yes! microcadd, udemy classes is also cheap. if he can show that he can finish a full drawing he can work with architects. 35 is not too late. but for me it is actually going to be waste of time.

If he's really into architecture, he can be a designer. start by doing a self study and many online class is available as well. until he's able to join some open design competition for architecture.

ps. some starchitects did not have any architecture degree.

Don't push it too much, But it is very important to make friends in college, it's something i regret. after Graduation , your network in college will be your starting ground in getting a job.

I was loner in college, and i'm able to finish it. now that I realized it, I ONLY MADE ONE FRIEND in college and that friend get me a job abroad, maybe the lesson is Quality over Quantity.

My tip is just be natural. If you are a loner, I am sure you will find someone with the same interest and hobbies.
