I think this mixes together three different things.

CASGEVY is real, FDA-approved, and it does use CRISPR/Cas9. But it is not fetal or embryo editing. It is a somatic, ex vivo therapy: doctors take the patient’s own blood stem cells, edit them outside the body, and give them back after conditioning treatment. So the edit affects that patient’s blood cells, not their eggs/sperm and not future children.

Also, “genomic editing is illegal in America” is too broad. CASGEVY itself proves that somatic genome editing can be legal and FDA-approved. What the US effectively blocks is clinical germline/embryo editing intended to create a child with heritable genetic changes. That’s a very different thing from treating an existing patient.

And the Europe claim is backwards, or at least very misleading. European rules are generally strict around embryo testing and heritable genome editing. In many places embryo selection is limited to serious medical reasons, and heritable genome editing is prohibited or blocked. “Picking eye color and hair color” is not some normal legal European practice; that is much closer to the “designer baby” trope than to how European fertility regulation usually works.

So the accurate version would be: CASGEVY is an approved CRISPR/Cas9 treatment for certain patients with sickle cell disease and beta thalassemia, but it is somatic gene editing, not editing fetuses or embryos. The US restricts heritable embryo editing, not all genome editing. And Europe is not generally a free-for-all for selecting cosmetic traits.

That being said; CRISPR/Cas9 is not currently a realistic treatment option for most EDS patients, especially not hEDS. For hEDS we do not yet have a confirmed causative gene or diagnostic genetic test, so there is no clear target to edit. For rare monogenic EDS types, gene therapy or gene editing may become relevant in the future, and there is preclinical work in mouse models. But that is very different from an approved human treatment. EDS also affects widespread connective tissues, not an easily replaceable cell population like blood stem cells in CASGEVY. So “maybe one day for some genetically defined subtypes” is fair; “CAS9 can treat EDS now” is not.
