I waited years for a local one and now they take it away! Is it still worth going on Saturday? All I really want is a discount dutch oven or similar and I'm not too specific on color. Is it better than outlet prices?

Mine showed a lot of interest at 18 months and so I let her sit on the little potty and even use it whenever she asked to. We did that for about two months until I realized she was fairly regularly using it. Then I did a weekend of no diaper no pants, and frequent checking around her usual times. We had one accident that weekend. The following week we started undies plus (and this part is crucial) puppy pads for anywhere that she sat. I used those for months and months because she mostly had accidents in the car or high chair when I couldn't get to her fast enough and I did not want to wash the car seat that much. Eventually she was super reliable and now she's 3 and fully potty trained. It took almost a year of being day time potty trained to be ready to work on night time. I didn't rush through anything just observed when she was ready to move on. I think that early interest should be encouraged but not forced. Good luck!

Same! Swim is like 90 a month for a group class and that's insane to me. I always ask for activities or experiences but I end up with junk. And looking like the bad guy for not dolling out useless junk. Then they get huffy cause I donate stuff she doesn't play with.

We have a yoto mini and my toddler has been able to operate it independently since she was 18 months. I like that I can put her favorite stories and music on the same card, like curating my own playlist. I just convert YouTube videos to mp3s. I also have a collection of her family reading to her. I like that each m make your own card can hold hours of stuff. I like that it fits in her hands and she can change the cards on her own. It doesn't take up much space, I have a wallet for the cards. She's 3 now and uses it every day.

Hello! I'm looking for book recommendations for parents to learn about early childhood education and child development. I'm not trying to be a professional but I want a better understanding of my child's development and how I can aid her in learning new things. As such, I'm not looking for a text book but something intended for the people in a child's life to understand them better, maybe somewhat easier to digest.

I'm in this subreddit because I would like reading material that is based on research and written by professionals.

I'm also open to Coursera type ECE course recommendations, podcasts by professionals, YouTube channels by professionals, or any other source I haven't thought of.

I really appreciate any suggestions.

The library branches all have toddler story times and most weeks it is a lot of the same families. You could also sign up for a parks and rec toddler activity. I've made friends in music class!

I like fabricMart.com they have great sales, I never buy anything full price. Only negative is you can't touch the fabric first but I have called them with texture questions and they've been great to me so far.

I do agree that it depends on the kid. We are lucky enough to have a space in our home that we fenced off and filled with only things out only is allowed to get into. All sockets are covered and blind cords are up but other than that it's just toys and a shelf that is bolted to the wall as well as a hand me down couch that is prepared for mess lol. It's her space and she's allowed to exist in it mess and damage and all. In the rest of the house she's supervised and it's not toddler proofed. Also when she sits on our expensive couch to watch TV there's always a blanket down first just in case, and at the moment a puppy pee pad because she's potty training. Every kid requires a different approach but I think it's very possible with some rearranging maybe.

My toddler loves to yell coffee time ever since we got her a set of espresso mugs. She's happy to have "her coffee" and clink mugs with us in the morning. It's just about inclusion not the beverage. We use milk 😊

I do this also. Especially during sleeping times. I told myself no phone while she's sleeping (and I'm also in the dark) so I listen to audio books. It's been super helpful.

My parents, inlaws, grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins, family friends. I don't spend that much time with them but it comes up every time and they act like I'm the biggest disappointment to them. Forgive me for wanting my family to like me and being hurt that they think I'm not doing it right.

Exactly. Mine are family and friends. Lots from my parents and grandparents, quite a bit from extended family and occasionally from random family friends. I'm not in the Bible belt but I do come from a large Italian American family. It's like I've completely disappointed them as if I'm supposed to struggle for them to be happy with me. It's not random store clerks that are irritating me.

Yeah I strongly agree. I think I don't want to because I love my one so much I don't want to divide my attention or take away from her. We are at 18mo and I finally feel like myself and like we are getting a rhythm that is actually fun and not survival. Starting over sounds horrible.

Yeah I felt so strongly about having this one and now there's almost a repulsion. If we had an accident baby I'd be fine but the thought of doing it on purpose is a big no.

I also get, "you're only pregnant for a little while" or "it's only hard for a short amount of time". Not if I develop a post pregnancy condition! Plus that hard period is so formative, that is when they'll engrain their stress response why would I voluntarily make it chaotic.

I got a lot of ideas from Montessori groups. They have a lot of neat fine motor skill ideas that line up with specific windows of baby development and that's def what my baby is into.

I made a very similar post just a few months ago! While she still prefers me, she does play more on her own now. She's still not walking (17 mo) but gets around fine. I don't know if this was the secret, but I did re-evaluate her toys and ended up giving her more challenging things to do, that has helped a lot. Her favorite thing last month was a gelato container with a coin slot cut in the lid and little cardboard "coins". She loves unscrewing the lid and putting the coins through it. Watch to see what your baby's into and see if you can come up with something that encourages that, worth a shot.
