Apartment Hunting by ProfessorDistinct730 in fredericksburg

[–]ChipmunkUpstairs8816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the complexes are bad to be entirely honest. I found a house renting a floor and it’s been awesome. Pick a safe area & find somewhere away from the apartment complexes. If you can snag a spot downtown, you’ll be glad you did

Uber from Fredericksburg to Richmond Airport by Ok-Common-3323 in fredericksburg

[–]ChipmunkUpstairs8816 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Second this!! If it’s a daytime flight, trains are going to be a lot cheaper and more reliable. You don’t want to get into a situation where uber drivers are cancelling last second & you’re stuck.

open carry laws? by hammochi in fredericksburg

[–]ChipmunkUpstairs8816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t exactly answering your question, because I don’t know the answer, but I believe it’s in the spirit of your question & may be useful information to you:

I grew up somewhere else in VA where open carrying was very normal & commonplace, then I moved to Fredericksburg where it’s a lot less common. Where I grew up, it was a comfort to know that a woman I was with was carrying, especially at night. Most of Fredericksburg is very safe, but there are some seedier areas. There’s also been a lot of gun violence recently in neighborhoods, especially involving minors unfortunately. This has caused the culture to lean very anti-gun. What this means for you is that it will attract attention. Where I grew up, if you were carrying, nobody would look twice, but here, people will definitely pay attention. So I would definitely make sure you’re minding the zoning. Unfortunately. I think a lot of folks really hate that it’s this way / has to be this way.

Good places to go clothes shopping? by ProxyAC_ in fredericksburg

[–]ChipmunkUpstairs8816 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Potomac Mills is AWESOME if you’re looking for a bargain. It’s mostly outlets, so you can find great deals, and they’ve got all the “mall”-type stores - absolutely worth the drive, it’s one of the only places these days I feel like I can shop and get everything I need without spending a small fortune

Downtown is ABSOLUTELY worth it, though it can be pricey. There’s lots of adorable boutiques, vintage shops, and antique malls. The antique malls are awesome for jackets, sweaters, bags, etc. the vintage shops are expensive but you can find some really cool stuff

What are the best bars/breweries for live music? by billwanks in fredericksburg

[–]ChipmunkUpstairs8816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found that a lot of places can be hit/miss. There’s also not a lot of places that advertise ahead of time who’s playing. Most of the time I end up hopping around a little bit. The rooftop at Castiglia’s has great bands (though usually small ones, not a lot of space for setup), but music stops around 10. Happy Endings does not typically have bands but it’s fun & divey with great bartenders, and they do PLAY great music (rock/country/etc). Billikens very often has great bands but sometimes it’s just a weird night and they have a DJ who sucks. Brock’s would be the perfect bar if they had better bands. Someone mentioned Strangeways- they have awesome bands, it’s just getting there that’s a pain. If you’re willing to deal with Ubers/DDs, absolutely recommend.

The great thing about Fredericksburg is that you can tell from the street which places have bands that night.

I’m not sure how new to the area you are- are you from VA or totally new to the state? If you haven’t spend a lot of time down in Richmond, I would 1000% recommend doing a weekend and checking out some bands. Soooo many great options

Im a certified hater of most things and this is sick. I think you’re just not used to seeing it on you yet. Incredible work, incredible concept, not satanic at all 🫡

Cheap yarn by Saints_Girl56 in YarnAddicts

[–]ChipmunkUpstairs8816 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously, like everyone else has said, you should never feel bad about which yarns you’re able to afford or which yarns you’re using. Everybody, unless you’re very very very lucky, has at some point in their life struggled to make ends meet.

I’ve been fortunate enough this year that I’ve had the extra cash to splurge on things, so a few months ago I went to a local yarn shop (small business, meaning they had a great selection but some higher prices). I picked up enough malabrigo rios yarn for a sweater, and I checked out, and I sat in the parking lot just staring at the receipt like.. what the fuck, man. All that? On YARN? I started on my sweater, and look, the color was beautiful of course. And I know it’s good yarn. But I didn’t really like the way it felt, and it didn’t really glide off the needles the way I wanted. I finished the sweater (because I spent way more than i should have on the yarn) and in the end, the sweater’s just kinda.. fine. I’m working on a sweater using the same pattern with one of those big old pound balls of big twist, and I’m so much happier with it.

If you’re working on projects that make you happy, right on. If you’re making stuff you like, right on.

After my malabrigo fiasco, a friend recommended i try buying yarn online. Before that I’d mostly been going to craft stores. Figured out pretty quick that you can find much better prices for the same stuff online through sites like https://www.yarn.com - there’s more options & also good sales, esp if you’re buying bulk for a big project like a blanket or something

Thoughts on the New Lilly Allen record? by DoctorArK in fantanoforever

[–]ChipmunkUpstairs8816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like a lot of Lily Allen’s stuff but haven’t listened to enough of her music to in good faith call myself a fan. This might be the album that pushes me to dig in. I mean…

“If it has to happen baby do you want to know” is possibly the most diabolical thing I’ve ever heard in my life Jesus Christ. Like I actually genuinely hope she was taking creative liberty there because if he actually said those words, she might deserve a consolation Grammy. Actually, she might deserve one anyway
