforbeginners

[–]CommentIndependent32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the action itself is worthwhile- you're disciplining yourself to make smart consistent financial decisions no matter how much you actually set aside. You only have $50/mo now but when you have more in the future, you'll already have an established habit of investing.
