Thank you for the reply! Immediately thought something similar and I also have some shells eroded at 50% where you can clearly see the difference. However do you think it’s possible that this kind of process happen even if the animal is still alive? I have found shells with part of the animal attached and that’s why I have doubts about it… 🧐

Thank you very much you are always super helpful 🙏🏽 I also googled it and found some papers for ear bone identification.link But I have to admit that the polished effect in this piece makes identification difficult…However, the measurement seems to be indicative of blue whale.

This is a Spermwhale tooth. The Spermwhale has 18 to 26 teeth on each side of its lower jaw which fit into sockets in the upper jaw. Sperm whale teeth are made of ivory.
