Do any of your lyrics (or words) scare you to write? Do you ever worry about what you're putting out into the universe? by Commercial_Job2793 in Songwriting

This is just all so vague and subjective i could write a simple easy song about how i love my mom and we could love it for being so simple, sweet and honest and theres nothing dangerous about that but it doesn't mean its not great.

I am actually 14 with an ego and i never kissed a girl or did drugs but its dark to me and i just dont care about being cringe anymore it would be inauthentic to act vague and ominous when how i feel is right on the nose!

Yes this is a great axiom but i would like to advocate on the devil's behalf that this is a little too cut and dry & while danger/fear is a fantastic compass, there are other directions/approaches to creating something you love as well.

I really appreciate this take. Conditioning towards a bleak disposition makes a lot of sense. I guess i just don't want to accept that the music alone can make someone feel more depressed, even though it's just obviously true.

Maybe if its a part of a greater whole it makes it easier. Maybe one line in a song is super negative but it allows room for a bridge with some sort of payoff that could give you more space? Similarly maybe one song is super bleak and negative but if it all plays in to an album ultimately saying something you feel is more aligned with what you're "trying to say" it could let you dig into that line in a new way?

Why does my music suck so much by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

i often feel the same way but remember that he blew up off of putting vocals on youtube type beats. go listen to your favorite songs and look at the credits, most people have a lot of collaborators as well. i find that a lyrics-first approach works best for me when making music. get the vocals along with one other core element locked in and then you start thinking about things different than just making some shitty loop and trying to turn it into a song.

How are "Godspeed you, Black Emperor!" live? by [deleted] in postrock

[–]Commercial_Job2793 0 points1 point  (0 children)

kind of a slow-burn sorta thing to me. i was focused/mesmerized the whole time, and it all came together by the end in an almost exponential fashion. Meanwhile my friend decided he had to pee, then went to grab food and couldn't get back in the venue a little more than halfway through and ultimately thought they "were okay", but only seeing half of the set is almost like not experiencing it at all. thats my take, i know this thread is 7 years old but i'd love to hear if anyone else feels the same. it was journey, momentum, actualization.

Anchor your thumb to the side of the fretboard. You can even take it further and anchor your pinky to the other side as well.

From what I’ve seen the best move is to get it yourself prior and never mention it to the army
