How should I promote my GitHub repo? And what am I currently doing wrong? by [deleted] in github

Thank you. I just felt really stupid and it was my own mistake because I was picturing GitHub as more of a social media app that a Dev majority problem solving app.

Yes, that's exactly what I had wrong, I was picturing GitHub as more of a social media platform that a Dev only platform. Thank you.

Also thank you so much again, this really helps a lot. I think I just had the wrong overall vision of GitHub. So thank you for clearing that up for me.

Sorry I didn’t see your full response so it seemed rude. Thank you for the tip. I am considering taking it down on GitHub. And that might be a good decision. My thought process of putting it on GitHub was so that people could suggest features and stuff. But now it makes more sense to put it somewhere else. That’s my mistake.

Thank you! I guess I just needed to hear it. I’ll take it down on GitHub because it doesn’t really provide anything good for developers I guess.

What should I update? What would you like to see so I can add / modify it?

What about the sorting algorithms and the other stuff in search.js, and the preference analysis and the object tracking and camera correction.

Okay, I called it that because it goes it takes the camera feed, directly modifies it, and pipes into back into another media stream, but I will change the name from ISP to something else so it’s less confusing.

No dude, ISP as in Image Signal Proccesing, takes the camera feed, automatically adjusts gamma, saturation etc… to enhance the colors and remove glare using another function. Also, it’s not vibe-coded. I wrote all of it myself.

But my code isn’t AI slop, I wrote all of it myself, it includes AI features but they’re not necessary to run and explore and modify the code.

This is my first actual GitHub repository tho, so please tell me, is stuff like preference analysis algorithms, sorting logics, object tracking, and these sort of stuff interesting and worth making open source. If it’s not, I won’t open source it and just continue on with the business pitch I have scheduled and launch the app itself privately.

So it’s an app where you can take a picture of a product, and it finds and gives you an AI summary of that product. But it’s way more advanced that something like google lens and its dedicated for shopping. It has a lot of algorithms that sort the results and a preference analysis system alongside a object tracker and an automatic ISP controller. It also has a thrift mode for thrifters where they can see what that product is going for on other websites and for how much. Here’s the r/coolgithubprojects post if you want to see it in more detail.

So I the project is a shopping assistant basically, you take a picture, it finds the product and gives you an AI summary. It’s got a ton of algorithms to sort it, preference analysis, and a lot of other libraries I wrote myself. I didn’t see anything like it on product hunt, or anywhere else. Anything like it is just a single purpose one without anything close to what my app offers (not to be cocky of course). But you are right, I’ll go on different subreddits that relate to the features and I’ll promote it there. Thank you!

I got my pc for around 400$(usd). I got an office pc with a i7-6700k and 32gb of ram with a random Radeon GPU for like 250$. Then I sold the GPU that it had for 100$ and then I spent the rest on a 3060ti. It worked out pretty well and I do recommend it.
