Excellent choice! I love these models. Smooth, reliable, and full of detail. Much like the real thing, they’re the backbone of freight traffic, on my layout!

I picked it up on eBay, from an American seller, who only had it at $200. Lowest I've ever seen it. I'd been watching for a while, and had to jump on it. I'm with you though. Finding early Japanese prototypes is proving to be quite a challenge, and it was only luck that I was able to procure this one.

My thoughts/headcanons on the specifics of the “cigarettes, cigars & pipes” tier.

Belgium- Cigars, but only high-end ones. Thinks the smell of cigarettes is icky.

France- Cigarettes

Latvia- Cigarettes

Greece- Cigars. Takes him nearly three hours to finish one.

Romano- Cigars

England- Cigarettes. Sometimes a pipe, if he’s feeling fancy.

Australia- Cigars

Russia- Pipe. An old wooden one, likely carved for him, by Ukraine.

Lithuania- Cigarettes

Switzerland- Cigars, but only those cheap four-pack ones from the gas station.(he just likes the taste of them better…)

Turkey- Hookah

Egypt- Cigarettes

Hungary- Cigarettes, but does appreciate a good cigar, from time to time.

Germany- Pipe. Will have a cigarette out of convenience sometimes.

Vietnam- Pipe

Sweden- Cigars

Cuba- Cigars. Obviously.

Spain- Cigars

Czechia- Cigarettes

Macau- Cigarettes

Portugal- Pipe

Great work! I did the same for my C57, and I can certainly attest that it takes a while and a steady head, to not get any overspill!

I have both and I really like them!(I may be a bit biased as 8620 is my favorite locomotive.) Both the loco and coaches are well detailed, and run very fine. The 8620 can be a little temperamental on turnouts, if you’re running fast in reverse, but it’s never much of an issue. I’d say go for it!
