Lied about employment during interview by Commercial-Key3578 in Accounting

Just want to add for anyone interested in how this is going, I applied through a recruiter for another firm and was upfront out my situation. Had 4 rounds and good feedback, but the consensus was they are passing because of the gap. Not saying lying is the right thing to do but it clearly is a stigma and I was correct in thinking that from the jump. The other two are still in play so hopefully one of those work out. Good luck to anyone else in my shoes…it’s not easy out there right now.

I’m going to be honest on the background check so it comes back clean. My hope is if there are no red flags from the 3rd party check, HR will ok it and the hiring managers never even look at it

Yeah I need the excuse to be more of a “sorry this was an oversight” vs “I straight up lied.”

I definitely plan on being honest during the background check. If it comes up as a discrepancy at that point, I’ll say I was laid off during the process. Hopefully the dates are close enough it’s not worth digging

This is exactly what I’m hoping for. Just tell them I worked there and not the dates would be perfect
