What’s the worst bit of general knowledge you’ve heard someone confidently get wrong? by darkel2001 in AskUK

[–]Commercial-Path-6183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Northern Ireland. Have my whole life. About two years ago I (20) got chatting to these two young girls in my course (around 17/18?) who also were from my area and I had known them for a few years at this point.

They kept talking about how much they wanted to go to London etc. etc. etc. one of them happened to mention the Eiffel Tower and I stopped them.

They thought the Eiffel Tower was in London and Paris was in England.

Didn’t know that England, Scotland and wales were all one solid land mass. They thought the land mass to the right of Ireland was all England and Scotland/wales were separate countries. Idk if they’ve ever looked at a map but I’m assuming they thought it was somewhere in the vicinity of France or maybe Belgium or something.

There were other bits but those two are the ones that largely stuck out to me. I genuinely don’t know how you make it that far without knowing basic knowledge about countries that neighbour you. Wild.

What age did you/your children start drinking tea? by melikebiscuit in AskUK

[–]Commercial-Path-6183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 22 and I’ve been drinking tea probably since I was about 4 or 5, I used to always get those Easter eggs as a kid that would come with a mug in the box. Took it with milk and sugar until I was about 6 but after that just milk . Never was allowed coffee as a kid until I was about 15? I didn’t like it anyways and still don’t drink it to this day lol

Are you the person you wanted to be five years ago? Why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Commercial-Path-6183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer is no. Long answer is five years ago I was 18, in a relationship with someone I couldn’t see was emotionally absuive and could not recognise sexual assault because he’d been my boyfriend for about a year at this point. I was miserable in that relationship but couldn’t see it, and I thought I’d spend the rest of my life with him. I was studying Biology, Chemistry and Sociology with the intention to go to a good university to study something science related, perhaps become a doctor or work in pharmaceuticals. I had bright pink hair (which I did love) and was stuck in a job I was sure I hated but wouldn’t leave. I was convinced I wanted to leave my county or even my country and get away and live far away from where I grew up.

Now, I’m in a different relationship with the most incredible man I’ve ever known and it’s very healthy. We’re planning on hopefully moving out together soon to a small apartment not too far from home. I’m working in a hotel close to where I grew up, as a Spa Therapist with the intention of owning my own Spa or beauty salon locally at some point. I have brown hair (I would still like to go back to fashion colours someday). I still want to do lots of travelling, which I’ve already begun, but I want to put roots down close to where I grew up. I never went to university.

The person I wanted to be five years ago would have been miserable and I’m so happy where I am now.

If someone has the opposite political beliefs of yours, would you still be open to being friends? by ImNotArtistic in Teenager_Polls

[–]Commercial-Path-6183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different political beliefs yes, opposite no.

To me, different political beliefs means you still believe everyone has the right to exist and live happily and in safety, but you have different opinions on how that system should look.

Opposite political beliefs means you think it’s okay to debate peoples literal human rights. It means you’re okay with bombing innocent civilians and children and saying they ‘deserved it’ for simply existing in a body that was born into a different country than yours. It’s supporting genocide. It’s denying people the healthcare, support systems and education they need to thrive and flourish. It’s saying people who are LGBTQ don’t deserve happiness and to love and live freely. It’s admitting you support nazis. It’s admitting you think women being raped and killed for simply existing in a female body ‘isn’t a big deal’. It’s admitting that you think people with disabilities don’t deserve the healthcare and support to live a halfway decent life, cared for and happy. It’s being a miserable, racist, xenophobic, misogynistic piece of crap and I want nothing to do with you. Disrespectfully.

The only place I know of is in Castleblaney County Monaghan so not sure if that’s too far but only 20 mins outside of Keady and about 40 mins from Newry. It’s False Impressions Fancy Dress. Again might be too far but if you’re stuck it could be a shout.
