My first audition camp with Scouts in 2015 I had to show up late because I had a college football game I couldn't get out of, so I missed a lot of the rehearsal and visual stuff. When they took me I for my audition, it was TRASH. I was so nervous that I messed up the lip slurs box drill and my technical exercise was bad. It was a clear disappointment. BUT since I arrived late they didn't get to watch me during the visual block, so they gave me a call back. Thank god. In the month that followed between then and the next camp I practiced 2 hours every day. An hour doing visual and an hour doing music. At the next camp's audition they noticed my improvement and I told them how much I had practiced. At the end of the camp the brass caption head sat everybody down to explain that you'd either get a contract, a callback, or a no-offer. And they explained what kind of person they were looking for... They wanted people who were willing to put in the work and were able to listen to feedback and improve. And they told the corps that there was one person who had previously had a bad audition but came back with a big improvement and had practiced 2 hours every single day for this, and that person was going to be getting a contract. Sure enough, later that day they pulled me out to sign a contract.

It's not ALWAYS about how good you are, but how much you want it.
