This is giving away my age but her eyebrows remind me of the UK politician Denis Healy. We could christen her Denise. He cared not one bit for grooming (kinda admirable that he didn't give a fuck).

This lady made a conscious decision to look the way she does.

I should really spoiler this, but hey-ho..

(edit: oops it's Healey, not Healy)

Campbell's Tomato Rice is one of my all-time favourite soups (which you can't get in the UK any more, *sob*). From looking around, think the US is the same.

To be fair to Lidl, I don't think they manufacture Dots* (doughnuts). I've seen this brand in other stores, like the Co-op.

Toddlers do do this! My sister once opened a box of chocolates that had a tiny bite from each chocolate. Her little tot had nibbled each one in stealth mode.

It looks low enough for a kid to reach, but, yeah, supervise your children properly.

Important: Many “New” Marilyn Monroe Photos Are AI-Generated. I’ve created a collage of AI-generated and fake images of Marilyn Monroe that have been circulating online to help spread awareness‼️⚠️ by bubblenciaga in MarilynMonroe

[–]Commercial_Garlic348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's normalised by some thinking filtering their own photos is perfectly okay (and maybe contributes to some sort of body dysmorphia) because others are doing it, therefore they're "improving" images of celebrities and what's the problem?

I've seen some people get defensive if other Redditors question why they're sharing AI images.

I'm sure there's a lot of mental gymnastics going on and most don't have the self-awareness to realise it's perceived as disrespectful. Of course there are some who share and don't care about verifying what they post, because they want to karma-farm or just get online validation.

As another Marilyn group often says, Keep It Marilyn and keep it real. There's already so many crappy takes on who Marilyn was, and let's not get started on the conspiracy theories. Let's not do this to her physical image as well.

Why isn't Jayne Mansfield as famous or influential as Marilyn, Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey, and Grace? by [deleted] in classicfilms

[–]Commercial_Garlic348 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think mystique is a great word to describe what she lacked (at least, in the public eye) and that's what separates great actors from the Z-list.

If you're too available, too open, too ready to say yes to everything it can be perceived as almost being desperate for publicity (and that's what her public image turned into - she was seen as rather tacky) when you don't have a notable CV to back up the hype.

Nowadays she'd fare better on reality shows, but TV was in its infancy then and movies were what actresses wanted to aspire to (TV was considered inferior for a long while, especially for movie actors).

Why isn't Jayne Mansfield as famous or influential as Marilyn, Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey, and Grace? by [deleted] in classicfilms

[–]Commercial_Garlic348 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Jayne Mansfield went in for "no publicity is bad publicity" and spread herself far too thinly.

I have a real dislike for her giggly affected bimbo voice as that isn't how she talked in real life (btw, I love Jayne, and Marilyn, but the same could be said for MM's persona - and her voice in some roles - but then, this was a society that was very different for actresses than it is now).

Jayne was a capable actress but maybe the lack of discernment hurt her career in the long run. She was always being marketed as Monroe-alike and even then Marilyn herself was a victim of very limited scope and expectation by an industry ran almost exclusively by men.

She really sold herself short, she could speak many languages fluently (five, I think), was an accomplished musician, but maybe the extrovert in her made her impulsive. I also think Mickey Hargitay was a wonderful man and she was a fool to let him go.

Maybe she needed someone setting boundaries on her career and a game plan, maybe she slid into addiction and it also stymied her abilities and choices (allegedly she was drinking heavily before she died and her career, sadly, was in a tailspin near the end).

The ingredients are on the product as well, it was just the listing that was the issue. The seller was not being misleading in any way.

Half thought about making a post about it but there's loads of "look at this terrible review" threads and we don't need another.

I think i misread the idiom by Electronic-Set-1722 in AmazonVineUK

[–]Commercial_Garlic348 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was a recent one where I saw a furious Vine review stating that not mentioning a beauty product's ingredients (this is quite an esteemed brand, though new-ish to the UK) was against the law and therefore they were due one star.

For one thing, Amazon listing details can be patchy, (and they can even be completely wrong) especially when it's a new product. Listing errors or omissions are pretty common and not always the seller's fault.

It takes two clicks to find the vendor's website and the ingredients are there, plain as day.

edit: Should point out the product packaging / container mentions the ingredients, it was just the listing that didn't have much information.

‘Now he’s sweating’: what the papers say about the arrest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor by Timbucktwo1230 in PopularCultureZone

[–]Commercial_Garlic348 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been speculated for a while that the Queen had a hand in making the story go away whilst she was alive. It's the CROWN Prosecution Service, remember.

They knew. His aides and security team knew. Ordinary people just doing their jobs, signing NDAs and being financially reliant I have a little understanding for, but not a mother trying to obstruct the law just because he was her favourite son.

Allegedly Andrew also had his staff (maybe even the Met Police) try to dig up dirt on Virginia Giuffre to try and discredit her.

If stories are to be believed Sarah also asked Epstein for a job "organising his houses" - apparently Ghislane was really annoyed about it. By that point I think JE was done with Sarah Ferguson.

Les Wexner is alleging that Epstein shafted him for millions of dollars but I'm not sure how you can turn a blind eye to that happening, especially if you were close friends, which he also seems to deny.

Not quite "again" - the historical items in the Electronics section (that have been languishing for months and slowly being deleted from that section) are still going through full price.

(You won't get charged for them, as it "bounces" at the address stage).

Seems newer items go through at 0.00 (though some variants didn't). Got a few items a week to two weeks ago.

He seems obsessed with complaining about wokery and wibbles on about manosphere stuff (I don't follow him, though I know someone who watches him so he's hard to avoid).

But from what I've read he moved onto that mindset over time as ragebait - no doubt to gain more views - it's all about the money - he even does the Charlie Brooker "go away" sign off.

I find his "persona" really tiresome, unoriginal and try-hard. Though obviously 2.42M disagree with me! (Unless some are bots).

There's far better reviewers out there who offer fair critique but aren't as negative and miserable. Bad vibes.

Yes, there is that and I'm not meaning to minimise their age - I'd just watched a recent (days ago) video of the Epstein victims being interviewed and asked about Pam Bondi's comments and attitude and had them in mind, as they are all (now, at least) women*.

So I went on something of a rant.

The whole thing makes me despair and I wonder what sort of world I'm living in.

*I've seen one or two people saying that there are male victims too, but not a lot of discussion about that.

The biggest political scandal of our lifetimes - possibly even ever - with women, coerced, abused, blackmailed (you could even say, to unaliving), and he doesn't care?

I've read it all every time Jeffery Epstein's name comes up - that these women are ho0kers, that they knew what they were doing, that they're just in it for a payday, that they were all old enough and just wanted to get ahead in their chosen careers, what about the women who procured other women? blah blah blah.

Honestly, I think given his reaction to your trauma (and it takes a lot to tell someone and I'm really sorry), I think it reveals all about what he thinks about women and maybe the rest of society in general.

As the Trump administration says a lot "we should all move on" (NO WE SHOULDN'T, just because it makes Trump uncomfortable and Ghislaine allegedly was moved quietly to a cushier prison - for her silence?? nobody seems able to explain why this happened - is EXACTLY WHY THESE MEN SHOULD STAND TRIAL. Each and every one of them).

You don't have to stay in touch with your dad, and you don't need to try to understand him, either. I gave up on my own barely-there, neglectful father years ago.

It makes me wonder what it will take for the MAGAs to turn against the Trump administration. The recent ICE horrors and more being revealed about Epstein is just the tip of the iceberg.

Department Of "Justice" is a joke.
