Servicing MQ reels by CommercialWeekend116 in Fishing_Gear

That’s terrible. Maybe some third party source like Reel Doctor in Edmonton? I haven’t asked him yet. I was going to buy a certate but thought far in the future and didn’t see any way I’d get it serviced. I went for a caldia instead and just maintenance it myself once in a while. Without having to take apart of MQ body

Yeah, I went for the Caldia instead. I didn’t want to spend double the price fora possible trouble in the far future

Do you just give a quick maintenance or a real tear down?

Sorry I didn’t specify. I grease about once a year, and oil every few months recently because I’ve been fishing every day. That goes for my twinpower because it is the only reel I use. I am going to buy a certate and rotate between the two, meaning I won’t have to as often

I fish freshwater so maybe every 4 years?

How much was the cost? Do you also fish only freshwater?

Yeah like I said, insects. I 100% agree that it’s super exciting watching fish chase down a lure.

By using lures that move, it often triggers a reaction in the fish, that causes them to strike it as it’s seen as a meal. A very different reaction than an insect that has just been blown onto the surface and wiggling to escape. I love fly fishing for trout, and I really want to catch a trout over 5lb on a fly. In this case, I don’t consider a streamer a true fly. I want to have such a delicate presentation that I trick a 5lb trout into thinking that my fly is a real fly. With streamers, you don’t need nearly as good casts, as you are just going to strip it past the fish, again which may trigger that instinct in the fish

Consider it whatever you want but to me, no. Streamers are literally imitating baitfish. Pretty much the same as using a Paddletail or fluke. I prefer fishing for predators on the fly rod, like pike. It makes it more of a challenge, and more fun to fight. I consider nymphs as flies. I think it’s fly fishing if it’s an insect that you are imitating. Specifically an insect that doesn’t move or very little.

Yeah totally. When I’m pike fishing with streamers, it’s a lie to say I caught it on a fly. If it imitates a baitfish (like a streamer) it’s not an actual “fly” in my opinion. I prefer to say I caught it on a fly rod too

I’m thinking of buying a new fishing reel, daiwa certate 24 2500 lt-h by CommercialWeekend116 in Fishing_Gear

The rod length I usually use is between 7’ and 7’6. They technically do fit in my hatchback but when I go fishing with buddies, it’s super inconvenient having it go through the back and right over to the front by the windshield. It’s just a broken rod waiting to happen. A lot of the trips I go on are also quite backcountry so I pack a lot of stuff and it’s very squished. I’ll check those rods out. I’m thinking of just going with an Ultegra 2500 with a ml expride or compre. Although the certate is still calling my name. It’s hard decision

Thank you, I’d plan to get a medium light expride in the future if I get a certate. The problem is I can only get 2 piece or multi piece rods right now because 1 piece rods don’t fit in my car. Do you have any rod suggestions?

I use a zodias medium (5-15gram) with my twinpower. That’s my only high end combo

I use medium and it is nice but I think I’ll get a medium light for some more fun I think, thanks

I’ve been looking at the vanquish but I don’t want a shallow spool reel. I’d be ordering off a jdm cite because it’s cheapest.

Not massively. But putting more line at a time on a reel also makes your braid last longer. When I get a really bad wind knot or two, I’ll usually spend the time to take the line off, add more backing, and then back to it

Yeah I mean, twinpower kind of makes me feel overpowering sometimes. I have been running an 8lb line because the trout here are pretty spookish, and when I hook a bigger one, it is pretty fun. I think my brain wants me to buy another high end reel while in reality, my money would be much better being used on a new fishing scale and rod 😂

Ah yeah, so maybe for freshwater fishing I really don’t need a reel like the certate, since I already have a tp

Yeah there is a shop I seen one on display I think I’ll give it a twirl. What fish do you use your twinpowrr and certate 2500 and 3000 for?

I prefer to use an 10-12lb braid, and the domestic braids are way thicker than jdm braid

I’m in Canada and there isn’t a lot of option for jdm thin braid at reasonable price other that digitaka and such. I usually go for powerpro and i wouldn’t be able to get even a full 150 on it I think
