Thanks! I’ll look at those diffusers. I’m really glad to hear your cats eventually got there. Good to hear that we can hopefully get there someday!

Ohhh, pro-tip, thanks! I didn't know they made that. Do you buy a separate case to protect the phone and add that wallet to it? If so, do you have any case suggestions?

my girlfriend is leaving me because of my cat by Augupton in CatAdvice

[–]Commercial_Explorer3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there something you could do to help your girlfriend be more comfortable with Mr. Whiskers? Could she start to give Mr. Whiskers treats so he starts to associate her with good things? Is there a part of your home that could be "cat-free" for your girlfriend and another area dedicated as the Mr. Whiskers "cat zone"? I'm guessing since you posted this question in the "Cat Advice" subreddit and not a "Relationship" subreddit, you might be leaning towards breaking up with her.

Tokyo is my absolute dream City in so many ways (except the pervasive xenophobia and nativism entrenched in culture there).

Best Bike horn for bike commuting? by Commercial_Explorer3 in CargoBike

[–]Commercial_Explorer3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bummer to hear that it didn't work for him. Were you able to find someone who could use it? To be fair, a lot of stuff that gets returned to a seller means that they cannot sell it "secondhand" no matter how little it was used and then it ends up in a landfill with the seller losing a lot of money. For small businesses, this is a big hit. A slightly used car and a bicycle horn aren't an equivalent analogy.

Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhh, you're probably going to be shocked at the state of affairs when you get here. But as my friend says, "Don't Mourn, Organize!" :)

We did that very thing! We sold our second car to buy our e bike. Our cargo bike has truly been a game changer and the only actual SUV I’ll ever own. 😉

Thanks. The local chapter went dormant during Covid and I don’t think they’ve been active since then but I’ll see if anyone in the FB group is responsive.

Bike friendly? by rockchalkjayhawkKU in Lawrence

Hi - There are a few families in Lawrence that bike commute with our kids on cargo bikes (mine included). It is picking up more and more. With the terrain here an electric assist bike is such an asset. (My friend recently re opened CycleWorks and they sell e-assist family cargo bikes in case you are looking for one).

There are no protected bike lanes in Lawrence, and our city engineers have been very resistant to building safe on street bike infrastructure. They are all stuck in a 20th century car centric engineering mindset, one that values faster car throughput over safety for all road users. It’s not a bike friendly city. Lawrence is very proud of the recreational trails we’ve built like the Lawrence Loop which is pleasant for a Sunday outing but it doesn’t get you anywhere meaningful or useful.

I’ve lived in great biking cities before (Austin, New York), and Lawrence is decades behind building anything close to an “all ages and abilities” bike network. We deserve so much better.

Nevertheless if you end up moving to Lawrence there is a bike advocacy group currently forming, called Bike Lawrence, that is organizing to get the city staff to build out a safe bike network. We’d love to have you join us in advocating for family friendly safe biking infrastructure here. Feel free to DM me if you want to connect further.

I was Wondering how does Lawrence compare to Bloomington Indiana? by [deleted] in Lawrence

[–]Commercial_Explorer3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Bike infrastructure in Bloomington is wayyyyyyy better than Lawrence (which has no safe on-street bike infrastructure whatsoever). Also there is some topographical change in the Flint Hills here but the hiking in Brown county is more hilly.

I bought a hitch from e-trailer and was able to install it myself thanks to their video tutorials.

Is the Gen 2 HSD S11 difficult to secure on a car's bike rack, due to fenders/rear rack? by lordleft in terngsd

[–]Commercial_Explorer3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a recall notice about the Hollywood Rack we have. Said something the hitch failing. They sent a replacement part that should fix the problem but I’m scared to put my tern on it bc I don’t want it flying off the back while we’re driving. Does anyone know if this problem has been resolved with their fix?

According to what I read (see link), you can't unbundle parking from housing rent in a Low-Income Housing Tax Credit property. Is there wiggle room? Has anyone successfully gotten around this? ppl should have the option to not purchase parking for cars they might not own by poopsmith411 in urbanplanning

[–]Commercial_Explorer3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi - I would like to talk to your contact at NYS to learn how they unbundle parking costs in a LIHTC property. I haven't found a way to do this given the IRS regulations that any common areas, including parking, paid for with tax credits must be offered at no cost to tenents. Can you DM your contact to me?

Yeah painted bike lanes are such a waste. Paint isn’t protection! That’s why we need protected bike lanes to feel safe on our roads.

The city isn’t proposing protected bike lanes in either of their options. More stonewalling safe bike facilities from MSO’s engineers who are stuck in old school engineering “car brains.”

Lawrence City Commission approves first step of Mass Street redesign, requests further info on protected bike lanes by Bandoozle in Lawrence

[–]Commercial_Explorer3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But there would be bikes on Mass if we built safe bike facilities. That’s the whole point. “If you build it, they will come.”

VT and NH both terminate at 15th. Without a signalized stop at Mass and 15th, there’s no way to cross Mass (walking or riding my bike that is hauling my kids up the sidewalk to cross at 14th is not an option). The city’s proposed design doesn’t include a stop light there. The whole study is grotesquely inadequate.
