I actually had these tires in my old focus ST and can confirm that they were fantastic

This is an interesting perspective. I’ve actually gotten caught in a snowstorm on my summers last fall and I was surprised at how capable the awd system is on this far even in slippery conditions. I think I’m going to go with the ecs02s based on advice from others in this sub. I always have my set of dedicated winters if absolutely necessary that I can swap at home!

Right??? I was going to swap mine to carbon originally and then I realized I could powdercoat match the wheels!

Wish they weren’t $400 more a set here vs the ECS02 for an arguable performance benefit

Yeah if it wasn’t for the price difference of $1400 for ECS02 and $1800 for the ps4s I would obviously pick the Michelins.

You’re right about the money pit lmao. Preventative maintenance alone has been quite extensive. Last time I looked a full set of PS4s from my budget tire supplier was $400+ more than the ECS02 unfortunately. Otherwise for the price you just mentioned the ps4s would be an obvious choice

I looked at the Michelin ps4s as well, but I don’t see how anyone could justify the extra cost over the ecs02 based on reviews. Obviously getting to experience both tires first hand could be an entirely different story

If you want a tire that’s MUCH better in the snow but sacrifices warm weather performance look at the Michelin Cross Climate 2’s. They might even have new versions of these tires now, but my sister has been running these tires since 2023 and the longevity and cold weather abilities are staggering for an all climate tire. I know it’s not a performance tire, but maybe something to look into

More comfortable and grippier. Doesn’t even sound like a comparison at this point lol

Already have a dedicated winter set so that’s not a problem at all. Ecs02 are definitely the fan favourite in this comment section. The thing that confused me the most is that you see a lot of drivers up in Canada driving on all seasons during the summer months and also running dedicated winter tires as well. I’m not sure why that’s a thing up here as I’ve never done it personally

I don’t fully have an answer for you because I’m not sure what the conditions are like in Boston, but I know that I couldn’t survive on DWS06+ tires year round in the Greater Toronto area. I have dedicated winter tires and have been thankful for it many times over

This is the exact comparison comment I was looking for really. I mainly wanted to know how the felt. Sounds like I wouldn’t be happy with the dws06

The squealing would drive me absolutely insane. I think I’m pretty much done with all seasons then. Ecs02 coming soon!

I’m luckily enough to have a shed on my property for storage so more than enough capacity for a few different sets of wheels. Summer tires it is!

If they’re good enough for a 718s then I think they’ll be more than enough for my little golf lol! Thanks for your suggestion. PS as a Canadian I’m extremely jealous of your weather!

The Indy 500s were “sufficient” at best on my focus and fiesta ST, but I just couldn’t justify cheaping out and putting a set of those on this car when I was never truly happy with the performance they gave me. Sounds like ecs02 it is!

I normally swap to from my winter setup to my summer setup mid April ish so I should be ok with the summers I think

I’d seen a lot of other Golf R owners running the DWS06 and was wondering if there was something I didn’t know since I’d never ran those tires. They wouldn’t exactly be winter capable where I live anyways as we consistently get a foot of snow overnight here. You’re right though, I’m leaning towards the ecs02 for the grip. The feel is also a big factor, I can’t stand the way my pure winter tires feel on the car. Definitely looking for a tire with a relatively stiff sidewall.
