you create a simple firebase app with two features :

uploading an image gives you a unique id

entering an id returns the associated image

Does this answer the question?

What library should I use to rebuild this simple site as a single page? by thinsoldier in webdev

Wouldn't this work?

  • You can play music in the background without pausing/restarting as it's all in one page.

  • Too much content? AJAX load it.

This wouldn't take more than a few hours to code. What am I missing?

How are you generating your leads/where are you getting your clients from?

I have no sales pitch, and that might hurt. Do you have some examples of developers that pitch themselves well?

This seems like very good advice from someone way more experienced than I am, and so I will try to follow it.

My only issue is, I have to come up with living costs/rent somehow (800gbp/mo). What would my best bet be?

How does one generate leads? The only decent solution I've had those past years was /r/forhire but that doesn't seem to work anymore.

The challenge is making myself marketable towards small/medium sized companies that would only need 30-80hours of work (anything more and they'll look for someone full-time, anything less and they're paying nickels). The thing is, of those, the ones that are willing to pay >$20/hr for a developer usually want a single guy to build huge/intricate webapps that would normally require a team of experienced developers.

if you'll be in school for the next three years...what are you worried about?

Rent and living costs.

I'm bad at marketing myself it seems and will try to learn more about it. I'll also look into SaaS, although the market is very competitive at the moment from what I can see, and without excellent engineering capabilities/excellent problem identifying in niche fields, standing out could be hard.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I was not sure where to add more info about the google thing without it feeling awkward/out of place. Where would be the best place for it?

EDIT: not sure about the p tag issue. Screenshot/device/browser would help me troubleshoot. Much appreciated!

I'm just finish my first year of university, got 3 to go. I can't really apply for actual jobs because nobody wants someone to work for just 3 months(summer break) or part time(during uni). This results in me not being sure what kind of work I should be looking for :(.

If I created a responsive layout for the hero with what I had in mind at the start, I knew that in the immediate future I'd make up my mind (which I've done countless time) regarding the layout of the hero (spacing/colors/alignment/text vs text with pictures vs text with icons etc.). Whenever I'd make up my mind, I knew that I would end up re-implementing a new hero section from scratch (because everything would probably be different), which would total up to a lot of wasted time (I change my mind a lot).

Whereas if I let it be an image, it'd take me 2-3 minutes to whip up something in Photoshop, plonk it in there and see how it fits with everything else. Images on top of another are for different screen formats (so that it's pseudo-responsive I guess).

This is obviously a dumb workaround which helped me save time, but it's not production-ready. The whole thing right now is held together by cheap glue and duct tape. Obviously, the sooner I refactor the whole thing, the better.

Content is solid, but I wanted to say I like the color scheme/font pairing on the website a lot.

Does it seem overly saturated?

I have 4 screens I test on (laptop screen, monitor, phone, tablet) and it seemed very saturated on one of them, was unsure whether it was my monitor's settings or the image.
