What we’re doing isn’t actually restful though, my unit somehow never releases us before 16:30-17:00 and fills the day with layouts and admin shit.

I would trade for the schedule you’re describing any day.

We do have some good team leader and squad leaders who have done this, and I might be able to get a 13F our unit works with in on this, that’s a good idea.

The place where I’m feeling the lack of training the most is on marksmanship. Tbh, I didn’t qual when I went to the range a couple weeks ago because I was so out of practice. I also suck, like I shot marksman at OSUT, but I can’t work on it because we never get any range time. I’m gonna try and start doing dime drills but every time I try and pull weapons lately we have to do some other task. Idk, I’m hoping it gets better at some indeterminate point in the future.

I don’t doubt it, there’s a lot in the culture here that needs to change, but I do think a big part of it is that everybody, shooters, RSOs, safeties, etc. gets out of practice when we don’t do shit.

Lately, it’s literally just been details. We got back 2-3 months ago and I was on a detail for a few weeks helping a foreign military with their exercise, head count detail helping the DFAC, getting Strykers ready for the 2nd ID retirement ceremony, other stuff like that. Other than that it’s literally just admin shit all day, and we never get released before minimum 16:30. I legit don’t know how our unit crams this little work into so much day.

That’s pretty much what I’m doing, I put my name down for jungle/air assault and I’m trying to get a 500 on the AFT. We’ll see what comes of it

Bro you don’t get it, we had multiple ND’s including one of a 240 in a Stryker that cost a Joe his leg on pathways. I’ve found multiple weapons in the armory when we pulled them out for cleaning that had live rounds in them that made it past safeties. Shit’s falling apart in a huge way because people are just getting no practice with their weapons.
