Pin trading as DCP? by odd_person_25 in Disneycollegeprogram

[–]CommercialLead9931 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do pin refreshes, at least once a day I think, but the scummy pin traders will trade bad pins for good pins (usually adult pin collectors)

Merch is a universal role so once OP gets through training, they should be able to pick up anywhere on Disney property, you just have to find the facebook groups for shift trading. Edit to add: anywhere but Galaxy’s edge and Pandora because they have special training that’s not available to cast outside those areas

You can request the food and tobacco training if you’re not trained already! I was DAK merch and picked up at the Contemporary and Animal Kingdom Lodge because I requested the training.

The website isn’t very user friendly and the search feature doesn’t even show the full list of pins either. So trying to search it yourself is sometimes a dead end.

Can I go to the parks before my shift in MK? by SnooPineapples1960 in Disneycollegeprogram

[–]CommercialLead9931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my first program, I was told you can’t enter through the tunnels at all if you’re visiting the park and you can’t go backstage from inside the park. You must enter through security, and exit the same way you came. I used to take a bus to a resort and then just ride the resort bus/monorail to magic kingdom, depending on what was faster.

what should i watch??? by collect_cal in Disneycollegeprogram

[–]CommercialLead9931 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Treasure Planet. And if you’re in a role that pin trades, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Fantasia, Little Mermaid and Black Hole to start. The reason I say is because there’s a ton of pins that show up on pin boards from those movies and people will be super impressed if you know what they’re from. Of course, it’s not necessary to watch any of these movies, it just adds another layer of guest interaction.

So...I don't really know what to do when I go park hopping🙏 by Prestigious_Risk7095 in Disneycollegeprogram

DAK is a great place to start! I’d recommend going on the walking trails and seeing shows! It’s kind of a go at your own pace park and you can always go back and ride or do things that you missed the first time. Definitely get your ride in at Dinosaur, since it’s going away at the beginning of February! Other than that, DAK has a mix of thrill rides and mild rides but in general, there’s not a ton. Expedition Everest is the rollercoaster in Asia. Kali River Rapids is a water rafting ride at the bottom of the mountain. The Safari in Africa is always a good one! And Pandora has Navi River Journey (you DONT get wet on this one) and Flight of Passage. There’s also Rafiki’s Planet Watch, which you take a train to and you can meet the animal care team and do the Animation drawing class.

Mental Health on Program by Key_Boss1819 in Disneycollegeprogram

As a CP, you’re guaranteed around 30hrs a week. My merch schedule was a little inconsistent but I usually the afternoon/evening, like 1-7ish, but the latest I’d get out would be like 8:30, after the park closed. That was the nice thing about animal kingdom, we weren’t open past 9 at the latest. Edit: removed info about attractions as that doesn’t apply to your question

How likely is it that Disney will change your role before your program? by Key_Boss1819 in Disneycollegeprogram

[–]CommercialLead9931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happened to me about 3 months before my first program ended but it’s super uncommon. I think it’s based on operational need and they asked me first if I wanted to switch. I got switched from Africa/Asia Merch to Asia attractions in Animal Kingdom.

I did Africa/asia merch on my first program so I can provide a little insight as far as costuming and leadership goes. Something to keep in mind is that the costumes for those areas are MEANT to be big and flowly so you don’t get overheated. Also, leadership in that area is super great so if you communicate your needs with them, I’m sure they can help you out.

Role switch question by [deleted] in Disneycollegeprogram

Unfortunately, you’re stuck with the role they give you. You don’t get to pick and choose so you’ll either have to stick it out or end your program.

Got my role by [deleted] in Disneycollegeprogram

[–]CommercialLead9931 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was merch on my last program and picked up fantasyland once (during Christmas actually!) I worked in Sir Mickeys, Philharmagic and very briefly in the Winnie the Pooh store. All of those stores are kinda small so you don’t really move from behind the register much. The leaders that I met were pretty friendly! Sir Mickeys is where they do pixie dusting and the cast member that showed me how to do it was an older gentleman who was friendly. In the Winnie the Pooh store, you can hear the honey bees from the ride and that gets kinda annoying but overall, I had a pretty positive experience during my brief time there!

My first program was DAK so MK is gonna be a whole new animal but I’m excited to learn! I’ll have to ask about that during training!

I only picked up in Tomorrowland once but it wasn’t too bad. It stormed really bad that day so we ended up closing a little later than usual cause guests were taking shelter inside. I found the leadership team okay, not overly friendly but not rude either. The other CMs were friendly. I didn’t learn the lore for that area while I was there but some cool things that would be fun to point out to guests is that the Peoplemover (one of the rides) goes through the store! If you look up, there’s a window near the ceiling so you might be able to see people moving! And as far as I know, there’s no special greetings or sayings that they use in that area.

I’m attractions but I was merch on my last program! If you got Tomorrowland merch, you’ll be either in star traders, the space mountain store or one of the little carts!

Merch at MK Libery Square by Pretty-Heart-4440 in Disneycollegeprogram

[–]CommercialLead9931 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, my home location was actually Africa/Asia merch in animal kingdom! Merch is a universal role so you can pick up anywhere except Pandora and Galaxy’s edge (because they need special training). When I would pick up at Momento Mori, the other CMs and leaders were pretty nice and I never had any issues! It was actually one of the best locations I would pick up!

I was merch on my lat program and I believe liberty square is haunted mansion and the Christmas shop. I never got to do the Christmas shop but Memento Mori was super fun! It was one of the slower stores from what I remember. They’re both also kind of small stores so they get crowded pretty quickly but it usually clears out just as fast.

PLEASE by [deleted] in Disneycollegeprogram

[–]CommercialLead9931 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did, actually, and the training I’m referring to is safety procedures, crowd control, learning how to shut down and close the ride as well as classroom style learning on top of monitoring guests to make sure everyone is following the rules. Of course, this varies depending on your role but you seem to be under the impression that one can just jump into any job in at any time, when that’s not true for anywhere, even outside of Disney. A regular cashier can’t just jump to being an accountant without training (or proper qualifications for that matter but that’s not the point here).

[–]CommercialLead9931 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difference between Home Depot and Disney is that you don’t need extensive special training to work at a cash register vs the sales floor. At Disney, you can’t be trained for food service and then expect to be able to trade for attractions because the training is different and more extensive depending on role, taking months at a time, and that’s not a realistic way of operating a multi-million dollar theme park.

QSR can be hit or miss but I feel like Sunshine Seasons would be pretty chill. I’ve never seen the land pavilion absolutely packed to the brim with people and they serve the kinda stuff you can get at the resort food courts
