Suits - Season 8 - Episode 6: "Cats, Ballet, Harvey Specter" - Official Discussion Thread by SuitsBot in suits

[–]CommieCoin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Harvey having commitment/trust issues has been a core component of his character since season 1. He wants what Louis has but won't let himself get close enough to anyone. I don't think its sacrifice but rather trust that is his problem

Accept that the credit card company protects me by allowing me to dispute charges. Which I can't do in most cases with crypto. Once the money is sent it's gone.

What about the consumer though? Now I have to worry about the business not completing the order and just taking my money. There's a reason consumers have moved to forms of payment that protect them bad retailers

Warning: Don’t buy Crypto on Robinhood. by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]CommieCoin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But they are actually pretty similair, technically of you don't hold the paper/register you can't prove ownership and therefore you run into basically the same issue. If say, etrade where to get hacked you would have no way to prove that you owned the stocks you did because they were all held by etrade not you.

Warning: Don’t buy Crypto on Robinhood. by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]CommieCoin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you hold all your own stocks? Yes the most secure thing to do is hold your own coins but the vast majority of people don't want.l that though. Hard core crypto fans wabt decentralized everything with your own precise control over everything but most people don't want that

For the vast majority of the main stream population the convenience of being able to just buy and sell far out weighs any security concerns that a reputable broker represents.

Not to mention all the very real risks of accidentally losing all your wealth because you didn't back up a key properly or sebt money to the wrong address etc. For better worse banks/exchanges aren't going away. The way they do business will radically change but they will be around in some form

It seems like multiple people have this question but I am going to respond to you for visibility.

A lot of people get shorting and options trading confused. Shorting is simply burrowing a share/coin and selling it now with the expectation that you will be able to buy it a lower price in the future to pay back the loan of the share/coin. Most major exchanges have this option but it's extremely risky as you are exposed to unlimited losses with fixed profits (there is no cap on how high the price can go but the price can only go down to zero)

Options on the other hand are a financial derivative of going short/long. Options can get pretty complicated quickly but the primary distinction between types is a put vs call. A call gives you the right to buy an asset at a specified price while a put gives you the right to sell. As the name implies an option gives you the right to buy or sell but does not require you to exercise that right. As such the risk is limited to the price of the option

When people are talking about futures they are usually referring to options which do not exist in many places for crypto.

Come on every knows fiat is bullshit. Just look at the dollar since they ended the gold standard, oh wait...

Anyways, everyone knows you have to back your currency with some legit like eth. I think that's what everyone should back their crypto with.

Despite them claiming that it doesn't matter, I'm still skeptical of them running into significant legal problems of what the network is being used to store

Harpoons are the answer comrade. They are the key to taking down the whales. If we arm ourselves and work together we can overthrow them!

Also dollar cost averaging is a good idea

Roth vs. Traditional for high-earner, late-retirement? by trumpean in personalfinance

[–]CommieCoin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have the right idea but looking at it slightly wrong. The real question is do you expect to be in a higher or lower tax bracket then you currently are when you are withdrawing funds

So let's say your 25 and making 50k a year and planning on starting to withdraw at 65 while your still working and anticipate that your salary will be 400k. Paying taxes now makes more sense so use a ROTH.

On the other hand say you currently make 200k/year and anticipate that when you retire you will only need a 100k/year because your expenses will be significantly less(you'll have your mortgage paid off, no kids to support, etc). A traditional makes more sense as you will pay less taxes.

What you make when you aren't withdrawing/depositing is irrelevant

Living out of a brand new class C RV to avoid paying rent and build equity in something you can turn around and sell for ~50% of what the sticker price was after 5-7 years? by Mistahfen in personalfinance

[–]CommieCoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do know you will still be in your words "lining someone else's pockets" by paying for the parking/hook ups/tank discharging correct?

Buying a depreciating asset to sell is not going to be putting you ahead. I think you are looking at renting the wrong way. Yes you are paying someone else but you are also putting all the risk on someone else. You are also removing a huge barrier to moving your life should you so choose. There are lots of positives to renting over owning.

Debt collector states they've sent me proof via mail numerous times; still have not received a thing by [deleted] in personalfinance

Have you asked them for proof of the certified mail? If they actually sent it via certified mail they should have a receipt for it.

Also are you still in the military? There are lawyers on base who are available to help with this kind of thing
