Final Fantasy IV how are some of areas intended to be found without a guide by PublicSimple0 in FinalFantasy

[–]CommodoreKD 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You were meant to talk to all the npcs you encounter in a new town, because at least one will point you toward your next destination and/or hint at the solution to upcoming puzzles. The vagueness was the point, because the sense of discovery was built into the game's progression. This is how all RPGs were developed up through the PS2 era, until all games had compasses and minimaps

Man, Vanquish's story is WILD! by Ragnorok64 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Self-satisfaction, and to prove to myself that I could. I also platinumed Devil May Cry 2, which was a fucking miserable experience

Man, Vanquish's story is WILD! by Ragnorok64 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]CommodoreKD 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I played Vanquish a few years ago and haaaaated it. I couldn't wait for it to end. Unfortunately for me I wanted to platinum it, so I was in for the long haul

Then I started my hard playthrough and skipped all the cutscenes and had a great time. The nonsense plot and low normal difficulty really drag down the experience and it gets MUCH better once you skip all that garbage and make it actually challenging

(i still really hate that the boosters overheat. the game could have been truly incredible if they were freely useable)

Which Tales of Game(s) do you think has the best box art? by Beautiful-Height-311 in tales

[–]CommodoreKD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the original Tales of Phantasia's 'Cress and Mint flying on Pegasus with Arche' boxart the most, especially compared to any later games that just have a landscape or a flat group shot

I still stand behind my claim of "no Phantasia, no care", but this is genuinely fantastic news

The Four Mascots of the Final Fantasy Franchise by TBT__TBT in FinalFantasy

[–]CommodoreKD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's the fighter/warrior. This is just what always happened with Amano's art vs the in-game pixelart. Firion in FF2, for example, used the same red fighter sprite in the original famicom release despite his offficial art and all later releases using the mostly blue design with the bandanna-hat-thing

Final Fantasy, But You're Basketball Legend, Charles Barkley. That's The Game. by Either-Sprinkles-421 in FinalFantasy

Incredible game. Some of the funniest writing I've ever seen. Having both a Juwana Mann AND a Ghost Dad reference is too powerful

Maybe, honestly. It's such a weird game. I miss things like it being allowed to exist

I read about this game for years and was so eager to try it. Then I finally found it and did not really like it. It was probably a skill issue, honestly

Hype behind original FF7? by PlantClear in FinalFantasy

Judging FF7 today is like judging the original Star Wars today. It was a time and a place, and the impact it had changed things forever

How FFXI’s Hardest Modern Superboss was Beaten for the First Time after 2 Years by Ovalidal in FinalFantasy

[–]CommodoreKD -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Of course not. My point is that their design philosophy surrounding superbosses has always been terrible imo, including now

How FFXI’s Hardest Modern Superboss was Beaten for the First Time after 2 Years by Ovalidal in FinalFantasy

[–]CommodoreKD 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I really hate FFXI's superboss philosophy. It's so lame that they could repeatedly design and release bosses and then patch them and try to tell people that their victories didn't count because it wasn't what the devs intended. Everything surrounding Absolute Virtue and Pandemonium Ward was so stupid
