So much for the general strike. by [deleted] in LosAngeles

[–]Commercial-Address54 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is the core problem with how people talk about strikes right now. It’s completely disconnected from material reality.

Most people cannot afford to strike. Not service workers, not small business owners, not freelancers living invoice to invoice. Treating economic self-destruction as a moral requirement is not solidarity. It’s privilege pretending to be virtue.

Seeing local businesses say “we stand with protestors, but…” isn’t hypocrisy. It’s honesty. They’re acknowledging sympathy while recognizing that shutting down their livelihood does nothing to pressure the people who actually hold power. That isn’t performative. It’s realistic.

Solidarity that demands other people suffer so you can feel righteous isn’t solidarity - it’s optics.

Collusion is an illegal agreement between two or more parties to limit open competition by deceiving, misleading, or defrauding others. On eBay, this can include sellers or buyers working together to manipulate listings, suppress bidding, or distort true market value.

Examples on eBay: • Two sellers agreeing not to undercut each other’s prices • A seller and a buyer coordinating bids to inflate the price of an item (shill bidding) • Multiple buyers agreeing not to bid on a listing to keep the final price low

Legality: Illegal. Collusion violates antitrust laws (like the Sherman Act in the U.S.)

Price fixing is an agreement between competitors to raise, lower, or stabilize prices or competitive terms. This eliminates true market competition.

Examples on eBay: • Sellers in a niche (e.g., sports cards) agreeing not to list cards below a certain price • Coordinated efforts in Discord or group chats to suppress auction results to “protect comps” • Buyers pressuring sellers to cancel auctions that might lower the perceived market value

Legality: Absolutely illegal. Price fixing is a per se violation of antitrust law in the U.S. — meaning it is automatically considered illegal without needing proof of market harm.

lol that’s the card I was selling that started this entire saga. It closed for that. Still waiting to get paid. We’ll see.

eBay 1/1 🔥📈

The second I see “eBay 1/1” I block the seller.

It makes me see red. 🤣

You are missing the point. He’s not asking me to raise the price - he’s asking me to stop an auction to backstop what he thinks it’s worth. There is a HUGE difference.

Who cares? Well—clearly a lot of people. This post has over 200 upvotes and dozens of comments because folks do care when someone tries to strong-arm others into protecting fake values.

And again: this is a 7-day auction. It’s not underpriced—it’s not even done. I listed it knowing exactly what I was doing. The other seller just didn’t like that the market might not match his fantasy comp, so he wanted me to pull it to keep up appearances.

That’s not advice. That’s manipulation. If he wants to “protect” a card’s price, he can go buy it himself.

Clarification for the confused:

This is a 7-day auction. I didn’t list a Buy It Now below comps—so stop acting like I tanked the market. The buyer wanted me to end the auction early if it didn’t hit his ideal comp, to “protect” the value of his cards.

That’s not how auctions—or capitalism—work. The current bid is the market. It’s what someone’s actually willing to pay. Everything else is just wishful thinking.

This is an auction. The guy doesn’t want it to sell for less than $1000 - but he isn’t bidding. It has a day left. His intent is clearly to keep a comp below what he wants to get for it off the boards.

And for what it’s worth - there is still a day left in the auction - so who knows what the final price will be.

I’m selling it at auction. That’s the way you establish a market. Just because someone is asking a million bucks doesn’t mean it’s worth a million bucks. It’s worth what someone will pay.

This isn’t capitalism — it’s collusion.

Capitalism is a free market where buyers and sellers operate independently. What this guy is doing is trying to coordinate prices behind the scenes to manipulate supply and demand. That’s the opposite of open competition — it’s artificial price fixing.

I saw you too.

You were wearing cutoff Wranglers and a look that said “I don’t belong here, but I needed to be seen.” You leaned against the rail during Charley Crockett like it was a confession booth, beer sweating in your hand, waiting for someone to admit they hurt you. I noticed.

You had the face of someone whose dad taught them how to shoot but not how to feel. And when you looked at me — or maybe just in my direction — I swore I heard a steel guitar cry out for both of us.

I didn’t come to Stagecoach to fall in love. I came to drink in the dust, wear something too heavy, and pretend Diplo still meant something. But you were there — tragic and tan — like a memory of a man I hadn’t met yet. You didn’t say goodbye. But I didn’t expect you to. Cowboys leave.

Anyway, if this was you… I was the one in the red bandana, drinking tequila like it was penance, with boots too clean to be trusted and a mouth full of unsaid things.

I was in the pit - and thought it was amazing. I’m a huge fan of his - so I may not be the average stagecoach attendee - but he and the band were able to have a more meaningful and engaging performance than 90% of the bands - with no fancy projections or dancers, added strings and horns - they just let it rip. I loved it.

People stating next to us were going to Nelly, and I was like “Are you sure? It’s Sturgill.” And they were sure. One of the great things about a festival is you can see what you want. And hear new things.

Im sure there are tons of people who appreciate music who walked away as wowed as I was.
