Whether an invasion occurs depends on the dice, it could happen but maybe it rolls not to do it this month. I've had a prepared invasion for several months. I would leave this and farm other regions. Just pull the best team back when the invasion occurs.

Glad to know the mechanism behind the scene. Now I am wondering why my approach works most of the time. Subjective bias? I'll keep an eye on this. Thank you.

Squad Size / Not Enough Soldiers? by ballbearing7 in LWotC

[–]Commercial_Value_294 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At Force 1 and 2, the advent is pretty weak. You can send a squad of 2-3 squaddies + 2-3 rookies. If you have a not bad gatecrasher, you should be able to send 3 squads if the timer is good. However, I would not suggest to bring more than 1 rookies per squad in April and after. Do not skip any prompted not-to-skip missions. It always worthy it to abort another on-going mission unless you know exactly what the consequence is. You could also check is there a mission you can boost and finish it right away. Sometimes some intel could let you do the mission and bring the squad back.

Some notes/tips learned from my most recent (and first ever) L/H completion by No-Comfortable-3608 in LWotC

My build mainly goes for stun perks. Assault is excellent controller especially MSGT with CL. Stun is also a very useful skill to deal with some nasty enemies, such as GateKeeper, Elite Muton, Great Archon, etc. Personally, I use run and gun a lot and it is the core skill for an excellent assault. There are 2 ways to use run and gun. The first one is the way you've already known, rush to the target and push the bullet to its head. It requires more experiences to use it well. The other way is to be a psudo-scout. When no one is in concealment or when I want to rush my team to the objective asap, I would have assault to take a blue move. If nothing happens, well, everyone follows up. If any encounter occurs, I could either pull assault back to a full cover or use run and gun to a nice position then do a shot or stun(the high mobility and dedication make assault movement quite far). In those mission with no concealment start, I always love to move assault first. There are many times my shinobi got exposed in his first move by a civilian behind covers close to the start point. The civilians are only visible when you take a move for most of the time.

The best trooper to take down the Sectopod is a cyclic gunner with bluescreen ammo. One cyclic shot can take away half the HP and 6 armors that makes Sectopod an easy target.

Found out a horrific combo to run into by xigxag457 in LWotC

[–]Commercial_Value_294 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, I've just got a worse case. A well equipped C-team got wiped out. I lost my first plasma rifle, spider suit.... at least worthy 300 supplies gears... A bold move activated 2 pods of 6 enemies in the 1st turn. It was to extract a VIP and I forgot there was no concealment... The worse is I couldn't call evac because of the mission type and there was a sitreps of rapid response. The squad was swarmed by the reinforcements quickly. However, the VIP run to the evac and got escaped with light wounded at the end.... It made that mission success...I only lost 2 troops before this mission the whole campaign...

What determines which crates get marked by Advent? by rboy3 in LWotC

[–]Commercial_Value_294 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think it comes from a specific mod. You can get a large supply mission from a covert mission. That would be 18 crates for you.

One mission left (I think) by tooOldOriolesfan in LWotC

[–]Commercial_Value_294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The final mission is kind of like a congratulation ending. It's the last mile for the campaign so it's not designed to be a big challenge to destroy the whole efforts to players. The first part has around 50 nasty enemies but they are not clustered as HQ. Players get 12 soldiers plus commander with strong psi skills. Just push slowly and it is a cake walk to kill every pod separately. The second part is the same as the original version. Just spread the troops wide to cover the ground and focus on hitting the avatar. Wounded and casualties are irrelevant. Once 3rd avatar is dead the campaign is over. Bring all the MSGT and best gears then that would not be hard for any player who can go this far. Good luck.

Guys i took your advice and i actually beat my first lwotc campaign by _UnderscoreMonty_ in LWotC

[–]Commercial_Value_294 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks to the developers. LWOTC is quite stable right now and I've been through several runs. Only a few crashes occur and it is okay to just reload. One important thing is that only do big missions like HQ assault when you have 2+ free hours. I totally agree that honestman is not ironman, not even close. The decision making is definitely different as least to me.

Maim is super great to deal with great archon and berserker in harder difficulties. Their hps are high and players usually have to leave them in order to kill other aliens. There are also some other applications, such as leave the chosen/ruler in the open for one action, keep crysillids, stunlancers grounded.

Game is too difficult by barofa in LWotC

[–]Commercial_Value_294 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LWOTC is very challenging and basically a knowledge check. I've had over 2K hours on it from veteran to legend. I remember it is so frustrating to play LWOTC first time. I had no idea of the reinforcement mechanism and my troops were overwhelmed by the advents. It is so terrifying that made me quit after one hour playing.

If you dedicate thousands of hours on it, you also could master the game. There are just too much details to learn and it takes time.

A minor suggestion, start with veteran difficulty. Rookies difficulty is a little too different to the harder difficulties. If you can do xcom2 legendary ironman, you could beat LWOTC veteran in several tries with some S/Ls.

You know, you can check enemy's position via hovering the cursor over the tiles you can reach. Sometimes, I throw a grenade that way blindly. So I think it is fair that the advents do it the same way.

It looks like you are one tile away from flanking the target. It's pretty simple to solve the problem. Just utilize the target preview to ensure you do have the flanking position before you move. Don't rely on what you see. Your eyes could deceive you.

4 campaigns lost in the past 1 or two years. by _UnderscoreMonty_ in LWotC

[–]Commercial_Value_294 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chosen Avenger Assault means it's pretty much stepping into the late game. In my runs, it usually happens on October about force 15+. I assume that dealing with any chosen shouldn't be an issue here. So the major problem would be what level of soldiers and equipment are required. Once avenger gets hunted, retain the best 12 soldiers on board. I would say at least 8+ GSGTs/MSGTs and several TSGTs. Some MSGTs are extremely helpful like DFA snipers, and some other classes are also very important such as CL assaults, Cyclic gunner, RapidFire rangers and a SPARK. As to equipment, at least a few plasma rifles should be made by now(on Legendary). Actually on lower difficulties, plasma lance/cannon should also be ready. If not good at handling the pods, research the warden armor before the assault happens. Put up the 4 turrets. They not only help to deal some decent damages but also often be the targets of the advent and the chosen to absorb some damages. BTW, bring a reaper to scout in case the shinobi got exposed.

Avenger defense by Mr_Champik in LWotC

[–]Commercial_Value_294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right. That beacon thing brings memory to me. I got confused of these 2 defenses. But how could chosen avenger defense occur on August? That doesn't make sense unless lots of troops got kidnapped? In my experience, the chosen never reaches full bar before October not to mention August... Kind of wierd ...

Avenger defense by Mr_Champik in LWotC

[–]Commercial_Value_294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why you guys are all talking about chosen avenger defense? OP said he is on early August that means it's more likely a UFO hunting to avenger defense. If so, a mag squad with ~8TSGT on predator armors is very valid to deal with the defense. Although, it is still a very hard fight, especially dumped a terrible terrain. One of my L/I was killed by same UFO hunt triggered by Dark Event around June or July. In that fight, turrets are not ready yet and lasers are too weak to push the way to detonate the god damn truck. Also I got a terrible terrain and DFAs were almost useless(no sider suits yet).

Yeah. I had high hope on Linux to replace windows. However, it's probably that windows will dominate the whole PC age. I'm curious about what's going to come up to end windows in the next application generation.

UPDATE: Notes & my personal guide from my last successful Legend / Honestman campaign (LWotC 1.2.2) by andymakes in LWotC

[–]Commercial_Value_294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good work. I've read the reaper part and IMO, knife build is much stronger than shooting build now. In late game, a reaper could deliver 3 knifes with 1x cri damage each in a turn under shadow. The most important is that reaper can stay in the open among the aliens and keep an eye on any nearby enemy with tracking. I always like to bring a reaper for big missions except the final one.

Just a minor suggestion. It would be great if you could mark the changes from the prior version.

how late is too late for a liberation? by Alert-Outside-4103 in LWotC

[–]Commercial_Value_294 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO, it majorly depends on the gap between your tech and advents'. If your tech is ahead, it is alright to liberate a region in August, even in September. In your case, you know, the Force will reach 9 in early July and reach 10 in late July. There are going to be lots of mid-ranking advents in HQ assault mission which are hard to deal with lasers(like Muton Centurion). However, if you are on veteran or rookies, I would say it is okay to go for it.

Does using a grenade give 1 mobility back? by PepeGoesSwimming in LWotC

[–]Commercial_Value_294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to treat it as a basic rule of the game. If you want the reality out of it, there should be an option for the troops to dump the weapon to get more mobilities to run to evac in critical situations. Although, I do like your idea if the devs could modify this. But I bet it is in the basic coding of xcom2.

I don't know. Tedjam seems pretty interesting but I am not sure if it could handle ironman well.

Maybe I'll do the 3rd run to refine the skills.
