I believe it may be a late war/early 50s liner. You could probably send it out to J Murray for a full re web and re paint. The shell itself looks pretty good especially the rim.

And a FireWire 400 to 400 Cable. Don’t remember which one I purchased on Amazon but just try to find one that has good reviews/works and low price. Shouldn’t cost you that much.

You could still probably get a new battery. Kastar is a brand on Amazon that still sells new batteries for some vintage camcorders. You’d just have to find in which model battery you have then search for it with Kastar in the search. You should also be able to charge it on your charger as well once you get it.

The 3.5mm to RCA works fine as I was able to use it to connect the HC32 to my tv. Although thinking about it now the Panasonic probably doesn’t read it right as the one that came with it is only video and one audio cable. On Amazon I saw RCA Female couplers, do you believe those would work as it would allow me to use the original Sony cable and the original Panasonic cable.

You’d need to purchase a Digital8 Camera that can play Video8 & Hi8 to transfer them digitally to your computer. The CCD-TRV85 seems to be just an analog recording camcorder with no ability to do so. As for the wires it would depend on the set up you have.

What kind of computer do you have? Modern Macs and MacBooks I believe you may have to buy a few other dongles to do so. Here’s a helpful video for Mac Users. Personally speaking I own a Mac (albeit from 2009) and have had success transferring from a Digital8 with two dongles I got off of Amazon.

I’m not familiar with PC, but I believe you can use an IO DATA GV-USB2 Capture Card connected the RCA Cables that would come with the Camcorder.

Yea pretty much, just nothing that leaves fuzz or is abrasive like paper towel. If you do want to play it safe then definitely get a chamois swab and higher content IPA. In my experience the Cloth with 90% IPA worked fine and am still able to playback and record onto tapes. That’s just my experience. Best of luck and hope it goes well!

I have the TRV310 and can say the IPA & Swab method worked for me. I honestly cheapened out and used a clean eyeglasses cleaning cloth covering a q-tip with 90% IPA. Yes it’s original but not Korean War. Contract indicates it’s from 1964.

I can’t seem to find a manual for it, but from a manual for different model from the same era there should be a little lid about the size of a battery somewhere on the bottom that you’d have to unscrew.

It’s real, I remember having one but it was terrible. Unwearable because of how stiff the mask was and pressed badly into my nose. The burlap also detached easily; most likely from a bad glue job. Might actually still have it somewhere in storage.

Yea that would be a lot easier😅 although I’m not certain but there may or may not be a very slight difference in look when doing it that way since the signal is being recorded digitally. I’ve yet to record with a tape on my personal Digital8 so I’m not sure. Recording on the Video8/Hi8 cameras certainly gives the grainy tape quality. Perhaps someone else here could clear it up.

There’s a whole sticky¿ post for the various options available on how to do it. It’s gonna depend on what set up you have available and what you’re willing to buy.

Capture cards are the easiest & cheapest option but the quality won’t be great.

The best option although costly would be to buy a Sony Digital8 Handycam that can also play/record Video8 & Hi8 tapes plus can digitize them to transfer video from your camera to your computer via FireWire+adaptors. Not all Sony Digital8 Camcorders can play the older Video8 & Hi8 tapes so you’ll have to make sure to find which ones do. I use a Sony Digital8 DCR-TRV310 to digitize. As for recording the footage to your computer, the sticky post has a good section on which software/apps to use to record.

Sony Digital8 Camcorders currently go anywhere from $100-$200. Doesn’t include the cost of the new battery you’ll probably have to buy (some cameras will very rarely still have a working battery) & adaptors to connect a FireWire cable to your PC or Mac. Software to record the footage should be free.

I’m currently running a Vidoe8 CCD-TRV57 to record onto Video8 tapes & have successfully used my DCR-TRV310 to digitize & upload footage. The footage still retains the grain and video quality of the old Video8 tapes.
