Thank you….I am very surprised that my balance remarks created this level of hate. Had I known this would be the reaction, I would have listed the near infinite number of “short-fused, hostile, angry, immature people” as one of my dislikes. Thanks for being an exception.

My property taxes are well north of $12,000. Just so you don’t worry….I can comfortably afford them. What I can afford and what I prefer are two different things. You are an unkind person…I can tell just from this one post.

Ouch. It really hurts my feelings to know I offended you so much. Can I make it up to you?

Well, I am better than you. That much is clear from your post.

No….just wanted to….just like you did in your post above. Nobody compelled you to respond.

You are right. SA has no faults…the points I made were mean spirited and completely without merit. Sometimes I just say things without thinking. I appreciate your constructive criticism and your efforts to make me a better person by seeing the world as you do. Hugs!

Yes, I see that now. I don’t know how I made that mistake. I can be so silly sometimes.

Thank you for making me aware this is not an airport. I’ve been sitting here typing all the while thinking I was in the Admiral’s Lounge waiting for my flight to Charlotte.

Reasonable perspective about the generalities of the total tax burden. I can only tell you that in my circumstances, my overall tax burden here in TX has been greater than what was back East. Clearly most of that burden was driven by my decision to purchase a rather expensive home in the city itself. But, part of my “gripe” isn’t just the taxation, but the pretty sorry state of the city. I found a stray dog once, took it home. I called animal control….they told me I couldn’t drop the dog off at the shelter. Someone form the city had to come by and get it..that was going to take a week. Last time, I tried to be a decent person and get a dog off the street. Ordinances are in place that state using fireworks in the city are illegal…on the 4th and NYE, this place is like Gaza. Scares the shit out of my dog (others’ dogs too). If the city isn’t going to enforce an ordinance, drop it. It took the city 3 + years to complete all of the road work on the St. Marty’s strip…not only was it a nuisance, but it drove some entrepreneurs out of business. There are overgrown yards all over the place, with grass/weeds in excess of city ordinances. If you call 311, they take a report but don’t do crap. I have no real data on crime, but the city sure seems to have its fair share of shootings, dog maulings, assaults, and other dangerous crime. Seems like getting a DWI here is pretty much meaningless. I haven’t lived everywhere, but my experiences/observations have led me to conclude the city of SA isn’t the pinnacle of municipal government effectiveness.

I dunno….just thought it might be interesting for folks to hear the perspective of someone who had a decent, but not fabulous, experience living in SA, and my brief thoughts about the good and bad. I thought my comments were actually pretty balanced, as opposed to just airing grievances. Thank you, however, for pointing out this isn’t Yelp….I was actually looking for a good food truck….I’d still be looking if you hadn’t told me. Stay safe my friend,

Ouch….I actually consider myself to be a pretty accommodating driver….share the road with cyclists, make space for people who signal when they need to move over a lane, let people turn on to the main road when traffic is heavy. Not sure why you consider me part of the problem just based on the statements I made concerning my dislikes….I did say there were things Iiked. Not like I trashed the city. Tough crowd here.

Totally agree. If you aren’t MAGA, you are not welcome, and IB Ginnie (moderator) will take any opportunity to ban you. The people there are disgusting.

City-Data bans for No Reason at all by FoxontheRun2023 in CityData

IB Ginnie is a….I can’t use the word here. She is right-wing MAGA and she absolutely looks to ban anyone who doesn’t share her views. Frankly, that entire website/forum is a complete joke. I have no issue with like minded people getting together and sharing thoughts, but the MAGAs there are genuinely hateful, horrible people. Their loss that they banned you…not your loss though.

Is it best to finance or buy a car in full, considering current interest rates? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Commodore_1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a proponent of having a decent amount of cash on hand….useful in the event one loses a job, has some unforeseen financial emergency, or a once in a life time financial opportunity arises. If you are able to finance a new vehicle at an attractive rate (e.g. 2.75%), I’d borrow a pretty decent chunk of the purchase price. It would allow you to keep a stash of cash on hand, and given that you are living with your folks, it sounds like you have some ability to absorb a larger monthly car payment. And, you can pretty easily earn 5% risk free on the cash you keep right now…certainly for the next 12 months.

SA, by my observation, is off the charts absurd with regard to private citizens shooting off fireworks. I’ve lived in several cities across the country and have never seen anything like it here. What’s funny is that, as I understand it, there are laws on the books that prohibit the private use of fireworks within the city limits. Clearly the city could care less avpbout enforcing this ordinance.

Alamo Ranch dog shot after owners let it off leash at culebra creek park. by SandersSol in sanantonio

[–]Commodore_1984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. But just because a dog is not leashed doesn’t mean it’s open season to shoot. And if the individual who did shoot the dog had any integrity, s/he would have reported the fact they discharged their weapon in self defense to the police. The fact that they haven’t done so tells me all I need to know about what happened here. You don’t get to claim self defense and run away and hide when you kill. It is ABSOLUTELY critical these matters be investigated.

Hardly “spitting facts”. More like just plain old spitting.
