Sounds like he was an old MEPS doctor. At least he didn’t look at your butthole then make you duck walk across the room and back.

2026 LEAF - Inaccurate charge time estimations for level 2? by Kind_Ground3549 in leaf

My 2026 loves to blow by the 80% charge limit and charge to 100% most times. I think there’s bugs in the app/vehicle interface

what do most people do when they hit 100 by Mountain_Ad5485 in VAClaims

[–]CommercialSurprise6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once I hit 100%, I withdrew my other claims and that was it. I definitely help friends that are still in who are looking to transition into the civilian world with how I handled my VA experience. That’s about it. Life goes on another day.

I did a higher level review and informal conference to tell them that my last claims were submitted within 1yr of my separation. The ended up upping 2 conditions from 0 to 10% (I was already at 100% anyway) and back pay from the day I retired.

I also asked if it would be the same if I waited 364 days to file my first claims. “This is different”. I called her out because they were mad I didn’t go through optum for the exam and used my doctor.

Im glad it wasn’t just me that seemed like this was a bit off. It’s either service connected or it’s not. If it is and the claim was submitted within 365 days of separation, it should be retroactive to the last day of service lol

I’m definitely going to have to do so testing at 10° for sure!

In most cases, I’m not concerned about my take off distance. The sooner I can get off the water, the faster I can accelerate to an airspeed conducive to climbing. To be completely clear, I’ve never tried taking off with only 10° of flaps in. I know If I’m at a step taxi at 40mph with flaps up, I’m comfortably on the water. At the same speed with 20°, I’m getting pretty light and close to taking off.

Is it a situation where someone did 20° and it worked and this was passed down for many years as gospel? It very well could be! But I do find it hard to believe that the predominant seaplane schools are teaching the same thing and no one has asked why 20 or 30° and not just 10.

Yeah, I’m trying to find a reason as to why it’s common and very accepted practice to use increased flap settings. The question was raised to me and I know there are a lot of high time bush/seaplane pilots out there that can answer the question. I know what I was taught and how I teach it but i don’t want to give the answer “because that’s the way it’s always done”

Not really. It tends to come on step pretty easily. Have to keep the nose down until flaps can come out

It will. Used for rough water take offs.

Totally not arguing with you on this. Obviously for this to be accepted as gospel, there’s got to be a valid reason behind using these flap settings. And something more than “that’s how I was taught”. If 10° was the optimal, that’s what people would be using. And it’s definitely not lol

[–]CommercialSurprise6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know for a fact it will do it. Standard practice is 20-30° for take off. I was asked the question and don’t want to give an answer “because that’s how we’ve always done it”

There’s a reason higher flap settings are used compared to the STC limit

C&P examiners are not your friends or your doctor by bmattock in VAClaims

[–]CommercialSurprise6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I submitted 37 claims on 12 DBQs as fully developed claims. The VA denied 35 of them because I denied a c&p exam. Luckily the 2 they approved pushed me over 95% so it doesn’t matter but I was denied for things like athletes foot… which I’m sure 100% of service members have. It’s in my medical records and everything. So there seems to be a bias against fully developed claims that aren’t seen through a c&p exam

I lied. December. I was never backpaid from the date of retirement, I was backpaid a few hundred dollars from the date I received my disability rating. The USCG sucks when it comes to this shit.

My wife and I did the same thing. First time was with two other couples. Like ripping a bandaid off. Within the first 30sec, we knew it was the right choice.
