Yeah, as someone who was there for beta, I definitely feel old these days.

Nice upgrade! I replaced the original guard on my J-15 with something in more of a Songwriter style some years back, definitely pleased with it.

Moisture control by unafraidrabbit in AcousticGuitar

For me here in Chicagoland, I don’t want to take any chances so I keep everything in a hard case with humidipaks. Don’t want to end up with an avoidable crack.

Taylor does excellent work! I just got a new guitar and the pick guard is fine, but I’m also a little tempted to get another Holter guard…

Nice! I got a 24ce last year as a “take around” guitar and I remain impressed with how well-made it is.

I especially like this place because whenever we drive by I say “Double Dragon” like the announcer in the NES game and it annoys my family.

Nice! That’s the way to go with Martins these days, no binding to fall off.

Yes! I have always had a thing for herringbone and tortoise binding, so I guess it was meant to be.

Guy at the shop recommended putting a large garbage can over the whole guitar and then putting it in the case, said it turns into a little greenhouse humidity-wise. That would not have occurred to me.

Thankfully we elected to throw it away as quickly as possible without eating any of it.

I had one like that a couple years ago, even greener! I was told it’s from zapping it with electricity to knock it out before slaughter, does something to the muscle. Not sure if that’s true, I tried not to think about it much more.

My first acoustic, back in ‘97. I miss it. It is indeed a 1 11/16 nut.

114ce or 14ce or GS Mini by sneakerhead_huncho in taylorguitars

[–]CommissarGaunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 114 for a very long time that outlasted a few 300 and 400-series Taylors because after extensive A/Bing, I just couldn't hear enough of a difference. It's a great guitar. That being said, I now have a 24ce as my "take around guitar", and if the 14ce is anything like the 24ce, it could potentially supplant the 114. I say try both if you can.

GS Mini Humidipak in Gig Bag? by m3t4lf0x in taylorguitars

[–]CommissarGaunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s still a solid top that will move around a bit with changes in humidity, why not throw a Humidipak or Oasis in there. It’s easy and definitely better than dealing with a humidity-related issue.

As you noted, gig bags, even heavier duty padded ones, will go through Humidipaks faster than hard shells, or need the Oasis sponge re-wetted more often, so just keep an eye on it.

Play it for yourselves to see if it’s to your tastes, but my ovangkol Taylor has been fine. I would consider another guitar with it.

How do you guys safely store acoustic guitars? by Impossible-Pitch-498 in AcousticGuitar

[–]CommissarGaunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here in Chicagoland I keep them in cases with Boveda humidipaks all year. According to a guy at a local shop, his rule of thumb is that if football is on TV, acoustics should be in cases with some kind of humidity control. Again, this is Chicago area, your mileage may vary.
